Quancheng No.3 Middle School, in the medical room.
A certain teenager, as unremarkable as some school principal, lay in a sickbed holding his head.
Standing beside his sickbed was a meter-tall skeleton, pale all over, exuding a kind of dim-witted cuteness amidst its eeriness.
Yep, that wobbly Little Skeleton was one of the main reasons for the boy's throbbing headache.
"If I have to reincarnate, why couldn't it have happened just a little bit sooner, not too much, just one hour earlier, just one hour would have done it!"
"Just one hour earlier and, with my talent, with my looks, there's no way I could have summoned such an unlucky creature, right?"
Lu Wu was particularly frustrated at the moment.
Reincarnation should have been a good thing.
To go from being in your twenties to an 18-year-old high school student was even better.
Even though the world after reincarnation seemed to have changed.
Even though the previously harmonious and stable society now included monsters and the unscientific existence of Secret Realms, for Lu Wu, this was definitely something to be happy and excited about.
But right now, Lu Wu couldn't feel happy because his start seemed a bit off.
Just one hour ago.
The school had organized a Summoning Ceremony just before summer vacation started for their second-year students.
For those students who aspired to become Professional Summoners, this was not only their first summoning but also the most important one in their lives.
The outcome of this summoning greatly influenced whether they could become real Professional Summoners in the future, its importance was comparable to the college entrance exam in the previous world.
But at such a ceremony, Lu Wu, or rather his predecessor, had summoned that very creature next to him as his initial Summoned Beast.
When the Little Skeleton appeared, Lu Wu's predecessor got so excited he just chose to pass out and fell into a coma.
Afterward, he was brought here, and then Lu Wu crossed over.
After initially assimilating the memories left by his predecessor, Lu Wu found his own morale slightly collapsing.
He looked at the Little Skeleton in front of him and felt that maybe, perhaps, he too should consider passing out for a bit.
"Thud thud thud"
As Lu Wu was wrestling with whether to pass out or not, a knock on the door came along with a particularly crisp voice.
"Lu Wu, are you awake?"
Lu Wu recognized the voice, it was his childhood friend, Pang Duddu, er, even though the surname seems off, somehow this name seemed more apt.
"Yeah!"
Just as Lu Wu had responded, a particularly large and round figure carefully squeezed into the room.
This was Lu Wu's childhood friend, whose real name was Pang Duddu, nicknamed Dudu.
Eighteen years old like Lu Wu, she was a bit under 1.7 meters tall, with a weight that had already broken the 200-pound mark.
Dudu came to the bedside, carrying in her arms a fist-sized piglet she had just summoned, and asked with concern, "Lu Wu, are you okay?"
Lu Wu glanced at the pig in Dudu's arms, then at Dudu herself, and rubbed his head.
"Feeling much better now!"
Indeed, the sense of happiness is about comparison.
Compared to his cheap friend who came with reincarnation, Lu Wu felt that his situation was actually tolerable.
Even though the Little Skeleton was a bit rubbish, it still had to be better than his friend's pig, right? And he definitely had her beat in terms of looks.
"That's good to hear!"
Completely oblivious to what Lu Wu was thinking, Dudu was especially happy to hear that Lu Wu was feeling better, her chubby face breaking into a smile.
She smiled, and Lu Wu was not pleased.
"Don't laugh, your flesh starts quivering when you do. How many times have I told you, stop eating that junk food, if you need to lose weight then listen to me.
Look at everyone else's childhood friends, they are all pretty girls. How come I end up with a fatty like you?"
After Lu Wu said this, he was stunned by his own words.
He didn't expect to say something like that; it seemed that Pang Duddu was used to it, though.
Pang Duddu wasn't just unfazed, she was actually obedient: When Lu Wu told her not to laugh, she didn't.
The sight made Lu Wu rather uncomfortable. The words he had just spoken were influenced by the memories he had just received from his predecessor. They were not his true feelings.
If Pang Duddu had talked back, he might have felt better, but her compliance made him feel especially uneasy.
"Oh come on, I scold you and you won't scold me back? Are you just going to let me pick on you?"
Scratching her head, Pang Duddu responded to Lu Wu with a shy, sheepish smile.
Seeing her like that deflated Lu Wu's anger. His childhood friend was otherwise great, but she was too fat, too timid, and on top of that, his previous self had been somewhat of a jerk, treating her almost like a punching bag.
Adjusting his mindset, Lu Wu asked about the other childhood friend in his memories while getting up from the sickbed: "What about Old Lin? Why hasn't he come over yet?"
The mention of Old Lin was fine until it wasn't.
As soon as Lu Wu brought him up, Pang Duddu's expression turned unnatural, and she subconsciously lowered her chubby head.
Sensing something was off, Lu Wu turned to look at Pang Duddu, narrowing his eyes: "I'm asking you?"
"Well, Old Lin went to the training ground with the class leader and said he wouldn't return with us, telling us to go back on our own," she replied, her head dipping even lower.
It was as if she wished she could bury her plump body in a crack in the ground.
She knew that Lu Wu would surely get angry after hearing this.
Because Old Lin had betrayed them. Just yesterday, the three of them had agreed that after their Summoned Beasts appeared, they'd form a team for the National High School Summoners' Contest. Now that the ceremony was over, upon seeing that the two of them had summoned a "Mini Pig" and a "Little Skeleton," both initial Summoned Beasts lacking potential, Old Lin didn't even bother going home with them and ran off with the class leader instead. It was clear he didn't want them anymore.
Knowing Lu Wu's temper, Pang Duddu was scared that he would certainly get upset and angry.
When Lu Wu got mad, he was really fierce.
Surprisingly to Pang Duddu, Lu Wu didn't get angry but just paused for a moment, responded with a flat "Oh! Got it!" and then got up to leave.
Seeing this, Pang Duddu quickly followed him with the "Mini Pig" in her arms.
And the Little Skeleton that was originally by Lu Wu's sickbed also began to follow him with its shaky little steps after he left.
But the little guy walked so slowly, its bones rattling and wobbling that it hadn't gone far when, with a 'clack,' it fell to the ground.
The Little Skeleton couldn't feel pain, let alone cry out in pain.
After falling, it just stood up on its own and continued to chase after Lu Wu, only to fall again after a few steps.
Then it got up, chased, and fell again.
This cycle repeated several times and Pang Duddu watched, feeling both distressed and a bit frightened.
She didn't dare to touch these Undead Type creatures, and she was also worried that helping it might make Lu Wu angry.
Just when Pang Duddu didn't know what to do, Lu Wu, who was ahead of her, stopped and sighed, then turned around, walked back, and picked up the Little Skeleton.
Lu Wu's expression faltered for a moment as he lifted the Little Skeleton, but he quickly regained his composure and, taking the wobbly Little Skeleton along, strode off.
Watching Lu Wu lead the Little Skeleton away, Pang Duddu stood there bewildered. For some reason, she felt that there was something odd about Lu Wu today, he seemed different from himself...
