Chereads / Little Sparrow / Chapter 56 - Art Exhibit

Chapter 56 - Art Exhibit

I walk through the crowded house. It's filled with sweaty, drunk teenagers like any other highschool party. Someone at school decided to throw a party this weekend and Chester told me to meet him here. The problem is that now I can't find him.

I spot Sky sitting on a couch and rush over to her. She greets me with a smile when she sees me.

"Hey, I didn't know you were coming," Sky says when I sit down next to her.

"I wasn't going to, but Chester told me to come. Do you know where he is?" Sky stands up and grabs my hand for me to stand up with her.

"He's upstairs setting up a special surprise. I'll show you the way." I looked at her confused, but she ignores it.

Why would Chester set me up a surprise in some random persons house? What is this surprise?

I climb up the stairs behind Sky as she leads me to a room. She stops in front of a brown, wooden door.

"Go ahead and open the door," she tells me. I don't know what to expect. I place my hand on the knob and turn it. I open the door, but when I see what's going on inside the room, I pause.

Chester is sitting on the bed, kissing a girl. I pause in shock, not knowing what to say.

"Chester, what are you doing," I scream out at him. He looks up at me with a smirk, but goes back to kissing the girl. I look back at Sky, but she doesn't seem to be surprised at seeing Chester kissing another girl.

I can feel what's left of my heart breaking. My eyes burn with unshed tears. I can't watch this anymore.

I turn around to run out of the room and far away from here, but Sky pushes me back into the room and closes the door behind her.

"There's no running out now, Spencer," I hear another voice say. I turn and see the twins, Hope, Parker, and Daniel in the room with us. "Why don't you sit back and watch," Alexander asks me, but it's more of a demand.

They all look at me with joy as I suffer from heartbreak from finding my boyfriend cheating on me. They all knew he was cheating on me and didn't tell me. They all lied to my face and are here to see me wither in pain.

"No, I'm not staying here. We're done Chester. I'm done with all of you," I yell at all of them. They all laugh as I lose my sanity.

"Why don't you just stay and watch," Chester says, kissing down the girl's neck. What the hell is happening? He seems so cold and doesn't care that he's hurting me.

"I'm not sitting here and watching, you disgusting freak." I try to open the door, but it's locked. I'm pulled back by Daniel and thrown down onto a chair. Alexandra and Hope come over with ropes. I try to fight back, but they tie me onto the chair.

"We want to see you cry, Spencer," Hope tells me and Parker laughs. How could they be so cruel?

"You need to learn a lesson, Spencer," Chester tells me as the girl kisses behind his ear. I can now recognize the girl as Jamie.

"Tell her what lesson she needs to learn. She seems confused. The poor girl," Jamie cooes into Chester's ear and they all laugh. My chest is burning from all this pain of betrayal. I look at the cold Chester, wondering what I had done to deserve this.

"You need to understand that you're replaceable, Spencer," Chester says.

"You're nothing special," Jamie says after him.

"You're not wanted," Hope whispers in my ear. I couldn't help, but choke up a sob. Parker stays in the background, recording my torment and humiliation.

"Stop saying that. You don't mean it," I yell at them, but it's like they can't hear me. I close my eyes. This can't be real.

"You don't want to accept it, but you'll realize it soon. You're worthless and you're just a doormat for everyone to step on," I hear the final line from Daniel and scream, the rest of my sanity gone.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

"Wake up, Spencer! It's just a dream." I'm shocked out of my sleep from Grant yelling in my ear. My bed is wet from sweat and I focus on catching my breath.

"Are you ok now, Spencer," little Grant asks me, sitting on the bed with me and holding me in a hug. I look around to see I'm just in my room. Not at a party.

"Yeah. It was just a bad dream. Thank you for waking me up."

"By the way. It's Saturday and David is waiting for you downstairs for your art exhibit thing," Grant informs me.

"You can go downstairs and tell him I'll be down shortly. I'm going to get ready." Grant runs out of my room and I get off my bed to take a shower.

A couple of days have passed since our game against Rooklyn. Since that day, I haven't been able to shake off this weird feeling or stop having nightmares. I don't know what it is yet, but I can feel something bad coming my way.

After we won the game, Sky promised we could meet her boyfriend next week Saturday. We were going to meet him at some diner. I tried to ask more information about him, but she said we should just wait and see, so it could be a surprise.

I could tell she was excited to finally have someone that she could trust and be in an intimate relationship with without her best friend breaking it up, but I can't help feeling fishy about it.

I freshen myself up for an important day. David and I have worked hard to complete our project and it looks great. I'm really proud of it and I hope the judges can see the message we're trying to send. I won't let anything bring down my mood. I'm going to stay positive.

After throwing on a jacket, I march downstairs. David is talking to Frank while everyone is scattered around the house.

"Are you ready to go," David asks me when he sees me. I nod my head.

"We'll meet you guys there. Good luck," my mother tells us and everyone tells us bye.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

"When are they coming over to view ours," David asks me. He's pacing back and forth nervously. We're at the art exhibit standing by our art work. The judges travel to each competitors art work and examine it for a few minutes. They ask the artists questions about it and travel on to the next duo. There's probably about fifty groups, but they're only giving out prizes to the top six.

"I think we're number 25. They're on number 13. It could take them a while to get to us," I tell David. It doesn't seem to calm him down.

"We should check to see if there's anything we need to fix."

"Calm down, David. Don't be stupid. Our work is great and if you try to do anything now, you'll risk messing it up. Everything is perfect. There's nothing to fix," I tell him, stopping his pacing. "Just breathe."

The families of the competitors can also walk around to view the art. The exhibit is open to the public, so anyone can come and view.

I look around, trying to find my family. I don't think they've gotten here yet. A smile spreads on my face when I see Chester making his way into the exhibit. I wave my hands in the air to catch his attention. When he see me he walks over.

"I'm going to go find my family," David tell me and walks off in the opposite direction.

"Hey, Sparrow. Have the judges seen your art yet. It looks great. I know you guys are going to win," Chester says, pulling me into a hug.

"No, they haven't. Thank you for coming and supporting me," I answer him, trying to reach him on my tippy toes for a kiss. My nightmare from earlier has shaken me up a bit and I can't help, but try to gain assurance from Chester that he doesn't think that way of me.

He answers my desperation by placing his lips on mine. I sink deep into the kiss, asking Chester for more. He pulls away as I try to deepen the kiss.

"Are you okay," he asks me with worry.

"Yeah, of course. I've just missed you, a lot." I pull him back into the kiss, but he pulls away again.

"Are you sure," he uses a serious tone.

"Yes," I answer him again. David comes back, followed by people I believe are his family. I think the man is his father, the lady is his mother, and the little girl he's holding by the hand is his sister. They all look very identical to each other.

"Spencer, meet my parents and my little sister," David says motioning to all of them. "Mom, dad, and Kelly, meet Spencer."

"Hello, nice to meet you all. David is the best partner I could ask for," I tell them and they greet me in a friendly manner as well. I feel a buzzing come from my pocket and pull out my phone.

Hope is calling me.

I answer the phone, a little confused. I haven't had a proper conversation with her all week.

"Spencer," I hear her say from the other side of the phone through a sob.

"Hey, Hope. What's wrong?" Chester looks over at me when he hears my worried tone. He mouths asking me if Hope is ok and I shrug my shoulders.

"I need you. Please tell me you can come and I'm not just wasting my time. I know I've been acting like a bitch these past two weeks and I'm sorry. I really need your help." She sounds like she's pleading.

I look back over at Chester whose waiting for me to tell him what's going on. I can't leave right now. The judges have to see both David and I to judge the art. David would be so mad at me if I leave.

"Please. I'm begging you," I hear Hope say, going into full on cries of pain and agony. I breathe out a sigh, deciding that it would be worst to leave Hope to deal with her problems on her own. I know I'll regret it later if I decide to stay and ignore her cries for help.

"David, I'm so sorry. I have to go," I tell him. He looks over at me like I just said his monkey died.

"What? What do you mean you have to go?"

"It's that friend I told you about. They're asking for my help now," I tell him. He knows how frustrated I've been about this and not knowing how I could help Hope. He's the one that told me I should wait from her to come to me and ask for help.

He nods his head in understanding.

"Okay. If they really need you, then go. I understand. I'll explain to the judges. Let's hope they'll be able to see our hard work and teamwork through our art."

"Thank you, David. You don't understand how much I appreciate this. You've got this. You're going to win this." I give him a quick hug to show my gratitude.

"Hope, I'm on my way," I tell her and hang up.

"I'm going with you," Chester says and follows me out of the exhibit.
