Chereads / The Unexpected Love Story / Chapter 25 - I'm Fine

Chapter 25 - I'm Fine

Lance's POV:

Where is Sophia? I just went to the school canteen to buy some foods but when I arrived here at the classroom, Sophia's already gone. Not only her, but also her friends Elaine and Janna. Even Prince is not here.

It'll be time for the next subject soon and they're still not here.

"Psstt, Shakira!" I tried to catch the attention of Shakira who's currently talking to her friends.

Shakira is looking sidewards repeatedly and trying to look for the person that just called her name.

"Right here!" I said loudly.

She finally noticed me!

"What is it, Lance?"

"Where's Sophia? The time for recess will end soon and Ma'am Padua will be coming!"

"Sophia? Oh, I think she's in the infirmary right now. Prince brought her there earlier."

"What?! Infirmary?! What happened? Is she feeling unwell?" I asked worriedly.

"Geez, calm down! It's just that something happened earlier, and with all that chaos, she hurt herself accidentally." She said with disdain in her eyes.

Why does she look angry? Did I say anything wrong?

"What? What do you mean, chaos?"

"Tch. It's-" Shakira was halted by Ma'am Padua's sudden arrival.

"Good morning class! So where are the other students? I see that Miss Atkinson, Miss Lancashire and even the class president and the vice president, Miss Bailey and Mister Owen are not yet here. What happened to them? Are they skipping class now?"

'That's what I wanted to know Ma'am!' is what I wanted to say but, of course that's impossible.

"This is already the last subject since we have a half-day schedule today and yet they weren't able to endure just a few minutes of class? Well, I'll mark them absent for now." She just took the attendance paper out of her folder when the door slides open.

It's Sophia and the others!

Shakira's POV:

Lance is really stupid! He's worrying about another girl when he's talking to me. Is he even aware about what I feel whenever he does that?

We're together most of the time since we're both part of the Student Council. I'm the secretary and he's the treasurer. I can notice that he's always looking for an opportunity to glance at someone, and that 'someone' is not me.

The girl that he likes I'm talking about is Sophia, the Student Council President and also one of the most famous girls in the campus. She almost has everything already so why is it that everything else is going her way?

Even Lance, the only boy that I ever liked is stanning her. I like Lance's hardworking personality. He never procrastinates his works and almost does everything perfectly. He's gentle and kind. He's also caring although he doesn't make it too obvious.

Sophia's also my friend, but it still hurts whenever I think that the boy I like has feelings towards her. But I don't have any grudge against her despite it since I know that it's not Sophia's fault that Lance feel for her. Although, it doesn't mean that I'll let Lance be with her in the end. She still doesn't realize that Lance treats her more than a friend nor Lance intends to let her know about it. So it's still too early for me to give up. I should do my best to make Lance look my way.

Janna's POV:

After we opened the door, all of the attentions are directed to us. As I've just said, Ma'am Padua is really here already.

"What happened to Ms. Bailey's arm? Why is it wrapped with bandages?"

"Ma'am, Sophia got her hand sprained but you have nothing to worry about since it will completely heal by next week." Prince explained.

"I see... But why did she got injured?"

"It's because John-" Prince didn't finish his sentence when Sophia interrupted him from talking.

"I just tripped earlier because I wasn't looking at where I am going. It's due to my own carelessness, Ma'am."

"Is that so? You need to be careful next time to avoid such accidents to happen, alright?"

"Yes Ma'am, I'll remember that. Thank you for worrying."

"Prince, please assist Ms. Bailey for the meantime as the vice president of the class as well as her seatmate."

"Roger, Ma'am!"

We didn't waste any more time and headed towards our assigned seats already.

The class ended smoothly and I walked near Sophia to invite her to go home when she approached Prince.

"Prince, I want to thank you for earlier."

"No problem, you should head home already and rest early. You should remember to avoid your injured arm from getting wet since the nurse said that that is necessary to speed up your recovery."

"Yes, I understand! I won't forget such a simple thing! I'm not stupid, you know."

"Umm. Yeah? But you're forgetful sometimes. Don't you know that?"

"Geez... Stop making fun of me! Anyway, we should go-"

"Sophiaaaa!!" Lance rushed towards our direction.

"H-hey Lance, calm down!" Sophia kept him under control.

"W-w-what happened? Does it hurt? You made me worried so much!"

"You don't need to worry that much about me, Lance. I'm fine. It doesn't hurt anymore. See?" Sophia tried to move her hand vigorously.

"Ouch!"

"Hey, stop doing that! You're making your injury worse." Prince scolded Sophia out of concern.

"Can you walk just fine?" Lance asked.

"Stop jesting! My lower arm is the one that got injured, not my feet."

"You're right. I'm sorry, I just panicked."

"Ok, stop all that worrying now. We should go home now since I'm also hungry."

"I should walk you home, Sophia." Lance and Prince said at the same time.

"No, you don't need to do that. I can manage just fine. And Elaine and Janna is also with me so there's no need for you two to bother walking me home."

"That's right! So can you two please stop bothering Sophia already?" Elaine said while walking towards us.

"Sophia." We looked who just called Sophia faintly and we saw John standing behind us.

"I'm sorry."

"No, it's fine! Don't worry about it! I'm also at fault for pestering you so much. I'm really sorry. I hope you won't hate me."

"No, of course not. How could I possibly hate you. You're-"

"Hey guys!!" A loud voice was coming from the door.

"Kris? And also Gilbert? Are you already done? Shall we go home then?" Sophia asked.

"Wait... First of all, what happened to your arm? Have you gone crazy and bit your own arm?" Kristoffer made a joke of her injury.

"Ha ha... So funny, Kris." Sophia is looking at him contemptuously.

"I'm just kidding! You don't need to look at me like that! So, what really happened? Is it serious?"

"No, it's not! It's a long story and it's not that important. We must go home now because I want to eat already!"

"Oh, about that... Mr. Roxas ordered me to run an errand for him. Can you please wait for me for just a little bit? I'll try to be quick!"

"You'll TRY to be quick? Seriously? Can't you see the bandages wrapped around Sophia's arm? She needs to rest as early as possible and she doesn't have time to wait for you." Elaine said sarcastically.

"No, Elaine. It's fine with me to wait for him. He also said that it won't take too long, right?" Sophia insisted.

"No, you should go home already, Sophia. I'll wait for Kris so you don't need to worry about it. Elaine, you should also go with her." I said just to make Sophia stop insisting.

"Are you sure? Is it alright for you to wait alone here in the classroom?" Elaine asked me worriedly.

"She's not alone. I'll also wait for my cousin." John cut in our conversation.

"Then that settles it! You should go home and rest Sophia. Janna and John will wait for me. Gilbert, can you please go with them? It's more reassuring to have at least one boy in a group." Kristoffer pleaded Gilbert who's beside him.

"Yeah, it's fine. I will take care of them."

"Thanks Gilbert!"

"I'll also go with you!" Lance and Prince said in unison once again.

"Gosh. The two of you are really stubborn. Fine! You can walk me home but only for today, ok?" Sophia agreed forcedly.

The five of them went ahead while John and I were left alone inside the classroom. The two of us waited for Kristoffer without holding a conversation.

(Outside the school)

"Thank you for waiting for me, Janna!" Kristoffer said happily.

"It's fine. It's not like I'm in a hurry anyway."

"What about you, John? Are you going to commute to get to the hotel you're staying in?"

"No, I already contacted Mr. Ron earlier and I think he should be here soon." He just finished his sentence when we heard an automobile horn behind us.

"Sir." A tall man got out of the car.

"My attendant is already here. I should go now. I'm looking forward to live with you next week, Kris!"

"Yeah, me too! Goodbye! Take care!"
