Chapter 78 - Carnation 76

Third Person

Paris, France: Bar Haven

3:30 P.M.

He wasn't believing it. Nightmare thought he was in a realistic dream, but he saw how Raine Aksenov actually got Dione Hayden to follow her orders. First, he rented him a nice room which was new to the building. He watched how the two helped each other wash the dirt off him. The whole time he was grunting and weeping as the soap got inside each slit on his body. Gently, the girl wrapped him in a clean blanket to let his wounds dry out a little before they sew them close and bandage his whole body.

Raine gritted her teeth when she examined the injured boy's almost amputated leg before sprinkling some crushed antibiotic on his wound. Nightmare grunted and moaned while the girl soothed his feeling by brushing her fingers against his newly washed hair.

Now that he was rested, wrapped in bandages like a semi-era mummy, Raine covered half of his body with a blanket and leaned closely in his ear, "I'll return you to Phoenix," she smiled, "Just be patient for a little longer..."

"You know, Phoenix came to Saccharide's condominium the day you slapped me," Dione joined the warm ambiance of the conversation.

Raine asked uninterestingly, "And?"

Nonetheless, the boy continued with his story while the girl arranged all the things they used for Nightmare's treatment, "We played Tag you're it," He stood up from his seat and walked behind the girl who was organizing the cans of food for Nightmare on the shelf, "I am this close to tagging him multiple times with this needle, but then Menthos showed up," he continued and helped her reach the farthest space in the cupboard.

Raine asked again then avoided being in contact with the white-haired lad, "And?"

Reluctantly, Dione sighed and finally said the next set of words that will surely diminish his pride for the next five years. The moment he closed the cupboard, he turned to Raine and said, "I let him go..."

As shocked as she was, all of the distorted expectations she created inside her mind vanished. Raine stopped like a reindeer in front of a car's headlights and asked, "Why?"

Dione pictured a more flamboyant reaction — something that he would enjoy, but she just threw a query, "You said yourself jeez," he expressed and crossed his arms.

Raine continued to fold the clothes she bought for Nightmare and retaliated, "I didn't—"

"You're right! Maybe, I don't want Menthos to grow up to be like myself," Dione's sudden outburst made Nightmare flicked one eye open and grunt. Raine smiled at his realization, but she took care of the injured male first and helped him adjust his comforter.

"Don't be too loud! Nightmare's trying to rest..." Raine insisted that they go outside and talk, but as the female took his hand, he pushed her forcefully that Raine loses her balance and fell on her bottom with a great thump. She looked up and was met with Dione's enraged eyes. The female stood up and opened the door to exit, but someone pulled her inside and tossed her to the side of the bed with Nightmare.

When she landed on the bed, Raine accidentally bumped Nightmare's bandaged shoulder, "Are you alright?"

"Oh, fuck him!" Dione screamed and diverted the girl's attention to him, "Who cares if he wakes up?"

"Fine," Sighing, Raine realized what the distressed male wants her to say so, she stood up and looked him in the eyes, "I'm glad I've opened your eyes," she patted his shoulders. The boy spun the girl around as he wasn't satisfied with the expression she had given him. Raine whimpered as her back hit the wall.

All of a sudden, Dione burst into a rage fit and their conversation led to a conversation where another ranted while the other just flinched with every rant, "Don't rub it in! I already know you're right!" the boy ended and left the girl shaking. He was frustrated by something and it was hard for the girl to point it out. Dione grabbed his coat on the chair beside the nightstand before striving out the door.

Upon seeing the boy leaving, Raine followed him and stopped him by blocking his way. The teen pushed her with no questions asked left the scene quickly. Determined, the girl followed him, still pondering about the words she needs to say, "I know for a fact, you have something good left inside you— I'm proud of you, Dione!" she shouted across and her voice echoed, "If that's what you want me to say..."

Dione stopped walked but did not dare to turn around. Sighing, Raine came back to Nightmare's room and closed the door behind her. Seconds after, she was once again pushed when the white-haired teen made his entrance before locking the door.

"Hey Aksenov," Dione called and looked the girl in the eye, "Don't expect me to fall in love with you just like how you make every people around..."

Raine frowned and stuttered while figuring out where to turn her head to the boy's nonchalant statement, "I'm not trying to!"

"That's the thing! Stop being nice, then maybe people won't involve themselves in this fucking war," the male pointed his finger to the flustered female and roared those words.

Confused, Raine scrunched her face to think for a second before giving up the second Dione grunted and punched the wall in frustration because of the girl's naiveness, "I don't know what you're getting into this conversation," Still shaking in her sneakers, Raine peeked on the boy's shoulder to see if he managed to afflict pain on his fists.

"Let me see your hand," She carefully turned the boy around and examined the mild contusion on his knuckled. Handling his small injury with care, Raine wrapped it with the remaining bandages after she applied some anti-inflammatory cream and antiseptic, while the boy glared with pure hatred. As uncomfortable as she was, Raine continued treating him until his eyes softened and wondered— how can a person accustomed to pain, able to cure injuries with delicacy?

Dione stood up from the wooden stool and called for the girl's attention who was currently organizing the medicine kit, "Come with me," he simply requested and led her outside. Raine threw one last look at Nightmare's sleeping form before closing the door gently. Her worries lessened upon hearing the keys click the lock inside the knob— Now no one can enter, but her Dione who asked for a duplicate, and she wouldn't permit it.

As soon as they got outside, he gazed upon the sun and squinted his eyes when its slowly decreasing rays hit his iris, "We'll take care of Saccharide's daddy issues," Upon looking to his side, another ray of sunlight was there. It was Raine Aksenov, the sunshine he hates. The girl averted his gaze before saying, "Thank you,"— while clumping the hem of her dirty dress.

"And I hate you," the boy snubbed, "But I don't mention it very often like you do..."

Raine followed clumsily with a little fear of seeing France's God of War— Dèmise Heinz. With or without Saccharide, the girl's heart was full of contempt and she was going to end this war before it worsens.
