Once again, a hundred words unspoken, glances frozen in time, apologies left without context. Maria was in the same place, she was almost twenty years ago, filled with grief and sorrow. Standing alongside the only person who had ever blamed her for the death of her lover. But this time she had nothing to say. Eyes filled with tears and lips pressed together for a reason.
"What's with that face..."The quiet, yet harsh tone of Frank's voice broke the silence. Forcing Maria to suck in the regret she was feeling and present a softer demeanor.
She let out a gasped breath, that had been held in for what seemed like forever as she spoke with as much composure as she could muster. "Whatever do you mean?"Her words trailed off like a whisper in the wind.
"Morning him now won't do you any good."Frank spoke, despair caught up in his throat.
The woman looked down with a sympathetic smile on her lips."I am not morning anything.."She sighed once more.
Frank puffed on his cigarette, the smoke hitting his companion in the face. His hand slowly and ever so softly holding onto her shoulder.
"Want one?"He mumbled out, raising his pack of cigarettes in plain view.
Maria's lips curved lightly as she pulled a single Camel cigarette from the pack."Do I ever.."She muttered placing it between her lips. Pulling out of her jacket pocked a single red lighter, lighting it up, inhaling as if it was mountain air.
Frank wouldn't be able to comfort her and he knew that fairly well. He had lost a childhood friend, while for her it was the only man she ever loved. He understood that the blame he had put on her throughout the years was just victim. There was no place for childish talk in this situation, of ever again.
"I can't believe that after all these years you never even tried to move on..."He said with a pitiful smile spread over cracked pale lips.
"How can I..."Maria started after narrowing her gaze towards the man."How can I when every time I look at my son I see Logan..."Maria chocked on a laughter as she wiped the tears away from her tired eyes.
"He did resemble Logan a lot as a child."Frank spoke, puffing on his cigarette with a loud exhale.
"You should see him now."She mentioned with a wide smile, though her eyes were unable to hide the great pain she felt."It's like looking at him back when we met."She spoke taking in a breath."I have only one man in my life that I want to be with...and that man left me a bitter reminder of himself. Now Edward is what I live for."She said quietly.
"You were always a devoted person..."Frank said with the bitter realisation that all the years he had judged her were all false accusations, putting her in a worse state than she had already been in.
Maria looked at her friend, biting onto her lower lip as she saw his face."It's alright..."She spoke, answering a question unasked, but present in the air.
