Chapter 7 - The Commoner's Life (Part 1)

Bill's POV:

Today is the day of my transfer in the prestigious school, Glistening High. I chose to change schools because of my personal reasons.

One of my reasons is to become independent without the guidance of my parents. I want to grow into a fine man so that my parents will be proud of me someday. Another reason is to avoid my childhood friend Stephanie... She's been bothering me ever since we got into the same school during elementary. I know that she has feelings for me but I think she's going too overboard by stopping me to expand my social connections. She doesn't allow me to get close to my female classmates let alone be friends with them. Well, Kim is an exception though since the three of us grew up together. What's more is that she's spreading rumors around the school the she and I are going out. I don't like any troublesome things and I hate misunderstandings about me. I only treat her as a good friend, no more than that.

Those are the reasons why I applied for a scholarship in a school far from my hometown. Well, I just hope that I will be able to have a peaceful life in this new school just like what I wanted.

As soon as I arrived in Glistening High, I already felt mesmerized. It is indeed no doubt a school meant for children of rich people. Luckily, I was able to get into this school despite my social status because of my outstanding grades.

I got nervous when I first got inside the gate. It's already lunch this time that's why there are so many students out here. I really feel like suffocating since I know that they are out of my reach and maybe they will think of me as an outcast in the social circle.

There's no use thinking about this... I'll just go to the principal office immediately so that I can head to my classroom soon.

Since I am new to this school, I have no idea where the location of the principal's office is that's why I needed some help of my schoolmates before I got here. Once I opened this door, my new life will finally begin. Ok, let's do this Bill.

I knocked three times and I heard a weak voice saying "Come in!"

I opened the door and saw an old man who seems to be the principal.

"Good day, Sir. I am Bill Burton, the transfer student that will be coming here starting today. I'm sorry I wasn't able to come here in school earlier since I came from a faraway place and just arrived here in this city this morning. I first settled in and arranged some of my important things." I greeted while bowing my head.

"No, it's fine. Don't worry about it. It's your first day today so I won't dare scare the hell out of you and make you uncomfortable because of my scolding. Besides, it's my pleasure to have you in this school. Basing on your grades of the past years, they are exceptional that it can be even compared to the grades of the top students here at this school. It's rare to see that there will be someone who will be able to compete with those prodigies, you know? Anyways, you must be very eager to meet your new classmates, aren't you?"

"Yes Sir!"

"Ok... Starting from today, you will belong to Grade 10 Class 1. That class is where the top students belong to so you must be prepared that there will be more competitors here compared to your last school. I hope you'll continue doing your best."

"I see... Thank you very much, Sir! So, well, um... Where can I find my classroom? I'm sorry but I am still not familiar with this place and I was able to go into your office because of my schoolmates' instruction. And this school is really big, I swear."

"Oh, that's right... I'm sorry. You see I'm getting senile already because of my age. If I am going to tell you, I think you will have a hard time finding it because this school is really enormous so for that matter, I'll let the Student Council President accompany you since she will also be your classmate. It's also a good opportunity for you to be introduced by her to your classmates. Just go to her directly. Just head straight right ahead into the hallway and the office at the end is the Student Council Office where she might be in right now."

"Ok, thank you very much, Sir. I'll get going then."

"Right. I hope you'll get used here as soon as possible."

I closed the door and headed to the right direction of the hallway as the principal had said. I can see a room at the end of the hallway. It must be what the principal is talking about.

I knocked at the door and a girl with a small body opened it for me.

"Yes? Can I help you with something?" She asked me.

"Uh... Yes. Um... Actually, I came here for the Student Council President. By any chance, is see inside?"

"Ah yes... Please come in."

I looked around the room and I realized that this room is really amazing. It's just a room provided for student leaders but look at all this stuff... It's as if it's a living room inside a school. It's so spacious that even a hundred students can fit inside.

"Sophia, I think this young man needs your help with something."

I was halted from my astonishment when I suddenly heard a soft voice.

"I see. So Mr. What do you need from me?"

A girl that is busy writing something together with two boys talked to me without even looking at me directly. She must be really busy. As expected of a Student Council President.

"Um... Yes, I was ordered by the Principal to come here and look for you to accompany me to my new classroom. He said that you will also be my classmate." I explained to her.

She stopped writing suddenly and looked at me properly.

"Oh, you must be the new student, huh? So, what's your name?"

"I'm Bill Burton, from the outskirts of the city. Please take good care of me from now on, Ma'am."

"Ha ha."

The girl giggled suddenly as if I said something funny.

"Is there something wrong with what I said, Ma'am?"

"Come on, there's no need for formalities. We're just the same age and on top of that, we'll also become classmates. I may be in front of you now as a respected Student Council President but once I get out in this office, I'm just a normal student studying diligently to achieve her dreams like you. I am Sophia Bailey. Just call me Sophia. And these people are my co-student council members. Come on, introduce yourselves." She said to the people sitting beside her.

"Nice to meet you, Mr. Burton! I am Kristoffer Harvey from Class 2. My classroom is just in front of yours so I think we will pass by each other often. Enjoy your days here in this school!" A boy wearing glasses greeted me enthusiastically.

"I am Shakira Evans, one of your classmates-to-be. I hope you'll get along with me." The girl who welcomed me inside the office earlier said.

"I am Lance Ford. I will also become your classmate. Nice to meet ya!" A tall guy that looks like a carefree type of guy said.

"Now that you've already got to know the Student Council Members, you can approach any of us whenever you need something and we will happily help you. For now, just sit wherever you want while waiting for me because we're still finishing something regarding your transfer papers. Shakira, could you also give him some cookies or any snacks to chomp on while waiting?"

"Ok, Sophia. Please wait here for a moment and I'll get you something to eat." Shakira said while guiding me to the resting area.

"Ok, thank you."
