I shrug off that question for a short while, as I am supposed to be getting ready for school.
The journey to the school building is not eventful. There is the normal feeling of walking into the building, and being greeted by some friends.
"Kuro! There you are. I thought you were going to be late to school!" My friend Rico exclaims. (≧∇≦)
"Ah. I was on the phone to my mother, that's all." I replied monotonously. (。◝‿◜。)
"I see. Is everything okay?" She asks with slight concern. (≧∇≦)
"Everything's alright." I reply with a small smile. (。◝‿◜。)
"Phew! Let's make this day a good one!" She lights back up and pulls me into a strangling hug. (≧∇≦)
It relieves me to know that I have such caring friends. They have been here for me since before I can remember, and they have never left me in my life. Even through the toughest times, they showed patience and care for me. I will forever be grateful for my friends.
I sit down in my usual place inside the classroom, and await the teacher's instructions.
The teacher talks about random irrelevant topics, my mind rejects all the words being said and my mind is taken elsewhere. My mind thinks of the question previously asked by my mother. The leader wants to declare war on the world, but why? Can't people see that war and conflict is futile? Their efforts are in vain. Defense is one thing, but killing innocent bystanders is another.
My thought process is interrupted by an interesting question asked by a classmate.
"But, miss, can global warming be stopped?" The classmate asks.
I cannot get enough of questions such as this question. The number of perspectives on that question are infinite, whether they be optimistic, realistic or pessimistic, the many different angles of viewing are incredible.
"Global warming is inevitable, neither you nor I can stop it, the world is beyond help. If we stop one thing another thing will-" I begin to say. (。◝‿◜。)
"Kuro, save your debating for another time. We don't need opinions." My teacher interrupts. (`0´)
I believe us, as children of society, would learn far more from sharing knowledge with each other rather than have the knowledge handed to us on a silver platter. The infant does not learn how to eat with cutlery if the mother spoon feeds them.
"Apologies." I bow my head. (。◝‿◜。)
Being rude to an adult is considered a sin of society. If you are young, and you talk to an adult, you must be careful as they are older than you and deserve more respect than you.
But that is wrong. So many people in this world fight for equality, many ignorant people claim the world has equality, however the equality between "children" and "adults" is not apparent. "Adults" will constantly look down on or maybe even pity the "children".
A child cannot think for themselves, a child cannot develop an opinion, a child does not have valid arguments and a child has less experience than an adult.
Well. Because children cannot have valid opinions, adults don't stop and ask themselves "what do children think of us?".
Adults try so hard to exercise authority over children. Creating rules that children have no choice but to follow, they get so excited about having power, sometimes they lose themselves and all their morals.
The faint chuckles and giggles make their way to my ear, I stare at the culprit with a dead expression.
"Hah. Kuro, you're stupid." The owner of the voice says in a mocking tone. ( ᓀ ‸ ᓂ )
"I'd like to see you try and argue global warming," I reply back. (。◝‿◜。)
When you are in school, no one is on your side. Every person for themselves.
"When am I ever going to need to know all this when I'm older?" The voice asks me. ( ᓀ ‸ ᓂ )
Everybody should treasure knowledge, whether it be useless or useful, to know everything is a huge achievement.
Yet, why does no one around me view this knowledge like valuable treasure from the deep sea? Knowledge should be accepted.
"Knowledge about global warming is something worth knowing." I calmly state. (。◝‿◜。)
"There's no way I'm gonna learn about some lame world problem, it's not going to do anything to my life." The voice refused. ( ᓀ ‸ ᓂ )
"This conversation is not going to do anything to my life, yet I'm still participating in it." I reply calmly. (。◝‿◜。)
"Can't you two take your little fight outside of school? You're both wasting time." The teacher interrupts. (`0´)
"Ah, I'm sorry, miss." I apologize. (。◝‿◜。)
"Tch. Children." The teacher mutters underneath her breath. (`0´)
I stare at the teacher like a guard staring at a prisoner.
This level of ignorance can become unbearable, people who refuse to learn about the world, deny that the problems even exist. Can people be so oblivious? However, their ignorance is not my problem, their ignorance does not bother me in any way.
The bell rings for the next lesson, however I am in too deep thought to notice. I stare outside the window for the longest time.
My teacher walks up to my desk and slams her hands against the table. "Kuro. Did you not hear the bell? It's your next lesson." (`0´)
I stare at her and close my eyes calmly. I let out a small nod and grab my possessions for the next lesson.
I arrive late to the lesson, the teacher says nothing and points to my seat. I sit down.
"Looks like the loner is late to her next lesson!" The voice from before exclaims. ( ᓀ ‸ ᓂ )
I ignore the comment and begin to take out a pencil and rubber from my schoolbag. I decide to start sketching on a spare piece of paper.
After some time my masterpiece is completed.
"One second, I must leave the classroom to go to the toilet, please don't misbehave." My teacher suddenly bursts.
He leaves the room and shuts the door behind him rapidly.
The person whom the voice belongs to strides up to my desk, grabs the drawing from my desk and holds it up for the class to witness.
"Kuro, what is this?" They ask. ( ᓀ ‸ ᓂ )
"A character from my favourite video game." I bluntly reply. (。◝‿◜。)
"You play video games? That's lame. Don't you have anything better to do?" ( ᓀ ‸ ᓂ )
Society has this vision on what the ideal person is, and everybody wants to become that ideal person. They end up losing themselves, and lose all their morals. Things such as playing video games are seen as "lame" and "pathetic". Everybody wants to become cool and accepted by other people, naturally they will not do things such as play video games or writing a novel, or even reading one.
