I shut my journal and set it on the counter to clean myself up. I sigh and walk over to the sink and wash my hands. I look up at myself in the mirror. My long blond hair is a mess and slightly sweaty where it had been draped over my face. My nose was red and dripping snot. My nose compared to my fair complexion looks like a clown nose with greenish confetti coming out of it. My blue eyes are bloodshot and swollen. I look down. "I look disgusting.... I am f*****g disgusting." I think to myself as tears begin to well in my eyes. I hear a faint whisper. "Huh?" I mumble. I poke my head out the restroom door to see who was there. "That's weird... No one is here!?!" I close the door and reach for the faucet. "There it is again!?!" my eyes widen as I think to myself. The whispering continues, but I can't make out what is being said. I cautiously look around the restroom trying to determine where it was coming from. "Its not coming from the door... Is it coming from the cabinet under the sink?" I near the cabinet doors and squint my eyes as I listen a little more carefully. "Maybe??? Maybe someone put a baby monitor in there and is messing with me???" I open the doors and look inside. The whispering continues. "There is nothing in here... and it doesn't sound like its coming from in here???" I close the doors and stand up. I notice the whispering is slightly louder. "Is it coming from the sink drain??? Did one of the pipes come loose under the trailer? It is a little breezy today... Maybe its just the wind blowing through a busted pipe." I lean over the sink to inspect it. "The noise is louder that's probably what it was wind in.... No... Wait???" I quickly look up into the mirror and loudly gasp. I stumble back against the washing machine, eyes wide as fear shook my body. I stare at the mirror so afraid... yet mesmerized by the creature I saw staring back at me.
A huge wolf! The biggest freaking wolf I've ever seen! It's long white fur with charcoal tips was flowing like wind was blowing it in slow-motion even though it was holding perfectly still, staring into my sole with bright blue eyes! It was as if time slowed. I could feel my heart pound slowly in my chest. Bu... Dump... Bu... Dump. My breathing seemed to be non existent. It felt like years passed between each breath. The room darkened around me where the only thing I could see was the wolf and myself surrounded in a faint halo of white light. Everything was completely silent, even the whispering had stopped. Then out of nowhere a beautiful voice with a slight echo came from the wolf. "Laura." the voice rang from the wolf.
The only movement from the wolf was a slow blink it didn't even open it's mouth to speak. "Laura." She repeated. "Who are you?" I ask softly. "I am Henna, but I am also you." She replies. "How is that possible?" I ask. "I have always been a part of you and you a part of me sense the day we were conceived." She says. "If that's true why is this the first time I noticed that you even exist?" I cautiously inquire. "Do you remember when you were young how you would dream about being a wolf running through a forest?" She asks. "Yes..." I reply. "Do you remember speaking with your imaginary friend as a young child?" She asks. "Yeah, but I don't remember ever seeing or knowing what my imaginary friend looked like." I reply. " both of these are examples of your awareness of me... the other side of you. " She said. "How?" I demand unsure weather I should trust the wolf. "In your dreams we could shift, unlike in our wake state because our bodies were not strong enough to shift yet. You couldn't see your imaginary friend because I am a part of you residing deep within your being. This is why you could hear me but not see me." She answers. "If this is true then why did we stop communicating with each other?" I ask. "Because our grandfather took us to a witch. She used dark magic to silence me and wipe your memory of that day." She tells me. "Wait!?! What??? So Grandpa knows I am half wolf??? I ask surprised and confused. "First you are not half wolf, you are a werewolf. Second yes he knows... because he is one as well." She says as she squints her eyes. "What!!!" I gasp.
"He knew you were a werewolf ever sense he saw us howling and kicking our feet while we slept in our crib. He realized as we grew older, around the age of four that we are a higher level wolf than he and once we realized it we could control him and put a stop to his sexual abuse. After our sister Brandy was born, he saw that spark of protectiveness ignite inside of us. He couldn't risk it turning into a flame that would consume him. He took us out to get ice cream but first made a stop by a witch's house. She cast her dark spell and put me to sleep." She says with sadness in her eyes. "Why are you awake now if we are under a spell?" I ask. "The spell is warring off and soon will be completely broken. I have been trying desperately to speak to you for years and finally I have gotten you to listen." She says with smiling eyes. "Why couldn't I hear you before now?" I ask. " because when we moved away from our grandfather the spell began to break and I awoke from my coma like state. We were 13 and you still didn't remember me. You were not used to hearing me speak within you, so you thought you were hearing voices as part of your poor mental state. You were prescribed medication from your mental health facility that caused a disconnect from your own being. This is why your medications make you feel sick and like a weird watered down version of yourself. You haven't heard me because you were disconnected from yourself. No matter how loud I called you couldn't hear me... but luckily you have been forgetting to take your medicine for about a week and a half now." She explains. "If I'm a werewolf and grandpa is a werewolf... are all of my family members werewolves?" I ask. "No. Our grandfather is full blooded werewolf, our grandmother is a human werewolf hybrid. Our Uncle Jimmy inherited the werewolf jeans and so did our Dad, Uncle Mitchell did not. Our mother is not a werewolf but you inherited the werewolf jeans your sister did not." She explains. "Oh..." I mumble somewhat disappointed.
"I have exhausted too much of my energy and have to sleep now. The spell is still too strong for me to stay awake for long periods of time. We will speak soon." She informs me. She lets out a loud soul shaking howl and disappears into the darkness. The darkness fades and I find myself back in my restroom starring at myself in the mirror. My hair no longer a sweaty mess, my face is no longer covered in snot, The redness in my eyes and skin has vanished, my eyes are now a vivid bright blue. I notice that I do not look as sickly as I have looked for the past few years. I no longer had acne and blackheads, in fact my skin looked new and glowingly healthy. I hear a faint whisper from within myself it calls out "beautiful..."
I stare mesmerized by what I had just witnessed and amazed at how healthy I all of a sudden look. A wave of exhaustion rushes over me suddenly. "Oh man... is my blood sugar messed up?" I think to myself. I stumble down the hall and into the living room and grab my sugar tester. I dizzily insert the strip into the machine and prick my finger. I apply my blood to the strip and wait for it to read the results. "Hmmm... 98 it's perfect. I must be overwhelmed by what just happened. I need a nap..." I mumble. I stumble into my bedroom and flop onto my bed immediately falling asleep.
