I was stolen solid. I was in a state of not moving and not existing. This was because of the horde that was passing me by.
"Deep in my mind I can feel myself becoming something other than myself." I thought.
There was something inside my mind that felt like a hand reaching out to me.
"What do you want?" I asked.
The hand signaled me to move forward. It was strange because it felt as if I had entered a movement with others. It was like I was swimming alongside a school of fish. Around me was darkened figures shrouded in dark fog.
"Hello?" I say to get one of the figures attention.
They were arms length away from me but it seemed as if they were only listening to the strange hand like figure that was guiding all of us forward.
"I see you're experiencing the flow of the undead." Said the same mysterious voice that called out to me earlier.
"What do you mean by that?" I ask.
I was not happy to hear from the voice again, because the last time I heard it speak I was face to face with a few undead walkers trying to kill me. This time was different, it didn't approach me with some sort of mysterious foreboding line. I'll entertain it for a moment, I thought.
"This is what they experience when they are given orders." Said the voice.
"So you're saying that these brainless undead creatures are following someone's orders?" I ask.
"Well there has so be some sort of order in the world." Said the voice.
"Okay, if there is some sort of order to this world then please tell me more about what you know!" I try to persuade the voice.
"Tell me who you are and what you want from me." I commanded the voice to tell me the truth.
"I will leave you with a single truth and this single truth will change the way you see your world. You must trust the power deep within you."
"What the hell do you mean by that?"
"Goodbye. I will see you soon."
"Sure whatever."
The voice didn't say anything after that and the figures that were beside me slowly started to fade away as if they walked to far from my reach.
I returned my senses back to the situation in front of me and noticed that I couldn't hear anymore footsteps. The undead horde that was crossing me had passed me.
"I guess it's time to start moving forward. I should approach the entrance soon now." I whisper under my tongue.
I was happy to have lived through another situation where one mistake would cost my life.
I threw the body I used to cover myself in tainted blood onto the floor and ran my hand across the tunnel wall.
"Let's get started moving. I need to find a place to rest before I find myself at the entrance. I don't really know where would be a good idea to settle down so I guess I'll just keep moving until I feel safe." I told myself.
I moved forward with my hand across the wall of the subway for an hour or two. Time doesn't really register the same it did when I was able to see. I guess it has to do with being able to visualize the levels of darkness and light. I was able to understand that the moon was approaching because of the strong breeze that carried decaying warmth. This told me that the sun was going down because it first was hot air and now it's more calmed down. This is at least what I assume. I still don't know why I can feel such a strong breeze here underground.
"This is a corner. Domingo didn't tell me about any turns in the tunnel. Did I make it to the entrance?" I ask myself.
The cold and hard tunnel walls quickly cut off and on the other side was a more thin sheet of metal that seemed weak but was reinforced.
I banged on it a few times to try to get a better idea of what was in front of me.
"Who is there?" Someone yelled.
"Huh? Who are you?" I respond.
"You're the one banging on our front door and that's what you ask? No- who are you?" the deep voice responded.
"I guess you're right. My name is Tuesday! I was an English teacher!" I yell back to the voice.
I was happy to hear another person but also surprised. I did hope that this wasn't some sort of trap meant to kill and loot survivors. It could also be the entrance that Domingo told me find.
"I see. So you were a teacher?" The voice asked.
"Yes! Who are you though?" I yell trying to get a better understanding.
"I'm a guard at the gate obviously. Are you trying to get into our city?"
"I made it? Yes! I'm trying to get inside! Domingo told me to find this place!" I respond.
It seems like I found the gate. I actually did it. I felt a strong sense of relief when the guard said he was asking if I wanted inside of the city.
"You said Domingo? How do you know him?" The guard asked.
"He helped me find out about this place. He was able to guide me here. I don't know if you can tell but I can't see."
"so you're saying that he brought you here? Where is he?"
"Well… we were attacked inside the tunnels and we ended up fighting a horde of the undead. He didn't make it after that and turned into one of the undead."
"I see, let me get the other guard. Stay there as we open the gate."
I flash of Domingo crossed my mind. The person that lead me here and showed himself in one of my dreams. It felt real but- wait- the voice told me to trust the power inside of me. Is that what he meant?
"Come on inside." The guard said interrupting my train of thought.
"Like I said, I can't see. I need some help going inside."
"What do you mean you can't see? Did you lose your glasses or something?"
"No- I don't need glasses because I'm blind!"
"Oh- I'm so sorry. I didn't know."
The guards opened the gate wide and the doors creaked as they were inched open. The creak of metal echoed throughout the tunnel and vibrated into my ears. It felt as if I can touch the sound.
