Chapter 2 - Stupid things we do

Watching him that day play lacrosse so enthusiastically and effortlessly- with a glimpse of his abs, talk with friends, made me admire him. I also graduated and became a freshman at Brice Worth while he was a sophomore and watching him everyday made me like him the more and till now, I still like him.

But the fucking school schedule never allowed me get a chance to say a freaking 'hi' to him. So we never crossed paths, even after I tried so many times– which convinced Jenny that I am very insane. And I was never going to say just 'hi', I needed to do something that will make him remember me forever.

I finally stop in front of his locker and I can't help but smile at the number—

093.

Even his number is beautiful.

I bend down, reaching into the duffel bag whilst setting the flashlight down to face the ceiling. I pull out the perfectly enveloped letter I have written, pick the lock on his locker after a long minute and place it inside along with the brand new lacrosse stick I got him after I heard his broke. I finally put the free ticket to butter & burgers (his favorite) which I so respectfully earned by crying in front of the managers.

Once I finish with the presents, I carefully close the locker up causing a loud bang to echo down the hallway and I smile at his locker.

"I hope you have a lovely birthday, Adrian, you deserve it."

Then a thought pops into my head and I decide to put it into manifestation. I lean forward and place a kiss on his locker then giggle loudly.

It is happening! Friday, 16th of October, 2020 the day Adrian and Kinsley began.

My plan's quite simple– in a few hours when Adrian opens up his locker, he'll find the most precious gift ever and he'll also ask who was so caring enough to do this for him. And I'll be there just in time to say, "It's me." Then he'll set eyes on me for the first time; want to hang out with me, we'll go on dates, he'll fall in love with me, we'll get married, have kids and grow old together. – The perfect plan.

My phone buzzes and with the smile not leaving my face, I reach for it.

Jen: What's going on Kinsley? It's past 10 minutes, are you okay?

I quickly text her back: I'm coming already, your royal worry wart— ahem, your royal highness.

I chuckle at the mental image of her rolling her eyes at my text and—

Suddenly, the lights turn on.

The freaking goddamn school lights turn on!

White lights illuminating every single corner of the hallway and I feel my pulse rising as lights come into my vision.

Fuck.

I can't move, even if I hate to admit it, I'm scared; have I been caught? or I guess Jenny was right, there were people as crazy as us who will sneak into the school at night or worse— serial killers. That thought, makes me choke in fear. Who in their right minds would come to school at this hour? I'm doomed.

My phone buzzes and I quickly pull it out, still standing in front of Adrian's locker.

Jen: What just happened?! Why did the lights turn on?

Jen: Are you okay? What's happening?

The phone continues buzzing with messages from Jenny but I'm in too much shock to move when I hear a voice behind me.

"What the hell are you doing?"

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" The male voice behind me asks again.

I stay rooted in my spot, not uttering a single word or making any attempt to run for my dear life as I shut my eyes for a second and curse under my breath.

Damn it!

I can't believe I actually got caught and worse, it isn't even a voice I recognize, not our school's principal, neither is it a teacher's voice. It sounds foreign, maybe the voice of robbers or serial killers but now that I think of it, it sounds more like a teenage boy's voice.

Taking one last breath and finding the courage to scold this unknown asshole who is currently ruining my love business.

I turn around slowly, putting on a confident look to hide my fear and I'm met with a tall, slim, slightly muscular guy with dark blonde hair sticking out of his black beanie hat, his skin's so pale- not a usual sight in New Oleen. His hands tucked into light blue jeans, dark red shirt on giving him the typical cool guy look but there's an angry scowl on his face which just pisses me off. I mean, I'm supposed to be the one with the angry scowl since I'm being interrupted. I have absolutely not a single idea who he is and I am not at all interested.

"Who the fuck are you?" I ask out of annoyance, folding my arms and standing at my full 167cm height to show him I am not to be messed with.

He just stares at me, not moved by my attitude. He walks a little closer to me, hands still comfortably resting in his pockets.

"I asked you a question." He says as he eyes me up and down in my totally black attire– tight black jeans, big black hoodie and black gloves then eyes the locker behind me. "What are you doing?"

I suddenly feel cautious. He doesn't look like someone who wants to rob or vandalize the school, doesn't look like a criminal courtesy of his dressing, if one thinks about it, I'm actually the one dressed like a criminal and the fact that I don't know him and never seen him before, brings questions into my mind.

I eye the dark blue locker behind me and look back at the guy who hasn't taken his straight, serious gaze off me. "Nothing." I answer. "I'll be leaving."

I turn away from him, grab my duffel bag and begin walking away but stop when he calls out—

"Not so fast."

I huff and turn around to glare at him. "It's none of your goddamn business what I was doing." I spat and then I sigh, feeling a headache coming on. "Look, I don't know who you are or how you got into the school or what you want to do and I don't care, so don't meddle into my business and let's act like we never saw each other," I pause when the freak ass in front of me, smirks. "I'll be leaving first."

I begin walking again but he stops me. "I said not so fast, Kinsley."

I will have continued walking but, he knows my effing name!

I immediately spin around with my eyes wide in shock, causing my tied up blonde hair to fall down reaching past my shoulders and I swear for a moment his eyes drifts as he watches my hair but he quickly swallows and turns back to the locker.

He lifts his arm up, forms a fist and hits Adrian's locker causing me to jump about a feet in the air as a loud sound echoes through the whole school, pretty sure Jenny heard it.

The locker door opens up instantly and I notice a dent on it.

"What the hell!" I scream at him, ignoring the panging in my head.

He picks out the lacrosse stick which had been laying peacefully and moves it around, checking every part of it, clearly pretending he is fascinated by it.

"You know Kinsley, I never saw you as one of those girls crazy about this scumbag."

Scumbag. Scumbag? He dares call Adrian a scumbag?

"Look here, freak ass, I don't know how you know my name but just get lost," I lift up a hand letting my palm face him. "I'm warning you. Before I lose myself."

He stares at me for a second and then chuckles, his head shaking slightly from the action, a faint little annoying dimple comes into sight on his left cheek.

I scoff. "You think that's funny?"

His laughter dies down as he looks back at the lacrosse stick once more. "He doesn't deserve this." He whispers and I frown. He looks back at me, "You shouldn't be doing this. You should be at home, resting. Instead you're wasting time on this douche." His voice gets angry at the end and he lifts up a knee and breaks the stick into two parts.

My eyes widen and my mouth drops open in shock. What the… "Dude!" I yell. Right at this moment, I can feel my blood rushing. "Oh you have no idea who you just freaking messed with!" I scream angrily at the top of my voice.

"Oh I know who I messed with. The infamous sophomore Kinsley Bardot, does whatever she wants."

For some reason, the anger dies down. He knows me. Now I'm curious.

"H-how do you…" I stutter. I stare at him for a moment, he looks around my age, so I'm guessing he's still in high school but it's a school night, why is he here? I've never seen him before so how does he know me? "You don't even go to this school, how do you know so much about me? What are you even doing here?"

He smirks at me. "I thought you didn't care about what I was doing?"

I open my mouth to make a comeback but I can't. First in history.

He turns away from me and looks into the opened locker and pulls out the enveloped letter which also had the free ticket inside.

"I don't get why you're doing this. But just leave that there." I say, moving forward to try and snatch the most important present from him.
