Chapter 13 - Ghost

Music recomendation: Love Is Noise - The Verve.

I stopped under the marquee of an ice cream shop that was closed, my brain was trying to process what had happened. What are the chances that I would find him there, so much later and thousands miles away. Why did I react that way? What I would say to Vincenzo, what would he think? My God, Vincenzo!

I was being flooded by an avalanche of feelings, right now that everything was going well. How is it possible that someone is so unlucky? When I was beginning to believe that things would finally start to be okay and to work out, that I had finally overcome it. This bastard appears to tear down all the walls that I built around the past. Like a bloody ghost, haunting me.

Tears were streaming down my face in the same way that the rain that had already increased considerably was streaming down the street. I had to compose myself, go back and speak to Vincenzo. Under the marquee I was in, a huge puddle of water formed and I was practically isolated. Caught in a sea of tears, rain and confusion.

I looked at my feet, at the beautiful pair of Louboutin that I decided to debut that day when I felt so confident, so powerful and that nothing could shake me but then he appeared.

"Marina, you can't go crazy again." - I repeated to myself over and over again. Oh my God how I hated him!

A voice called me back to reality and for a second I thought my conscience was being projected out of my head to give me a deserved slap in the face.

- Marina!

But it was not the voice of my conscience, it was Vincenzo's voice shouting from across the street with the car door open and an expression that mixed fury and despair.

- Marina, get in the car. - he said shouting, while waving his hand for me to go to him.

I can't explain how I felt when I saw him like that. It was a desperate tranquility. And when I tried to take the first step I saw that the puddle had increased. Damn it!

- What are you waiting for? Andiamo! - He insisted.

I tried to take a step forward but something stopped me as I saw my reflection in that puddle of water that was rising around my feet. I couldn't move, just cry. Vincenzo was saying angry words as he slammed the car door and walked under the heavy rain towards me. He looked furious, which made him even more beautiful. My heart beat faster and faster as he approached. Until he was a foot away from me, saying words in Italian that I couldn't identify.

He was completely soaked, his dark blue pants were so soaked that it looked black and the white shirt he wore was stuck to his skin from the rain. He stopped for a moment in front of me while running his hands through his hair several times, trying to brush away a lock that insisted on falling on his face.

He no longer said a word but the way he looked at me, words were not necessary. It was as if he could see into my soul. I took a step to the side when a small wave formed after the step he took towards me. And in the blink of an eye I was already in your arms. He lifted me up as if he were lifting a pillow, we got to the car faster than I expected and he put me back down so he could open the door for me. I wanted to apologize, I had to say something.

- Vincenzo, I ...

My sentence was interrupted when he suddenly turned to me in a way that I couldn't identify his expressions. His pupil was so dilated that I could no longer see the greenish color of his eyes. He said nothing and all I could hear was the sound of the rain muffled by his intense breathing. His warm hand caressed my face for a fraction of a second before grabbing the back of my neck and pulling me closer. Enzo looked me in the eyes for two seconds and our lips finally met. I heard the hollow sound of the car door slamming and then felt the warmth of his arm around my waist. He pulled me closer, completely ignoring the law of physics that states that two bodies cannot occupy the same space at the same time and it was only then that I realized that he had turned me around when I felt all the weight of his big, hot body pressing on me against the car.

Our kiss was so intense, full of hunger and passion that I could hardly breathe. Our languages explored as if we were searching for answers even though we didn't even know the questions.

- Sono pazza di te.

"I'm crazy for you." - he whispered in my ear before lightly biting my earlobe. I groaned at the feeling of pleasure that was growing inside of me.

I can't say how long we kissed, everything seemed to be happening in an alternate reality and I swear I could feel the rain falling in slow motion. Suddenly he moved away from me, making me feel empty instantly.

- Get in the car. - he whispered in my ear and I obeyed him.

He accelerated taking us away, the silence inside the car was so intense that the noise of my teeth chattering from the cold was almost deafening. Enzo reached behind him and took his jacket, then handed it to me.

- Here, put this on. - he said handing me his jacket. I took it and then put it on, the smell of his perfume was impregnated in the fabric and I started to come up with crazy plans to never have to return it to him again.

- Is it better? - Enzo interrupted my thoughts, making me look at him, which was just as good. He was devastatingly sexy, his hair wet and disheveled, his strong arm, slightly taut as he held the steering wheel and his corner smile as he looked at me. I was extremely wet.

- Yes, thank you!

We arrived at the hotel and went straight up to our floor by the garage elevator, it was a long and short trip at the same time. We didn't say a word but my thoughts screamed so loudly inside my head that I could have sworn he could hear them, every time our eyes met, his dangerous eyes looked like they were going to devour me. My brain was still working again after that kiss.

When the elevator arrived, we walked towards our rooms, I was shaking while looking for the room card in my bag and when I turned around, he was leaning against the wall of the corridor, with a hungry look staring at me.

- What is it? - I said before wondering if this was really the best choice of words.

- I wish you could see yourself now. - He said, moving away from the wall.

- I know I must be a disaster, my hair does not look well wet and I'm sure my makeup must be all smudged. If only that damn card worked, I could do something about my deplorable state. - I huffed, throwing my hands up. - The damn door won't open. - I completed still trying to open the door.

- If by disaster you mean fucking sexy, I'll have to agree with every word. - Enzo whispered in my ear as he took the card from my hand. - Let me try. - he concluded.

He was already close enough that his scent and the breath in my ear made my brain stop thinking coherently, I jumped when I felt his body heat touching my back. Fuck. We hadn't kissed long ago and I wanted him again. But I was not good at reasoning about pressure. I never was.

- I think I should go to the reception to ask for a new card. - I said turning to him, thinking that my movement would cut our contact. But he didn't move.

- Sure, I'll accompany you. - He said, staring at me without moving from the place, with a hand resting on the doorframe, just above my head. His face inches from mine, close enough that I could see his dilated pupils again and feel the warmth of his breath almost merge with mine, making my heart miss a beat.

- Let's go? - I said, on the way to the hotel reception.

- Buonasera signor Vicenzo, signorina Fio... Marina. Sorry, I almost mistook your name. - said the receptionist.

- Good night Dante, no problem. You can call me Nina. - I replied, forcing my eyes to read the name on his badge, I thought I would be polite the same way he was for remembering our names among so many guests.

- Holy fuck. - Enzo swore in a low, almost inaudible tone, apparently irritated.

- How can I help you? Something about opening some bedroom door again, I wonder? - asked the receptionist with a strange smile on his face.

- Yes, my room's door doesn't open. - I answered. But what did he mean by "again"?

Enzo scratched his head nervously while avoiding Dante's gaze.

- I apologize for the inconvenience, unfortunately we had a little problem on the eleventh floor - replied Dante calmly.

- No problem, just give me a new card. - I answered.

- Unfortunately it will not be possible for you to return to that room. - he replied, looking directly at Enzo.

Enzo turned around completely upset, shooting poor Dante with his eyes, and I didn't understand his irritation. We would solve the problem soon.

- There was a problem with the plumbing on the eleventh floor, causing it to have to be vacated. We had to relocate all guests to other floors. - concluded the receptionist.

- Wow, what a pity. So, you just have to give us the keys to our new rooms. - I said trying to break the tense atmosphere and hoping that we could end that shitty situation soon. I needed a shower and maybe, take care of the "wet situation" between my legs. Damn it. I had a day full of emotions and that making out in the rain had made me extremely horny.

- This is another situation, the hotel is full due to the events in the city and unfortunately we will only have one master suite available. - replied the man.

Enzo froze and I could see a nervous smile draw his lips before he started to whisper bad words.

- We'll handle that. - I said, making Dante and Enzo stop staring at each other and look at me both at the same time. Those words came out of my mouth without me thinking about what they really meant, Vincenzo and I would share a room. But as I said, I didn't know how to think under pressure.

- Signorina? - said Dante.

Enzo kept staring at me with a look that mixed surprise and excitement.

- The thing is, we had a very tiring and emotional day. I really need a hot shower and I'm fucking hungry. Give us the key and we'll handle that. - I said, extending my hand towards Dante.

- You heard the woman. - Enzo told to Dante that now, was looking at him with a smile.

- I apologize for the inconvenience, tomorrow everything will be back to normal. Tonight's stay and room service will be courtesy of the hotel. You two can go to your room and we will send your luggage right after. - Dante concluded, handing me the keys. I thanked him and turned to head towards the elevator. Enzo was coming right after me.
