Chapter 40 - Parliaments...

- Well, choose soon!

She looked in frustration at a table littered with dishes that needed to be taken out before the kitchen service was ready to get some rest.

-Choose what? she asked annoyed.

Katie, the old cook, sighed in the smoky room, frowning as she shook her head.

- Mercy, you fool! Mary is telling you to choose. Just pick a man from the salon. With your beauty and those eyes, pick any man there. Mary Jane...

Cassie laughed at the idea, unable to grasp the absurdity.

-To choose? And what would I do with these drunkards? - she sighed. There was still little water to wash the dishes, which meant she would also have to get water from the well.

Mary smiled teasingly as she approached.

-Now! I would do whatever wanted, of course. It would make her life a lot easier. Would have more facilities...

Cassie stifled an indignant groan. He had made it very clear to a monsieur that his job would be to wait tables and help with the tedious chores of the kitchen. She needed an urgent miracle. Where the hell was the Unicorn?

She gave up on doing the dishes, smothering assorted pests. He had managed to break some plates in addition to the glasses. He could imagine the attractive face in front of him eager to kill him. He, damn him, had made her life a misery. It was all his fault!

He was just....simply...

-Oh, stop dreaming about Monsieur Richard Morgan. - The blonde grumbled.

- You broke the dishes again. That way you won't get any money this week, girl. Enough of the camphor you broke into the customers' heads. - Katie sighed.

The whole situation was humiliating. Kassuim had the urge to scream with such fury. Violent emotions surfaced very easily.

-It was not my fault. That man tried to grab me! - she defended herself.

-You shouldn't be showing off than in the salon. God! Knee them between their legs. How did she manage to survive on her own?

The girl could cry, yet she raised her defiant face in defiance.

She hoped that Morgan... She hoped that he... he...Rick...

-I've always survived very well on my own. - The complaint was muffled. It was not true. Zagorra kept her under extreme care.

-Sure. Under the care of a parent. - He shook his head and left the kitchen work to sit on a stool studying the girl in front of him intently. - You're too young. Do not lie to me. You are not a maid.

Cassie sighed heavily. She was very tempted to tell Katie her skills with a pistol or a sword. She certainly wasn't a helpless damn young lady.

It was an incredible day. And he had barely reached Chabone. after the young cabin boy had escaped from the ship, Rick was waiting for the opportunity to press charges against the captain of the Star of Tomorrow before the Successrium. Of course this time Muir would intercede.

Faith walked with Philip through town and Mike... Heavens! May they have mercy on him. he would probably be after the viscount's daughter again. That was the only reason he could find to hear from the coven.

James... Well, that... It wasn't common. The feud between them... It was always the same story. The disappearance of the regent's daughter brought countless problems to the wolves. He was looking forward to resting and maybe a few hours to relieve the stress of the trip and all the annoyance on account of Cassie.

And the missive… Richard Morgan was muttering with all his anger. It was absurd. The accusations… The list was huge of complaints from the Sorcerers' Regent regarding the wolves. And there was still...

The detail caught his attention more carefully. A girl... It was about a girl with skills who walked into their territory.

He sipped the wine thoughtfully. What girl was in Chabone anyway who would take the Regent's attention like that? The young laaio was still in front of him and with suspicious eyes, waiting for his answer.

What the hell took him! He didn't know about that girl, did he? I had barely arrived from a trip...

-Tell your regent...- Rick didn't quite know how to avoid being rude and prayed to be diplomatic on the matter.

A sorceress lost just in that part of town? There was nothing there but brothels and taverns.

-My lord sent to tell you that the girl... - The young man still looked around with evident fear. He continued eager to get out of there as quickly as possible. - My lord sent to warn you that the girl... the girl is of interest to you. He still hopes you keep her safe.

"My lord sends word that he would very much appreciate avoiding friction and annoyance with Monsieur Garro and Philip Morgan. You can get help from one of the women over there. Mary Jane will help you with the matter. And he asked me to warn you... Any retaliation to the girl will be considered an act of war for the Coven
