I think I screamed.
I saw Zorack fall to the injured floor and it was like something awoke in me. I still tried to fight to get to him as those things invaded the Spartackus with their strange weapons and it was useless. I would step back, forced.
They argued in a language I didn't know. And it didn't matter. It was the end. We were going to die and I started to give in to panic.
"Take a deep breath. And stay calm. Just don't say anything."
The image came clear in my head and his voice. I saw Zorack really as he was. Alien. It was as if the truth was always there in my mind and I refused to accept it. I had seen what wanted. His warning for me to be quiet was too clear.
Ok, I'm going to freak out! My boyfriend is really an alien! How do you do that? How is it in my mind?
Genetic compatibility and breeding programs after Édrin was conquered and we escaped. And as far as I know, according to the laws of your planet, he would be more of a husband.
"You are my female. Just for the Heavens, be quiet! The neurotransmitter I applied to you is not going to let Ravenack find out who it is, Cailín. Just Breathe."
Breathing? As if it were that easy! Neurotransmitter ?? Had he applied a deal like that? But when?
They were invaders!
They were actually invading the planet. It was one thing to see through a monitor screen and another to witness. It was scary. The truth was, we weren't going to survive or face it. If Édrin had not succeeded with its advanced technology, what would become of us?
I widened my eyes at the images that came to my mind projected by Zorack, desperately wanting to run towards him and fighting the terrible fear, ignoring the sound of destruction outside and the screams.
He tried to reassure me. It was the first time that I captured the image of the planet that should be my true home. The green planet. The aerial forests even with the destruction caused by that creature were beautiful.
They hissed at each other in metallic communication that gave me chills. I noticed Zorack's strained features and the arm struck by those strange weapons bleed. It wasn't red like ours. It was ... blood, however. He was hurt!
"Just Breathe. I'll find a way to get out of here. They are K'Aldriants. They are communicating with the leader and warning that the base has been taken over and the humans captured."
The tallest of those creatures entered and it was not necessary to know the language to know who it was. The rest moved away in respect, giving way. And their face was ...
K'aldriants?
"It's Ravenack, Angel. Try to be quiet until we are taken from here to the slave ships. Just be quiet, sweetness."
Slaves? Did they have slaves? How did your blood change color?
Why should I be surprised? Was that why Small Mountain looked deserted? People had been captured and ...
"The Citadel, sweetness. The neutral zone of the Confederation. I'm not managing to maintain the illusion anymore ..."
Illusion? What else was not what appeared there?
Lost images from my subconscious surfaced. could see the imposing white marble construction that shone in the reddish light of the suns that warmed Édrin. The Seven Towers ... From the top of the alley a tall, strong man looked at the land as if looking concerned. The face was too serious. He was terribly concerned.
"-Voltan ... we can't resist.
-I'm Asturi from Igneous. Order them to prepare the city ships so that the population can escape the creatures that arrive on our planet.
-We can't shelter that many people, Asturi. Our only chance is to resist and fight. Or deliver the little one that Ravenack is looking for."
Voltan ... Asturi ... The names were very familiar. Just like the corridors now lost in the gloom as I stared into the darkness with fear. People ran for shelter between the walls of the towers. And I looked at the image of the little child hidden among the statues of our great leaders in fear. It was a child of twenty at the time of Édrin. It was me over there. I was barely three years old than humans knew.
-Caílin will stay with the heirs. Ask Zorack to take care of the girl. Anyway, I doubt that she will attend anyone other than him. "Asturi grunted.
And right after that, the hand that transmitted security to my children's world brought me a smile of satisfaction.
It was Zorack ... a much younger Zorack.
And then everything became darkness and horror.
There was no air to breathe. I had the impression that the walls of the Tower's ventilation ducts could close over me. I knew needed to be quiet and hidden. The city was taken over by the invader. I watched with hopes that Zorack would not take so long. hated being alone and in the dark.
The sound of footsteps ... The smile broke out on my face when I ran in my uncertain steps or at least tried towards the light.
And I screamed. Cold contact chilled my skin. The sound of metallic and artificial breathing made me shiver.
-Oh, see what we think? I assured you that some lashes can easily loosen a slave's tongue. Take it to my ship. - the voice made me experience horror. Even in my innocence, I knew something was wrong. - Come on, child.
Zorack was taking too long. It was getting dark.
-I will not go with you! Let me go!
-It is now among yours. The first female of our species ...
