Chereads / X FORCE / Chapter 15 - Death (1)

Chapter 15 - Death (1)

'Every day is a chance to change one's life.'

Ring! Ring! Ring!

Vega who was seen driving a black SUV at a moderately higher than the recommended speed limit was deep in thought. She was then brought back to reality by the ringing sound of a phone from the backseat. Looking through the mirror, Vega saw a handbag on the middle seat which was probably the one containing the phone. She ignored it and continued driving forward.

After some minutes of wandering aimlessly, she stopped in front of a closed gate. She was in low spirits and not being able to find the Hypercar that Max left in, she was pissed.

As she was thinking about where to head next, she noticed that the phone was continuously ringing from the backseat. She then picked up the handbag and retrieved the phone inside. After looking at the caller ID for a few seconds, she decided to answer it.

"Bitch! Finally, you picked up. I want my car back right now or else you will end up spending the rest of your freaking miserable life behind bars."

"..."

"Where are you now? Speak up and leave the car there and pray that I won't be able to know you after I take your fingerprints from the steering wheel."

"..."

"Bitch am talking to you. I suggest that you cooperate or else."

"Or else what?!" Vega now answered after keeping quiet for a while. She was pissed and wasn't in the mood for anything right now.

It has been almost an hour since she saw him with that teenager. And she has been looking and searching for him since then.

After Max left. She also followed by jogging and soon came in contact with this lady, probably her age mate loading suitcases into a black SUV. Then she thought that doing this will save her some time and effort. She slowed down to a walk.

After she saw the woman going back into the apartment, she sprinted to the side of the car and closed the back door. Then she opened the drivers' door and entered. After searching for the key for a while, she saw the woman with her daughter carrying a small suitcase, probably the last one.

Vega's heart was pounding inside her ribcage. Not that she was going to get caught but pictured herself trying to escape a horrifying place with her daughter then a stranger comes by and takes their transport away. She was thinking of that situation when her hand went for the ignition and touched something. Looking down to confirm her thought, she saw the key implanted ready to be turned.

"What's wrong?" The woman asked her daughter after noticing that she wasn't moving an inch forward.

"Who is that?" She pointed at their car where a redhead was seen behind the wheel.

"Mmmh! Wait here." The woman dropped the suitcase and run towards her car while shouting.

"Heey!"

Vroom! Vroom!

The car which has been switched off since yesterday evening now roared to life. Vega who has seen the woman running to her while shouting, turned the key in the ignition and revved up to the road. Then drove off at a decent speed. The woman was left in the middle of the road gasping for air after running for a minute or so chasing after her car.

She was now at home using the landline to call her cellphone which was answered after so many attempts.

Tu! Tu! Tu!

The call was disconnected after only a few seconds of conversation. She thought that the redhead was arrogant. She first saw her when she was packing up her suitcases into the car and thought that, who would take a run in this kind of a situation but soon ignored it as she was occupied with only one thought; to get out with her daughter as soon as possible.

She was pissed but what could she do? She had no power over what has happened and now she could only hope for the best for the both of them.

In another part of the neighborhood, Vega was keying a number on the cellphone and then pressed the call button.

"This is Nation Radio, who is calling please."

"Serial Number: A0134290KT3."

"Welcome Operator Alpha 1. How may I direct your call."

"Control, please."

"Please hold."

...

"Bravo Team find cover!" Bravo 1 shouted at his teammates after seeing the missile heading to their position.

Soon enough it was just a couple of meters away from them when it exploded.

Boom!

A loud explosion took place and shook the surrounding areas. Four cars beneath the explosion exploded into flames and another wave of explosions took place.

Boom! Boom!

Boom! Boom!

The cars left the ground due to the sudden impact and touched down after a few seconds. The surrounding area now was covered with debris, flames and hot gases. It was a huge ball of fire.

Unfortunately, Bravo Team were lucky as they weren't much affected by the explosion after Bravo 1 warned them to find cover. Everyone stood behind a car to shield themselves from the ordeal.

Somewhere a few hundred meters away, Delta Team was in the same situation. The Hellfire 2 missile was close to their location when it exploded. Sadly two members were caught in the eye of the explosion and were not answering their comms. It was common to lose a brother in the frontline but it was rare to lose two operators from the Special Forces at once. Though nowadays it's becoming the norm.

...

Just before the unguided missile reached the Hypersport, an explosion took place just a few meters away from the helicopter on top of the heavily blocked road. A fierce shockwave erupted and shot in every direction. The armored helicopter was caught off guard and the pilot lost control for a second. And that was all that was needed.

Boom!

Another explosion took place after the unguided missile hit the Hypersport and a shockwave was once again released. The heavily armored helicopter which was seen stabilizing itself from the first shockwave was again hit by a second shockwave and it started to fall down.

At the same time that the armored helicopter was falling, another helicopter was seen in the same situation. It had been hit at the tail bending it into an awkward position.

The Sidewinder reached its destination before the Interceptor. The Interceptor was only a second late and exploded when it was consumed by the raging flames from the first explosion. The helicopter was once again hit by another explosion causing it to roll in mid-air before hitting the road below.

It was worse. Chaos was taking over, driving everyone crazy. The citizens started to panic after the continuous sounds of explosions from every direction in the neighborhood. A total of almost ten explosions were heard that made everyone cower in their houses and the others at the blockades run over leaving their cars and the shocked police officers.

...

Vega who was still on the phone asking for further information about the whereabouts of Max from her location was suddenly shocked and got out of the car.

She witnessed several missiles flying at the distance and saw two heavily armored helicopters hovering heading towards the possible location of Bravo Team. She ended the call and decided to follow the direction where a third helicopter was standing for some time.

'That is where he is.'

That was one of the thoughts that she had before stepping on the gas pedal. She was also thinking of how to approach Max after everything that has happened between them.

They were sweet to each other before the sun rose up. And that's when everything changed. She thought that after their last encounter, Max looked pissed and disgusted after seeing her again. He saved her from being killed, she owed him a debt of life and gratitude. But she couldn't help but notice that he seemed not to give a shit about it.

It was conflicting for her as she was already married and had a daughter but also had feelings for him. Not because he saved her life. Maybe that's one of the reasons but she noticed that he had positive vibes and attitudes which were great for her. He was also caring and loving, but now she needed to find a common subject that he would be interested in just to convince him that she is one of the good guys.

"Dr. Thomas Fuller wrote, 'With foxes, we must play the fox."

"What do you mean by that Aya?" I asked after Rue and I were left dumbfounded by what she said.

"Aaah! Humans! Okay, I meant that those two Apaches will bring nothing but death, destruction and misery to this neighborhood. So we must act like them: Ruthless, either shoot them down or make them leave. But for now, we can't do both."

I was still shocked by the fact that our car took the missile like it was nothing. Not even a dent was seen on the car or shattered windowpanes, only black soot covered most of the car from where the missile hit. But I had to take in mind what Aya said and think of an idea to accomplish what she suggested.

"What do you propose Aya?" Rue asked cutting off my train of thought.

"You must have a way to solve this, right."

"Yes."
