"Umm.. ah.. the thing.. umm the thing is..."
"Speak up. I'm feeling tired, I wanna sleep", he said a little bit irritated at her stuttering.
"The thing is about.. you", she said in a whispering tone glancing secretly at him to know his reaction, through the corner of her eyes.
"About me?"
"Ab-about you-your kind."
"Oh! yeah?" he understood what she wanted to ask. He gave her a warm smile, hoping she wouldn't get nervous anymore. And just like he thought she relaxed a bit, her nervousness fading away little by little.
"You are not like what-.. what I've read. I mean... your habits are...different?.. If that makes sense." She said making a weird face as she couldn't find words to explain what she wanted to ask.
He laughed at her cuteness and said,"Yeah yeah! I get what you mean and I promise to clear all your confusion later on but for now just know.. umm.. we changed over time. We kinda.. adapted more to our surroundings. To the normal human world. There were.. some kind of changes in our genes you could say! So things aren't the same as they used to be all that time back." He shrugged.
"Oh! so you aren't like... immortal or something?" He laughed out loud and flicked her forehead playfully. "Owwiiee.. what was that for?" she asked pouting ever so cutely and rubbing the spot.
He chuckled at her and said,"Yes, we aren't immortal. Don't read much fantasies you dumbhead, your head is full of bullshit."
"Rude" was the only reply he got with a bigger pout than before which made him roll on the bed laughing. He wiped his tears from the corner of his eyes which we threatening to spill 'cause he was laughing really hard, then said,"Ok! go to sleep now and clear your head of your fantasies and come back to reality."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever, good night" she said laying down on her bed and pulling the blanket up above her head after pushing him off of the bed. 'Even this reality is like a fantasy' was the last thought of hers before she closed her eyes and tried to drift off to sleep.
Chuckling and smiling, Ian made his way to the room in front of hers and went to bed, the tiredness taking over him.
They both went to dreamland unknowing that a certain someone was lost in his deep thoughts while unsuccessfully trying to concentrate on the book in his hand. Sitting in his study and reading was always relaxing to him but today was an exception. What he was thinking and WHY he was thinking that thought was utter mystery to him. He sighed heavily and scolded himself in his head, put the book down and defeatedly went inside his bedroom and tried really hard to sleep.
A few days passed and Adina had already recieved her warning letter. After talking with Aiden she decided to mail her resignation. These days, while she was working with Ian, she noticed things changing or more like... people changing.
It should've felt nice but she felt uncomfortable. This wasn't how things were supposed to be. There should have been glaring contests and some arguing but this-... things weren't right or normal. She spent most of her time just working beside Ian and was unbothered by anything else happening. But the thing is 'most' doesn't mean 'all'. The times when she had to ask Aiden something, talk to him regarding some work or just be beside him because so was Ian... she felt uneasy. When did Aiden become so calm? He changed, he still didn't smile or greet her happily but ..yeah, changed. Whenever she gave him a nod of acknowledgement, he returned it back, even if it was with a straight face. If not for work, he didn't talk to her ..or look at her for the record. This wasn't how things were pictured in Adina's head and she was not happy at all.
Things were same for some time and the days were passing by in their new normal way until THAT day when Aiden made Adina more confused and compelled her to start questioning "things".
