(Camden)
Her hand came across my knee, and I felt her slip into a light seep. Looking down at the little ring on her finger I felt a flare of pride. The engraving was the hardest part, she would see her initials and mine. A subtle brag to anyone who would ask about it, that she was mine. But she wasn't. It hadn't been right to put my initials on the ring, but Adler had pushed the idea. He wanted something on her to mark her, and if it was only tiny initials on a ring then so be it. The ring shown in the low light and I closed my hand over hers. I would protect her, I hadn't been able to promise Michael that I wouldn't kill his son, but he knew well enough that I would have no choice if he came at Harper with intent to kill.
It would be him or Harper...and I choose Harper. Every time. Without hesitation.
She cuddled her head closer to me kicking her legs up over my one knee. I tightened my arm around her and her mother turned around in the front seat.
