We pull up in front of a large building, Hunter walks around to my side and helps me out of the passenger seat before handing his keys to the valet. As we make our way to the elevator Hunter wraps his arm tightly around me, protectively.
I'm curious why but when I look around the bottom floor is covered in men in business attire and they're all staring in our direction. They must know Hunter.
We step inside the elevator and I look over at him. "Why was everyone staring at you?" I ask curiously.
He laughs. "They weren't staring at me." Now it is my turn to laugh. "Right."
He grabs my face firmly in his large hands as we ascend the long ride to the top floor of the building. "See, that's what's going to get you in trouble. You don't know when men are flirting with you." He smirks before he plants a kiss on my neck. The soreness makes me jump and I realize I forgot to cover use make up on the mark.
"I forgot to cover my hickey!" I shriek, embarrassed. He shrugs before he pulls the rest of my hair off of my neck, it cascades down my back as he admires his mark he left on me.
"I would have wiped off any make-up you put on it." His voice is stern and authoritative and it makes me gulp.
Before I can say anything the elevator dings and the doors slide open bringing us into a modern style floor. A woman sits at the front desk, a huge white bright smile plastered on her face when she sees Hunter.
"Mr Stone." She says and as she looks over to me, I return her polite smile. I look at Hunter and his demeanour has changed, his face speaks business as he looks around at all of the people busy working.
We walk over to the counter and Hunter introduces me to the woman. Her name is Susan.
"Would you like some water?" She asks with a smile. I shake my head in a polite manner, "I'm okay, thank you though," I say, not wanting to be a bother but I'm really thirsty.
Hunter places his hand on her desk. "She'll have a water with lemon," he says to her before he guides me towards the back of the room, pressing his warm hand into the small of my back.
As we walk towards what I assume is his office everyone addresses him formally. I noticed the way his voice sounds different when he talks to other people, it's deeper more serious. When he opens the doors glass walls adorn the outer area making a beautiful view of the city. A deep oak door and windows with blinds hide his office from the rest of the floor. It's very cosy.
I gesture around the room, "How is everything so established? I thought you just got this place." I ask. He walks around his dark oak desk and sits on the large leather chair.
I stand awkwardly in the middle of the room looking at all of the awards that are framed on the wall to the right of me. He runs a hand in the air, gesturing to the furniture. "This was the same set up I had when I went to Stanford and worked in the city, we just moved locations and most of the employees came with me." He says with a smile.
He brings his hand up and beckons me to him. "Come." He says as he points to his lap. I blush as I nervously walk over and sit down. He twirls my hair as we sit in the chair.
"We won't be here long, I just need to send some paperwork to clients and we will head out." As he begins to turn on the computer Susan walks in and her bright smile fades.
I quickly go to stand up but he pulls me back down against him. "Why didn't you knock?" He scoffs. "I'm sorry sir." she sets the glass down in front of me before quickly walking out of the room. I look over at him.
"Isn't it unprofessional for me to be on your lap?" I ask, stunned. "No, I'm the boss and I pay their wages. It was unprofessional for her to barge in here like that." His tone filled with disgust. I wonder why she looked so sad when she saw us but I leave it alone.
He dabbles on the computer as I sit on his lap, feeling very comfortable doing this which surprises me. Every once in a while, he kisses my shoulder and it makes me giggle. I scribble a few material combinations down, trying to perfect some more advanced designs takes a lot of trial and error. "All done." He smiles as he turns off the monitor on the screen.
I raise my brow, "Really? We've only been here for like twenty minutes." He smiles.
"Perks of being the boss." He says. On our way out I see the bathroom and trail off to check my dress and hair. As I walk in I see Susan washing her hands.
Her face falls when she sees me and I wonder what's wrong.
I go to the sink next to her and look at myself in the mirror. I can't help but compare myself to Susan, she has long blonde curls cascading down her back. Her golden locks are styled perfectly and her make up is beautiful.
She is Hunter's type, probably. My concerns are answered when she turns to me with a scowl, a drastic change to her bright smile from earlier. She crosses her arms out in front of her. "You're not special, you know?" She looks at me in disgust as she speaks and I take a step back, stunned by her cruel words and confused at the same time. "Excuse me?" I say, hoping I heard her wrong.
She just laughs as she looks me up and down.
"He'll be over you in a week. I mean look at you."
"Something must be wrong with you, you must be sick. How dare you open your mouth to utter such words to me" I say in a quiet voice, trying to relax the anger building inside me. She laughs again, taking a step toward me. "Hunter and I... we have fun, that's why I followed him to Neithines to work for him. I know what he likes and he doesn't need some young girl taking my place."
She's about to exit the bathroom as I drag her back in." Young girl? who the fuck are you calling a young girl? you may be a few years older than me and more established in your career, but so what? Hunter and I are something special so get over it." I begin to leave but she pulls me back by my hair. That's when I lose it.
I kick her in her guts so she releases my hair. while she rolls on the ground frantically, I stand her up by her hair and hit her headfirst against the wall. She begins to scream in pain and there's blood everywhere. Just as I'm about to pick her up again, Hunter runs into the bathroom.
"Esme, what are you doing?" he drags me out of the bathroom. "someone should take Susan to the hospital now"
"Esme, what the hell is wrong with you? do you want to kill her? He asks me with much concern laced in his voice.
I just look at him and start running, down the stairs instead of taking the elevator. I hear him shout my name from behind but I just keep running.
I stop at a deserted street and pick up my phone, I hope he'll pick
"Alec please I need a lot now, I'll meet you at the usual spot in five," I say in a rush
"At your service milady"
