Chapter 2 - World Government

In a large auditorium, a round table stood in the middle. Around the table both men and women were seated. They numbered up to fifteen and were in a very heated discussion.

"This is the first emergency meeting since twenty four years ago. Of course I'm tensed", a grey haired elderly man spoke with a frown on his face.

"Well, you are right. Twenty four years ago was quite... Something", this time it was a middle-aged woman. Hey sunken eyes was proof that she had not slept well in days.

The discussion about how worried they were filled the room but nobody seemed to want to talk about what exactly had happened twenty four years ago. Everybody was engrossed in the discussion, everybody except a particular young man.

He was the most relaxed in the room. This young man was probably in his early twenties and was easily the youngest in the hall. His red hair that stood like a candle flame combined with his buttoned down shirt under his blue tuxedo made him look like a Posh gangster. He had been listening to their discussion and had noticed how they had kept dodging what particularly happened twenty four years ago.

"Forgive my intrusion. Out of curiosity, may I know what exactly happened?", he decided to finally butt in after losing his patience.

There was an awkward silence as everyone in the room stared at one another. In their eyes one could see hints of hesitation. He was about to speak when a voice cut him off. It was the same middle-aged woman that had spoken earlier.

"Mr Quinn. I understand you are very new to the council, you probably were just born at the time this event we speak of happened. However, since you are now one of us... It would be unfair to keep you in the dark"

Quinn gently nodded for her to continue.

"Twenty four years ago, an expedition team of blesseds were put together to go investigate a strange energy output down in North America, Haiti to be precise. The team was made up of a score of D rank blesseds and few C ranks. It was led by the famous B rank blessed, Anthony Hilger.", she paused for a bit to check if Quinn was still with her. Satisfied, she continued.

"They traced the energy output to a tomb in an ancient cave. The report stated that the tomb probably belonged to somebody of high status as it was filled with lots of valuables. The team members hadn't wasted time in trying to fill their pockets. Anthony decided to keep tracing the energy and he finally found its source.

It was a book."

"A book?", Quinn's eyes widened a tad.

The woman nodded before continuing.

"It was in the sarcophagus, locked by bony hands. The report claimed even Anthony had problems forcing the book out. That's a bit terrifying considering brute strength and durability were his abilities. The man could easily block a speeding tanker without breaking a sweat yet he had found it difficult to take out a book from the grasps of some bony hands. Well, that was when it happened. Immediately the book was forced out, a massive surge of energy burst out. It instantly wiped out almost everybody on the team. Only Anthony, thanks to his durability, and two others with defensive abilities had survived.", the woman sighed.

Quinn frowned. Yes, that might had been a bit unfortunate but it shouldn't be enough to make these people act like they were doing now. Although they did care about the fate of humanity, that was only as a whole and not individual humans. And even if they had lost some Blesseds, they were only the average ones. Moreover, these people literally had millions of blesseds at their beck and call.

Then it hit him. Twenty four years ago. That was in the year 2010.

"Haiti's earthquake!!", Quinn exclaimed.

"You guys did that?", he raised an eyebrow.

The middle aged woman gave a bitter smile before nodding.

"Although, it was said that an estimate of three hundred and fifty thousand had died that day. The accurate number is actually seven million plus."

Quinn's eyes widened. This was a very large event. That was more than half the whole population in Haiti. He was about to ask how they had successfully hidden it from the other parts of the world but stopped after remembering what sort of people these were.

Personally, he felt it was easier to blame it on a natural disaster than hide the death of such large amount.

Almost immediately, a bald old man walked in. He looked like he was in his 70's yet his posture was as straight as a ruler. His eyes were firm and cold as he made his way to the table. Everyone at the round table rose as they called out in unison

"Chairman!", they saluted.

The Chairman nodded as an acknowledgement to their greetings and had them sit before also taking his seat.

"I apologize for coming late. I had to treat some issues before getting here".

These people were arrogant and powerful, if it were another person whom had kept them waiting, an apology would not be enough to smother their wrath. But this was the chairman. A man titled as the strongest blessed in the world. To go against him was the same as inviting death into your home.

"Okay then. Without further ado, this emergency meeting commences!"

Two hours later.

Out of a large mansion, a group of people strutted out. The emergency meeting had come to a close and a conclusion had been reached. After several years of trials, the Holy book has finally opened. Apart from scriptures written in a strange language, a silver key had been found.

The conclusion was that they both would be separately hidden but even they were not told where it would be hidden.

Quinn walked towards a man standing right beside a helicopter. The blonde man was tall and also in a suit. On seeing Quinn, he bowed almost a ninety degree.

"My lord."

Quinn nodded at his salutation and walked into the helicopter. He then took a glance at the other people as they walked off with their guards whom had waited for them outside the mansion. They also got into their aircrafts and took off in different directions.

Quinn glanced at the mansion once more. This was his second time coming here. The first was when he was just made one of the council members five years ago. This was their second meeting since then. The mansion was built in the middle of an island. Apart from the council members only few others knew of its existence.

Even as the world government, they were very secretive.

"That Chairman is definitely not ordinary", Quinn chuckled to himself. For a man to be so powerful yet taciturn. He definitely has knowledge of this world better than others. The world government was run by the council. It was made up of sixteen people, the chairman included.

The people on the council were ridiculously strong. They were all blesseds and their grades were no less than A rank. To them, they were at the very peak of the world but Quinn knew that was not the case, and he was sure the Chairman knew too.

Still chuckling to himself he spoke "let's go."

"What next my lord?", Quinn's tall guard asked as the copter took to the air.

Quinn smirked with all his gleaming white teeth exposed.

"How about we get ourselves a book and key? ".
