Chapter 1 - A LIFE SAVED

She stepped out of the car in a silent lane, lined by old style houses built along the road. only one Grey two storey full length windows modern exterior house stood out. a street light in front of the house made the house visible in the dark night.

Excitement and nervousness zinged inside her. She moved up the steps and went closer to the house name plate to make sure she was at right place. Indeed she was. CONNOR'S house was written in bold letters over the name plate.

She twisted the door knob moving inside.

"This is awesome, perfect, classic"she squealed. as she turned on the light and took in the house in front of her.

She was happier than ever. she realized she had finally gotten everything she ever wanted. she had an amazing job that she had gotten through her own achievements. an amazing house and her favorite car.

Joy filled her, happiness seized her heart as she opened the door of her new house; this was the house her parents used to stay in whenever they visited Toronto. her mother loved this city. she checked every single corner of the house her mother had designed. Starting from the lounge it was wide. decorated with the combination of blue and grey with a wooden flooring. a tapping sound echoed across the hall through the floor whenever sh moved. there was an open kitchen on the back side of the lounge. a chandelier was hung in the lounge a few feet before the kitchen the kitchen had grey cabinets with a little glimmer of off white in it . the side wall of the lounge had the door to an empty room not so big.the room had a glass door, it had a full length window that looked over to the wonderful city. an idea popped in her mind and she had decided to put her drum set there she loved to drum. on the wall opposite to this room there was a brown door that led to the bedroom. it was well furnished with brown, golden, and white. it had a master bed in the middle and light golden net curtains swayed around the window. a full length mirror was there as a wardrobe door. in the corner of the lounge that connected the walls of kitchen and the bedroom there was a staircase, that led to the roof. On the wall opposite to the kitchen there was a plasma screen Television and in front of it was a royal blue comfy sofa set. she planned to decorate the empty walls of the lounge the house was completely set, well furnished and beautiful, it needed nothing more, it was just perfect.. She snuggled on the comfortable couch her thoughts wandering around.

She felt like the luckiest girl in the world and unluckiest at the same time. indeed she did have gotten everything she wanted but she missed the warmth of her loved ones. She missed sneaking in her brother's room in the middle of the night when she felt like someone was in her room. She missed trying to bargain her secrets with her brother. She missed her mother's morning pancakes, that would make her day better. She missed her mother's comfort hug when she would guess something was wrong. she missed sneaking in her father's office and swinging on his chair, telling him that one day she would be the one sitting here or she would make even a bigger company and order everyone around so that she will no have to do anything herself. and then her father's wise words.

"you have to work hard all by yourself to sit here and order people around."

She missed her father defending her from her mother's scolding. she missed it all so bad that her heart hurt. she was hit by nostalgia. it was all gone now nothing would ever be same. This big house would always be too empty.

She was about to fall asleep when suddenly the lights went out only a little light was visible from the main door. she decided to go upstairs to the roof with the help of this little light to check what was wrong. she carefully assessed her every step, scanning her next move by touching the wall and railing. She finally reached the roof and pushed open the squeaky door moving inside.

A gush of strong wind hit her sending chills through her spine. No light was visible through out the neighborhood, even the purple sky gave creepy vibes. It was insanely silent. She felt nervous. Her heart was drumming against her rib cage.

She moved her hands around, trying to feel anything on her way to moving forward, closer to the border. She moved slowly carefully across the roof when suddenly her ankle twisted and her heels cracked. her heels had ditched her at a really wrong time. She fell forward her hands flailing around trying to grab something for support in the endless darkness of night. To her surprise she felt something being shoved by her hands in that swift moment of her falling face forward in the dark. She resisted her face cracking due to the ground by stopping it inches away with her hands in front of her on the ground. Though her kness had scraped. She now grunted in pain. Just a few seconds later something else contacted with the flo0or making a thud sound astonishing her

She sat back up, turning her attention towards what was shoved by her hand. She flapped her hand around in the air trying to feel someone else presence. She could snse someone beside her. She was sure of it by the blended silhouette of a person beside her, and slight breathing sounds.

"who is there" she whisper shouted panicking.

Before someone replied to her a loud voice cracked through the air jolting her heart. Aloud fire had left from the roof in front of her house, lighting the sky for a split second before it came towards her crossing right above her head. Her heart was out of control she was hyperventilating. Aloud scream left her lips.

"what the heck" she screamed at no one.

she was unable to understand what was going on.

Why and who was there on her roof? Why was someone shooting at her from the roof across. Questions to which she had no answer to crossed her mind.

Another bullet flew towards her and she deliberately ducked. But she stayed silence this time, to stunned and confused to react.

in a swift movement lights won the battle replacing the darkness. And she saw him. her eyes caught the eyes of the man who tried to kill her just a second ago. She was face to face with him. he seemed like a man in his fifties. that stunned her. his face had wrinkles around eyes mostly. his eyes were round and fierce. it bore holes in her. he had a crooked nose. he was bald. a bluetooth device attached to his ear.he had thin straight lips. He was well built. he wore a bleak leather jacket closing in on his arm muscles. he held a rifle pointed at her in between her fingerless gloved hands.

in her entire existence, she could have sworn she had never seen aperosn as fierce as him who is he? she asked the unseen forces. her heart had quickened on a dangerous pace. She was terrified than ever. before she could see more. the guy fell backwards. someone else was there on the roof with that man. there was afighting going on. occasionally the bald head would come up or someone else's.

the light was defeated again. the darkness had won again. everything was black now and she stood the same way stunned.

in one swift moment she had studied him whole. from head to half his body. his terrifying image was now etched in her mind like a black ink on the white paper.

She had not realized she was crying until some wetness felt on her cheek. she wiped it with the back of her hand.

She turned back around reminded of someone else's presence on her roof.

"who are you" she demanded. staring at darkness.

only silence followed.

"what are you doing here"

again silence. she could clearly make out someon'es silhoutte in the darkness.

"do you know me"

again silence. she was clearly getting annoyed.

"how the heck did you get here."

frustration had now gotten the best of her. she was continuosly running her hands through the hair.

"just answer the freaking questions. are you here because of my brother." she was crying now.

"i am really sorry" he was a guy.

"for what"

" and no i am not here because of your brother. and i am sorry for what just happened. and i know you. i do not know if you know me though."

"what are you doing here" her knees had given up and now she was sitting with the support of the wall of roof behind her back.

"you clearly do not know what you just did"

"what did i do"

"i do not think i can thank you enough for this."

"for what"

"for saving my life."

"i saved you?"

"if you had not pushed me down, i would have died"

"just tell me who are you"

"here take this card. i hope i can repay you the favour someday" he came closer to her and dropped a card on her lap.

she turned the card around in her fingers. unable to see in the dark.

"take care. i shall leave" with that he ran away across the roof.

she heard his footsteps moving down the stairs and then the door closing with a loud noise.

She stayed where she was. trying to process hat just happened. she was too frozen and numb to actually move. her first night in Canada and she was almost killed and then a stranger pops up from nowhere on her roof telling her he knows her.

way to go. she was clearly not looking towards her stay in this city. just this one incident was enough to kill all her motivation and strength inside. but to no avail she could not possibly go back.

so she stood back up on her feet gathering strength.

'this was clearly not meant for me. i am safe. it will all be alright, sleep will fix it all' she was trying her best to motivate herself.

she moved forward towards the door, her eyes now adjusted to darkness.

She was pretty startled by what happened, she went back downstairs and shoved that card in her purse hanging from her shoulder.

The lights came back on. She went to her room and fell on the bed falling asleep. Her thoughts circled around everything that happened;it felt as a dream. She decided to forget about it all.
