Chapter 3 - Chapter three

Daniel lay fast asleep on the couch with one hand clinging onto Amelia. Thoughts wondered her mind, no matter what she could think up, nothing justified the boy being alone and bruised. She wondered where her parents had disappeared to and looked towards the door they had exited through. Amelia wanted to know what they were going to do. She was worried if Daniel would be sent back to the people who made him become like this. Her curiosity got the best of her like always, she pried the tiny fingers off her hand, placing a cotton blanket over Daniel.

"Where are you going?" Her brother whispered to his sister before looking at the sleeping child with a alarmed face . "To see what they are talking about" She whispered back. Damon's face was in a state of panic. He did not want to be left alone with the boy, what if he woke up and started screaming. He did not know how to deal with a crying child.

"Don't leave me with him" he cried. "Oh hush" Amelia said rolling her eyes. She left the living room and entered the hallway, hearing  hushed whispers from the direction of her father's study. She placed one hand on the handle, slightly cracking the door open to listen in on the conversation without being caught.

"I called the school, they should be coming soon" Her mother said looking while pacing around the room.  "How did he even escape?" Ronald asked. Amelia unconsciously leaned in closer, hoping to hear what her parents were talking about but the few words she had heard make her confused. Her body shook as her mother suddenly halted in place.

"OH NO, I need to tell Amelia to leave" Katherine panicked.

"I'll tell her to go to Roseline's house for the time being" Ronald said standing up from his seat and making his way to the door. He opened the door to see Amelia frozen staring at him with her large brown eyes.

"Amelia?" Her father's voice snapped her out of her frozen state.

"Why do I need to leave?" She asked. Instead of apologising for attempting to listen in their conversation, Katherine walked past her husband grabbing onto Amelia's hand, dragging her up the stairs and into her room.

"Baby listen to me, we are gonna pack some of your stuff and you will stay with your dad's sister for a few days" the words rushed out of her mouth as she took out clothes from Amelia's cupboard and stuffed it into a bag.

"I don't understand what's happening" Amelia stressed.

"Why do I need to leave?" She cried.

"It's only for a few days, me and your dad will pick you up and we will explain everything, okay?" The explanation given was hardly any kind of explanation, it only added more questions.

Amelia stood there watching her mother walk around frantically packing all her essentials into the bag.

"What about Daniel?" Amelia asked. Katherine looked at Amelia, not sure who Daniel was. "Daniel is his name" she explained. Katherine grabbed Amelia's arm, walking her out "He will be safe, do not worry". However, time seemed to have stopped when a knock could be heard from the front door. The sound of each knock echoed around the house, as each family member had frozen in place.

"They're here already" she whispered.

"Stay in here and be quiet" Katherine ordered, pushing her daughter's hair to the side, cupping her right cheek before leaving the room and closing the door behind her.

Amelia did not lack common sense, she moved closer to the door but did not even think of even touching the door. She knew to trust her mother, even if the situation seemed confusing. She could here the sound of footsteps, the front door opening and her mother. "He is over there" Katherine said. After a few seconds, nothing else could be heard but the sound of her fast-paced breathing and the sound of her heart in her ears.

All of a sudden it all went quiet, there was no noise what's so ever. Amelia thought that maybe they had left and her being in her thoughts made her not hear the sound of the front door opening and closing. The thought of the mysterious people leaving gave her some sort of relief as she went to reach the door handle. But before she could fully open the door a loud scream emitted through the tiny crack.

The thought of Daniel being asleep in the living room came back to her mind. Amelia yanked open her room door and ran towards the scream. She flew down the stairs and towards the living room to see no one there, but the garden door which was closed earlier now open. She ran to the garden, to see the figure of two men. They were dressed in long, black trench coats and black hats which covered the half their face, so only their mouths could be seen. They had black gloves and black shiny shoes which reflected their surroundings. They were the same men she had seen in the Cafe that same morning. Beside the strange men stood her parents and brother watching Daniel struggling to escape that hands of their guests.

"Amelia" The boy cried looking at Amelia, reaching his hands out.

"What are you doing?" She exclaimed.

The man who stood on the right turned around to her voice. His hands touched his hat as he raised it up to see the member of this family he was unaware of. His hat was moved back, showing his grey coloured eyes. As if she was enchanted, Amelia's body froze in place. She struggles to move and was unable to turn her eyes away from the unusual colour that look like they were erased leaving behind a disturbed colour.

"Another gifted?" The man asked turning his head back to her parents.

"Well, oh well, look what he have here" a smirk laced his face causing her body to shudder in fear and disgust.

"No, not her" Katherine shouted rushing in front of Amelia, blocking her body from their sight.

"I don't think you have any say. Marc?" the man spoke again turning around to his partner who was carrying a now unconscious Daniel. The man looked at Amelia, and without warning Amelia's body felt as though she had become as light as a feather.

"Let her go!" Katherine pleaded. Towards the grey eyed man holding into her unconscious daughter.

"This child has been kept a secret, you will have to come with us and explain to the board" Grey eyes commanded. The authority placed in his voice had left no room for argument. Katherine was scared for her child and her family, she knew that now, her precious daughter's life would change for the worse. The one thing she had wanted to avoid, and the only reason she had decided to live in this quiet town.
