My phone is ringing. That's the first thought I'm woken up to this fine morning. I wipe my tired eyes and look over at the man that has his arms wrapped around my torso.
He's peacefully sleeping. I'm surprised he hasn't woken up to the blaring noise of my phone. His sensitive wolf ears should have him crying in agony right now.
The ringing stops for a moment, but comes back again. I roll over to grab my phone and see the name MJ on the screen. I answer to stop the ringing.
"Ughh, what do you want," I answer him, a little aggravated. I hear him chuckle on the other side of the call.
"Good morning to you too, beautiful. I'm sorry to have to wake you up, but we have some business to sort out." I can hear the grin on his face.
My hands play with the hair on Alaric's head as a frown forms on my face.
"What business?"
"Have you already forgotten what we've come here to do?" I sigh and hit my head.
"Of course not. So what do you have planned," I ask him, standing up from the bed and swiftly putting on clothes.
"I've already gotten in contact with Jaisley, Hanna, and Chris. We're all going to head down to this little village I got a lead on. We're going to do a stake out while your dad and the others handle things here. We can't risk drawing too much attention with all of us going, but if we need back up they won't be far behind."
"How did you get this lead?"
"Well, your father called up one of the leading packs in this area to set up a meeting to speak about the killings of their pack members, but they said they had an early meeting scheduled with a witch already. We have a feeling it may be our witch."
I feel a tall body press up from behind me and wrap it's arms around me. It's breath tickles my neck.
"What time is the meeting," I ask as Alaric places soft kisses against the back of my neck. My eyes close as I enjoy the sensation.
"10. We leave in an hour."
"I'll be there," I finalize and hang up the phone.
"Good morning," Alaric greets me in his rough morning voice. I turn around to face him and he places a kiss on my forehead.
This is the first time I'm really observing him and seeing how much he's grown since I last seen him before I ran off with Chris.
I can tell he's been training a little bit since I've left. His shoulders are broader and his muscles more defined.
His hair is a little longer too and some stubble lingers on his chin.
He's no longer the teenage boy I met a little over a year ago.
"Care to share a quick shower," I tease him with a smirk on my face. I slip out of the clothes I just put on to freshen up before the stake out.
His face grows in a bright red blush but he doesn't disapprove of my idea and follows behind me.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
"Anne, scoot over," MJ whispers to me. We're both crouched down behind some bushes that hide us from the view of a window of the pack house.
The pack house is an average size two story family home made out of wood. It's painted in a grayish-blue, the roof is a navy blue, and the boarders of all the windows are white.
This house is only for the most elite members of the pack that is why it is small. MJ and I are waiting for a signal from Hanna and Jaisley as they climb the balcony of the house.
"Jaisley give us a signal of when you're in position," I hear my dad speak into the ear piece placed in my right ear. This feels like old times when him and I went on missions. Only this time we have more help.
"We placed the devices inside the house. We're leaving now," Hanna informs us.
"Be careful guys," Don says through the mic back at the hotel, but we know he's really referring to Chris who's playing watchout from down the street to see when the pack arrives back for their meeting.
"They'll be fine. I whipped them up something special," Cassandra informs him. "They won't be smelt by wolves from miles away with the perfume I made. They're undetectable."
"Now this is how a real steak out is done," I whisper to myself. I should take notes.
"Why couldn't I go with them," I hear Alaric ask someone.
"I'll be fine Alaric," I reassure him. I know he's only really worried about me.
"Yeah, I'll keep her safe," MJ says and wraps his arm around my shoulder which makes me cringe. I hear a low growl from the other side of the ear piece.
"That doesn't make me feel any better," Alaric grunts out.
"I hate to interrupt you guys, but it's time. Their heading your way," Chris shrieks. Everything goes quiet and soon we can hear multiple cars revving up the drive way.
"So when is this witch supposed to arrive," I hear a booming voice say once they exit their vehicle. The other car doors open and close. I sense about 8 people walking towards the steps of the house. The rest of them must be guards because they stay in the front of the house.
"The meeting is set to start in five minutes so hopefully she's here on time," the voice of a women informs.
"Why are we meeting with this random lady again," another, younger voice comes in. Maybe around the age of 13 and possibly the son of the Alpha.
"Why don't you sit in at the meeting and you'll see for your self," another girl says, maybe a few years older than him.
"I don't like boring business meetings like you. I'll leave the boring listening and talking to you," the boy tells her and she chuckles.
"Well one day you'll have to prepare for these boring business talks to help your sister run this village," the women from earlier says. I believe she may be the Luna.
At this point they are deep inside of the house and things turn static and hard to hear.
"Can someone fix that static," Hanna asks.
"On it," I hear Emily say. The static clears out and everything comes back clear.
"Can you go to the station with the device in the office? I think that's where they are?" There's a clicking sound as we move throughout the house until we're finally listening into the Alpha's office.
"Where is this witch? She's late," I hear the Alpha grumble.
"Should we cancel the meeting, sir?"
I hear a loud breeze and the room goes quiet until someone breaks the silence.
"That won't be necessary."
That must be the voice of the infamous Sybil.
