Josh stiffened at Kyle's words.
"The increase of smell, jealousy, and aggression," Summer whispered. "The Red Moon."
Everyone froze. Colin and Lindsay shared a glance.
"No." Josh shook his head. All anger vanished. "Not her. She can't be. She's a vampire."
A vampire?
Josh's head rested on his thigh. Broad shoulders were now slouched.
Was Josh so disgusted by us?
My gaze went back to Courtney. She was staring in our direction. The guy no longer inches away from her face. Why would Josh react this way towards her? Courtney seemed like a level head vampire. Sure, she was prim and proper, but she was an okay girl.
"At least, she's not a foul-smelling human," Brian sympathize. He fanned his nose. "A very smelly human." Two fingers pinched his nose and the others stepped away from Summer.
Colin exhaled heavily. "What happened? Did you piss yourself?" His grip on Josh loosened. "You smell like horse shit."
"A week-old horse shit," Brian agreed, his voice muffled.
"Where's Eric?" Lindsay's eyes scanned the river bank; and so did Colin's.
Courtney walked up to us just in time to hear the question. "They went into the forest a while back."
"Why?" was Lindsay's other question.
"What'd you think?" Drew collapsed on the mat.
No matter how positive one's mind was, a couple slipping into a dark forest sent it straight to the gutter. I could bet they were fixing clothes, and —
Lindsay dashed into the forest with Colin not far behind her.
"Fuck!" Kyle shot to his feet and took off after them. "Amy," he called over his shoulder.
No one got a second to think before we ran after them. The party came to a thing of the past as the music faded and trees circled us. Night vision allowed us to see the forest as we would in daylight.
Colin froze, and everyone else stopped. Lindsay nowhere in sight. However, we found the notorious couple. Leaning against a tree, Sabrina was wrapped in Eric's arms while their hands and lips held a conversation worthy of privacy. It wasn't hard to notice Eric's pants was no longer buckled. His hands were hidden underneath Sabrina's skirt. Her legs wrapped around his waist. One of her hands was buried in his hair while the other was unseen.
The drumming of an accelerated heartbeat played in the night. Colin stepped forward.
Kyle placed a foot forward. "Colin? Don't."
The command was neglected as Colin pranced. With another curse, Kyle sprinted in front of him. Colin running at full speed hadn't seen Kyle's swift action. Instead of the two colliding, Kyle grabbed Colin by the neck and threw him on the ground. The loud thud accompanied by Colin's grunt echoed through the woods.
If that wasn't enough, Lindsay came into view. Her orange eyes sparkled beside the couple. When she charged Eric noticed a little too late but managed to push Sabrina out of the way. Both he and Lindsay tumbled on the ground. They stopped and she dashed to her feet. Her sole interest on a confused Sabrina.
Amy and Courtney ran off to save Sabrina from her new faith, but Lindsay was already changing. The sound of bones cracking rang out. There was no stopping her. Lindsay was already in rage and maybe heat. Before another solution came to mind a knock-out spell slipped past my lips. I wasn't sure it would work, knowing Lindsay was already uncontrollable. Regardless, panic took over and the words were out before I had a chance to hold them back.
Within the next second, Lindsay collapsed. All thoughts of what just happened escaped Eric as he rushed to her side. Burgundy-colored eyes darted to Sabrina with fangs out. "What the fuck did you do?"
Sabrina crawled backward, her heart attempting to speed from her chest.
Eric stood, one hand holding his loose pants. "I said, what did you do?" With each thunderous word, he took a step closer to her.
Sabrina's eyes widened. Her trembling fingers tried to fix her clothes while the horrible scene unfolded before her eyes. "I didn't…" she whispered.
Colin struggled under Kyle's grip. No doubt, strangling himself in the process. Yet, his blue eyes stayed on Sabrina. "Get off of me. If he fucking hurts her, I'm going to kill you."
It was almost a sight I couldn't bear to see. Colin at his weakest.
Brian rushed to do what Colin couldn't. Before Eric got the chance to do anything he would regret in the morning, Brian shoved him into a tree and pinned him there.
The situation seemed sorted.
Then, "When I say stop that's what I mean. Don't you fucking disobey my command again." One of Kyle's punches and Colin was out cold. "Josh?"
At Kyle's call, Josh was by his leader's side. No words were spoken but Josh nodded to the mental command. He took Colin from Kyle.
The next second, Kyle was in front of Sabrina. "I told you not to cause trouble."
Sabrina gasped and stood, dusting herself off. "I didn't—"
Another step was taken towards her. "Look, witch," Kyle enunciated. Annoyance dripped from each word spat. "You don't want to get on my wrong side. When I say don't cause trouble, I mean it." He walked closer to her and she stumbled back.
"Come on, Kyle. She didn't know," came from Brian behind them.
"How could she not know who her mate is?" Kyle spat.
"Not all of us knew until tonight," Brian murmured.
A few seconds ticked by then just like that, Kyle strolled away. Josh trailed behind him, carrying Colin.
Jake's palms connected. "Okay, guy. Let's call it a night, shall we?"
Several heads bobbed in agreement.
We all experienced a hell of a lot tonight. The Lord knew all this excitement was enough to cause sleepless nights.
We tackled the bodies on the other side of the river to get to our vehicles. Luckily, everyone was either too drunk or too preoccupied to realize the difference among us.
Brian escorted Eric to his car. Jake had decided to carry Sabrina home, not trusting her with Eric.
My eyes bulged when Brian's fist connected with Eric's jaw. Eric braced on his car for support. Instead of fighting back, he remained in place as Brian spat something. It didn't take long before his reprimanding was over, and he was in his car, driving out.
"There is no fucking way you're driving in my car smelling like a corpse." Brian walked up to us. Yellow eyes blazed through pink contacts.
Summer cowered back by the angered look on Brian's face.
"It's okay," Jake stepped in, leaning on his car door. "She can travel with us."
My gaze flashed to Sabrina. Her eyes studied her feet and she hugged herself.
"Maybe Sabrina can come with us," I spoke out. Brian's jaw ticked, but he said nothing. "I mean, if you're bringing Summer home then it would be a little while before Sabrina gets home. She'll get home faster if she drives with us."
Ashley frowned, but Jake smiled. "Okay, we can work with that."
The girls switched vehicles and we buckled in and drove out after Jake.
"Are you okay?" I glance in the rearview mirror at Sabrina.
Brian gripped the steering wheel and Sabrina shuffled in her seat. answered my question.
I tapped my fingers on the seat belt buckle. "Brian—"
"I don't want to talk about it." His gaze flickered in the rearview mirror at Sabrina before going back to the road.
A low sigh left my lips.
The rest of the ride remained quiet until Brain was parked outside of Sabrina's house. "Next time we invite you to join the Young Council you fucking stick to the rules."
Seriously?
I turned to face him. "Oh, my gosh! You're blaming her too."
Fury blazed in his eyes. "Eric left my side without permission because of her." A finger was thrown at Sabrina. "He never once did that before."
"Permission?" I laughed. "Is he your child?"
"No, but he's my responsibility. If he causes shit then it's my fault. And, I am not going to sit by while anyone destroys what I've worked so fucking hard to build." His gaze flashed to Sabrina still seated in the backseat. "Next time you do something like that, I won't stop Kyle."
At the mention of Kyle, she looked up from her fingers. "It won't happen again."
Then she left.
Ugh. What was Kyle going to do?
"Why do—"
"I'm not in the mood, Brianna." He started the vehicle and drove off. His feet never left the gas pedal.
It didn't take long for us to reach home. Brian grabbed his phone and exited the vehicle, leaving me behind. His fingers tapped on the screen before it was pressed against his ears. "Eric, you better fucking be home. I—"
The remaining of the sentence was lost when he entered the house.
Yep, this was going to keep me up tonight. This weekend was going to be a long one.
