Chereads / A Mystery Of The Gunman / Chapter 5 - OFFICE

Chapter 5 - OFFICE

"you cant run away from me today ,i am gonna kill you" a growling voice behind her threatened her

she ran for her life as a dark shadow lurked behind her; she ran and ran until the red bricked alley come to an end. there was just one dim light hanging from the wall illuminating a small area the light fell on, the rest of the alley was dark. her back hits the wall as a pain shot through her shoulders, that were probably scraped by the rough wall behind her. a pained gasp escaped her lips as a shadow came near, towering over her in a black hoodie. his face hidden beneath it. his hand caught her neck trying to strangle her with all his strength. she started to gasp in pain trying to breath as her lungs ran out of air. his hand was choking her. she clawed at his wrist with her nails but it was no use.

The wind danced through the alley making the light bulb swing with a little hinging sound in protest. light fell on his face, highlighting his features. the bald head, the muscled arms, the fierce eyes, the clenched jaw. The features that were etched on her mind. the look that terrified her. it was none other than gunman.

she gasped. taking in a gulp of air as she sat up with a jerk. her eyes prying open. she sat there in a pool of sweat, her duvet w

rapped around her, as she took in the familiar settings of her room. she continuosly took huge gulps of air as if she really was being choked.

"oh god, thank goodness it was just a dream" she shook her head a strange fear settling deep in her heart.

A familiar tune of BTS 'DOPE" rang beside her, getting her attention. she turned towards it as the song continued playing. her eyes scanned the phone as she slid her fingers across the screen, dismissing her alarm.

She fell back on her bed with a thump. sleep was long gone.

"I have to go at Alex's office" she mumbled to herself remembering everything that happened a week back. after Alex had saved her that day he had been kind to offer her a job. she was taken aback but found it useless to refuse knowing she desperately needed another job. it was extremely foolish of her to throw back the half salary she got. but she did not regret her actions. the only problem was she was now almost broke.

she sighed. rolling out of bed to freshen up. She was not up for another bad impression. she was here to prove herself and she was going to do it.

she assessed herself in the full length mirror. she wore a peach, georgette pleated shirt that was tucked inside a blue pair of jeans at the waist. she wore a plain black shrug over her initial clothes that ruffled at the end near her knees. she wore black and white adidas sneakers, afraid of heels after that evening. mascara accentuated her eyelashes giving prominence to her doe like eyes. light coat of a nude lip gloss covered her pout lips. her oval face with sharp jawline were in full view as her hair were neatly tied in a high ponytail behind her that lightly grazed her shoulder. satisfied with her look she slung her primark beige purse over her shoulder.

she took a cab to the building she went to last week with Alex. She was still disheartened over losing her mothers car and that too Audi. that car got snatched faster than she got it.

"I hope everything turns out good" she prayed to herself

I went inside the building and went upstairs to the office but no one was there I checked my watch it was 7:40 am whoa I am early I thought to myself and went downstairs to the food court. it was eerily empty. only chairs and tables were placed there. the coffee shop was opening right now I went there and bought a coffee for myself and sat on the corner table, my mind wandered around why is that stupid gunman after me ughhhhh.

I don't even have anything. i left everything when i left Texas. literally I just have a normal flat a temporary job and my car is in the ocean now thanks to him. What does he wants.

the fresh warmth of lavish coffee entered her nose easing her muscles as she savored the smell. she took a sip of the coffee it was extremely hot it burned the tip of my tongue, sending tingles around her body as she pulled the cup away from her numbing sore tongue. she placed the cup down on the wooden table. and looked around people had started to file in, she bent her head down on her crossed forearms resting on the table. her eyelids fell heavy as she assed the people around her who either gave her a judgmental look or were too busy in their world to car about anyone else.

I don't know when i drifted to sleep but I snapped back to reality when a loud smash made its way to my ear, I rose my head up in panic to find the source of the souund. someone had dropped there mug and it had shattered into million pieces. she blinked rapidly to get rid of the tiredness in her eyes. and stretched yawning. she brought her wrist in her eye view checking the time on her watch it was 8:15. DAMN IT.

How did I fall asleep for so long I muttered to myself; I went to the bathroom checked my self in the mirror, my hairs were sticking out in different directions I had red lines on the sides of my face . I took out a small brush from my purse and brushed my hair until I stopped looking like i had come from the wild and then I applied the face powder on my face to hide the lines then I left and went to the office area.

I passed the receptionist and went inside the room that said only employees. People were busy doing there work on aligned desks it wasn't crowded like that office, I looked around there was no other room so I guessed it that Alex is not here I still checked around for my confirmation yep he wasn't there.

So I went back outside the room towards the receptionist.

"excuse me" i called her. She was dressed in pink nutton down shirt. her hair neatly placed in a high bun. she wore cat eyed classes on her nose bridge. her lips set in a firm smile.

She got up from behind the desk "yes how may I help you"

"I am here to see Alex rover my name is Sarah connor"

"Ok let me check" she pressed a number on the intercom someone spoke on the other side and she nodded in approval after listening to something as if the person could see her nod"

Then she turned to me "you may go up there than go straight forward into his office" and then she pointed towards the staircase at the end of the lobby.

When I reached up the stairs there were desks arranged on the sides moving forward was a meeting room that had transparent walls.

I went straight to the end I could see a room that had "boss" tag on it I knocked on the door and a deep voice answered "come in" I opened the door and went in the room.

It was very big room there was a desk in the middle and Alex was seated behind it- and there was a window behind him looking over to the massive buildings and offices in the city. on the side wall were shelves that had files and books of different colours lined inside and there was a brown wooden door in the corner of the opposite room,

"hi" i said confident not nervous at all

"you are late" he said without even looking up from the paperwork he was doing

"sorry" I whispered

"Its not very good to be late on your first day of work" he mocked and stood up from his chair. I looked up to him then his hand went to place his glasses from his nose bridge to his raven black gelled hair, flashing the high end rolex on his wrist. Alex rover was definitely a stylish man, from the expensive wrist watch to the thin golden bracelet on his other hand. He had a nave shirt over a silver vest, matching his grey pants. His feet were laced with expensive italian shoes while a no doubt designer perfume wafted from his clothing. he pressed the intercom, that was placed on the corner of his desk.

"Ellen come in" he said in the low smooth voice into the phone

i turned around on the click of door....
