Lorelei pov
"Safe", I just kept repeating this word to myself, not quite believing it yet, but I was currently in the arms of my mate. A woman. A woman who came to our rescue, and was currently threatening Manul. She didn't look very much like a girl, with the men's athletic wear pants and hoodie, the full length cashmere coat, and her shoes... I couldn't see them well from this position. Or rather I should say she just doesn't appear very feminine. I feel only the hardness of abs as I rest against her through the black hoodie she must work out.
She has deep brown skin colour, grey eyes, and what seemed like a million braids in a loose bun on top of her head. Did she come alone? Was she sent alone? And my gods what is this scent she has me enveloped in? It's like coffee, vanilla, and mint, I think. It shouldn't have been so—
"You talk a big game, but I'm not a filthy rogue, you can't kill me that easily", Manul yelled, freezing my thoughts for a second. Right, she was currently threatening Manul, and at this, it looked like she lost her cool, because she killed him without a second thought, though her facial expression didn't change. Right, while I couldn't help but ogle her body and burrow into her warmth, I forgot she killed everyone in this room and now, the beta. Can she be trusted?
"You can trust me, love" she says startling me, it was like she heard my thoughts, and it doesn't help ease my worry. The mate bond says to feel safe with her, but what I've seen says she might not be too far from the bad people who killed the alpha king and his family. She asks me for my name, and I can tell she has a slight Australian accent. "L- Lo- Lorelei, Lorelei Seer", I reply, suddenly shy when she fixes her full gaze on me.
" I'm Alexandria Jaguar, most people know me by Xan, and you love...", she pauses for emphasis, " are now Lorelei Jaguar". Couples usually decided which of the two last names they would both use, some people decided to keep separate ones, but I was not about to argue with my mate. Lorelei Jaguar it was, and It sounded nice.
Wait a minute, my mate is a Jaguar, like the Royal family Jaguar. I couldn't stop myself as I immediately asked, "the royal family, Jaguar?", "hmm", she replied, and I tried to get off her lap and out her arms to give a proper courtesy. My mother was the head sorceress in the palace, so I was surrounded by royalty and nobles, and knew how to tiptoe around them, "but what to do now?...
MY MOTHER, how had I forgotten about her death, even so briefly, I thought to my self . She died a long with other magicians and soldiers, trying to protect the palace.
Xan didn't let me get down, "stay put Lorelei, I'm still healing you? What's the matter?", she asked. How to tell her that my mother died three days ago, and I didn't know for sure who to trust.
I eventually reply with, "Are you here to help us?", avoiding the question she asked first. She looked at me although she had me all figured out and said yes.
"Then why did they send just you?", I say. She stands up, the chair disappears, and she starts walking out the room with me still in her arms,
"I was only supposed to check things out, and yes I have called for backup, now before your next question..." she stopped walking, showing me an amused grin, "let me know where all the people in the capital city are, so I can save them."
I blushed this time full on, and looked away. I tried to get out of her arms again, needing to stand away from the beautiful woman, "please let me down now", I said. This time she obliged, and set me down. I just realized how tall she was, six feet to my five foot four. I also realized I was completely healed, they were torturing me in that dark room, about to start using magic to get information out. Part of my mother's job was taking care and keeping count of the magical treasures, apparently they killed her without getting a certain information out, so they were trying to get it out of her 19 year old daughter.
"They made a city wide message for everyone to stay inside their homes, and everyone who dared go out so far has been thrown in the dungeon or killed on the spot.", I finally replied.
Xan didn't look like she felt empathy, again was she really on our side. " The extra soldiers and medical help is underway", she says. "Oh, she's probably using a pack link messaging right now.", I think to myself.
"Take me to the dungeons first, then let's get a city wide message telling them they are safe, and can come out .Okay love?... then tell me what is really bothering you when this has all settled down." She said before we sprung into action.
The city had been locked down for seven days, we spent four days protecting it, and three days hiding indoors waiting for the freaks to find whatever they were looking for. I had been surprised the King's right hand man had sold our territory out, he always seemed to lively and nice, but I guess he always wanted to rule. Shortly after Xan transported the hostages out to the palace auditorium, most of the city people that could come had come, and more help was already within city walls. There were hungry people, sick people, burnt down businesses.
While the rest of the territory was left unharmed, and for the most part ignorant of everything happening in the capital, the capital was chaos, and could use all the help we could get without too much of what happened getting out. Which is why the Jaguars territory, sending some help was perfect, just like my mate, who kept that unbothered monotone character while strictly bossing everyone about what to do. I was dragged along though everything, her not letting me stray away, and me beaming with pride. "But is she good for me , will she want us long term", I reminded myself, trying to not get my hopes up.
