Chapter 4 - Rogues...

Xan's POV

"It is a nice day to kill people", is what I keep telling myself as I run in my human form through the streets of Kings capital, the biggest city in Trondom. I run at a leisure 211 meters per hour, her vampire side enjoying the scenery on the way. There was a call to my parents workspace, a cry for help. They told them a woman sounding utterly distraught, begged for some kind of help before rogues totally took over their territory.

My parents, Luther and Magnosia, knew the importance of my time, so I trusted they were telling the truth and asked for a few more details.

Indeed, it was as the caller had explained, the streets were empty, no one in sight, the electricity was cut off, and I couldn't feel any of the Pack's magic, or mind links going around. Usually I hated going into pack territories this big because the mind links were so many. They felt like invisible wires ready to wrap around and choke you with information if you did not block them out hard enough.

I had been here a few times in my life, and the capital city was always alive full of people. If the caller was right and these were just rogues, they had to be getting smarter, and I cannot wait to flush them out.

I made my way to the palace, "No magic protecting it, but I can feel there's life close by", I think aloud, it's not like there's anyone to listen in. not long after my outwardly thoughts, I see a group of rogues patrolling near me. I am a bit surprised, "Rogues? Patrolling? huh?". This is like insects deciding to learn a human trade.

Stealthily getting to the first rogues, I use my magic to kill them. Usually I would recite my 'burn to ashes' spell in my mind and kill them telepathically, but I am not fully aware that I am not being watched. She found about fifty more of them gathered, but before they could think about alerting others, they also dropped to the ground as ashes.

"That was close, maybe I don't care all that much about being watched", I think briefly.

Finally I get to the front door of the main palace, still not teleporting, shifting, or running, to examine how many rogues were possibly on guard in each part of the palace.

As I make my way down a tunnel-like hallway that seems to go on and on, I pick up on the sound of a woman shouting in the opposite side of the massive building . I quicken my pace. Now moving much faster than before, and probably appearing to be a blur to possible onlookers, I hurry to follow the voice. There is something else pulling me to action, and at first I cannot place what it is.

Nothing could prepare me for what I saw.

My mate bruised and beaten, about to be tortured some more. There are fifteen rogues watching, two more holding up my mate, and a man standing in the Shadows. He looks like Manul Ronti, the Beta of this pack. "So, it looks like the second in command to the king sold out the entire territory", I said, with the intention of dragging their attentions to myself. The torture stops.

The man in the shadows of the poorly lit room reveals himself saying, " Xan, I know who you are, what you are capable of", he paused, new villains always thought that but I strongly doubted it.

"This pack territory needs better management, the rogues were going to take over anyway because Jacob Trondom, our useless figurehead of an alpha, was doing a terrible Job of protecting us. This way it is done on my terms, and with the packs best interest at heart ".

He tells me about the new magic that no one could get away from, myself included, and how he would be known as the one that came up with it, after I die. They always thought that.

While he finished his bad guy speech, I used my magic to transport my mate into my arms, healing her immediately. A breathe I did not realize I was holding leaves my chest. Fear for another this strong, is not something I have felt in a long while.

Normally I wouldn't listen to all of his crap but I needed information before deleting him. As he tried to wield his magic, I killed all the rogues and blocked his magic temporarily.

My mate, still in my arms, was nervous and scared, but quiet, like she was trying to find out if I was better than the rogues. I transported a chair to the dark room and sat, finally responding with, "Now, you've said a lot of fucking crap but nothing about where the people are, tell me all about that, and who is really behind this, then maybe I'll let you live longer"
