Chapter 8 - [CHAPTER SIX]

Previously on Avenging Angels

Christian keeps on annoying Rose and she just keeps on despising him more. Rose's first plan on taking control of the surveillance camera in the Bladderwort's was virtually a success. Will she be able to enter the castle without any issues?

I peeked into the back door and made sure no one was inside before I stepped in stealthily.

I turned on my phone flashlight and walked down the hallway.

That was until I bumped into someone.

I regained my balance and stood on my feet, I reached down to pick up my phone and the USB.

The USB??

I searched across the hall but couldn't find it.

Damn!!

"Looking for something?" Christian said from behind me and I turned around to see him holding the USB with a smirk on his face.

"Give it to me" I stepped forward to take it but he stepped back just in time.

"Ah, not so fast, my dear. I didn't hear the magic word" he smiled mischievously.

"Christian, I don't have time for this right now. Just give it to me!" I groaned in annoyance.

His mouth parted in surprise.

"You just said my name?!" He said in disbelief.

"I didn't know I was so special that calling your name could be such a big deal" I crossed my arms.

"Well, you aren't that special now but I have a feeling that you will be, soon" he started moving forward but I put my hand out to stop him.

"Stay where you are" I warned.

"Why? You seemed to like it earlier" he smirked, the flashlight illuminating his face.

My ear turned red and hot and for once, I was thankful the lights were out.

I didn't need any more teasing.

"Just give me the USB" I stated.

"Just say the magic word, please" he insisted.

I closed my eyes and calmed my breaths.

"Give me my USB, please" I gritted out because I was done reasoning with him.

"There. Wasn't so bad, was it?" He handed it to me and I  grabbed it.

I was about to leave when he grabbed me back and pushed me against his chest.

"You are one tough cookie, aren't you?" He whispered close to my face.

"I believe I live up to that name, don't you think?" I smirked and tried to squirm away from him.

"Have I ever told you I love cookies?" He smiled.

"There you go again with your boring and outdated line, blabbermouth" I rolled my eyes in response.

"But it does seem to affect you, I believe your cheeks aren't rosy like this" he pinched my cheeks and I managed to remove my hand from his grip and slapped his other hand away.

"If you are blind, may I remind you that we are in total blackout and the only light that is here is from my phone, dimwit" I scowled at him.

"Thanks for reminding me, I just remembered, we have unfinished business, Rosa" he whispered and leaned in making sure to leave just a split distance between us.

The way he said my name sent a shiver down my spine.

He leaned in again about to press his lips on mine when the lights came back on.

"Great" he breathed under his breath and stepped away.

"Looks like that business will remain unfinished" I smirked and walked away.

"Where were you, young lady?" I jumped a little and turned around to see Miss Helda raising her eyebrows at me.

"I-i told you I was going to the bathroom, Miss Helda" I kept my face straight despite my racing heart.

"I see, go and join others to clean up the dining and kitchen," she said.

"Yes, ma'am" I answered and quickly left to the kitchen.

"Rosaline!!!!!" A screeching voice tore my eardrums as I entered the kitchen.

"Where were you during all the drama?" Sarah grabbed my hand and dragged me towards the counter.

"Shitting my guts out. What happened?" I said as I grabbed the cloth to clean the counter.

"Well nothing much except Mr. Bladderwort going all hulk, but Miss Regina seem to be very disturbed by the darkness, she was almost having a panic attack," she said as she clumsily arranged the stuff on the counter.

"Really?" I raised my eyebrows in question.

"If you are done gossiping about matters that don't concern you. Can you go help Violet clean the dishes?" Mrs. Scott spat and we quickly rushed to the sink and helped Violet.

Regina scared of the dark?

That's interesting.

I put my hair in a ponytail and checked myself once more in the mirror before grabbing my things and leaving the room with Chloe.

"You are so lucky, I can't wait for my break," Chloe said as we walked down the hall to the kitchen.

"Yours is like just two weeks later" I reminded her and laughed when she pouted.

Each maid gets a break every week and this week just happened to be my week, luckily.

We entered the kitchen and everyone was already busy getting ready for breakfast.

"I can see you just can't wait to leave the house, Rose" Georgia snickered.

"And I am guessing you are dying to be in my place. But sorry to say yours is in like a month or so" I retaliated and smirked when she rolled her eyes at me and shut up.

"Aren't you staying for breakfast?" Helen asked.

"I am just going to make a small sandwich" I answered as I grabbed the sliced bread and some ingredients.

"Make sure to be back by breakfast time next tomorrow, is that understood?" Miss Helda said as she entered the kitchen and went to the gas cooker.

"Yes, mum" I rolled my eyes and Helen snorted.

"Watch your attitude, young lady!" she stomped her feet and looked at me disapprovingly.

Mrs. Hatchman gestured for me to shut up and I did and apologized grudgingly.

After I was done eating, I grabbed my things and left.

I was almost close to the garden when I heard someone calling me.

I turned around to see a guy running towards me.

Once he was at least an arm's length away from me, he stopped and smiled and I almost got blinded by his smile.

He was a brunette with brown soft eyes that reminded me of my favorite chocolate, his well-defined body hiding beneath the black suit he is wearing, a wireless earpiece attached to his right ear.

I found myself staring at him and when I saw his mouth moving, I snapped out of my daze.

Was I really drooling over a guy?! Come on!

"Miss, are you okay?" He asked in concern.

"Yes, I am. Is there any problem?" I asked trying to hide the fact that I was literally just drooling over him.

"You dropped this," he said and handed me my purse.

"Oh, thank you" I grabbed it from him and shoved it down my bag.

"You live here?" He asked.

"I work here but that won't be for long," I said and smiled.

"Why?" He put his hands in his pocket and leaned forward a bit.

"Never mind. OK, I have to go now. See you around" I said and ran to the gate.

"Wait, what's your name?" He yelled and I turned back to answer him.

"Look for the brightest flower in the garden" I yelled back and stepped out of the mansion.

I entered a taxi and told him the location.

I took out the USB, rubbed the smooth surface, and sighed, leaning against the window and looking out to see the hustle and bustle of Paris streets.

It is so different from home.

I paid the taxi driver and looked up at the building, I entered the elevator and when I reached the door, I took out my keys and opened the door.

It made a creak and opened to show the place we called home for the past five years.

The first thing you saw was the living room which was filled with a diverse range of colors.

The red sofas, orange recliners, and the green table in the center.

I made my way to the kitchen and took a bottle of water from the refrigerator and down it in a go.

I then proceeded to my room that had a rose picture on it, passing the other two rooms that had a white and a blue flower on the door.

I opened it, dropped my things on the desk.

My room wasn't anything special. It contained a bed, closet, and desk which my laptop was on, and vanity with cosmetics and makeup sprawled on it.

I wasn't a typical neat freak like Iris.

I climbed the staircase in the hallway that led to the rooftop of the eight-story building and went towards the edge to look down at the busy street.

There was slight traffic on the road, a woman hawking goods was running across the road to sell her products no matter what.

A pedestrian bumped into her and the basket her goods was in, toppled over the road, she bent to pick the goods when a car trashed some of it.

Then it all came rushing back.

"Come get your flowers, come get your flowers" A girl with black hair and deep-sea blue eyes walked around the busy roads, holding red roses in her tiny hands.

She wasn't less than ten years old.

Her old, dirty, and worn-out floral dress loosely fell off her bony stature.

Then some teenagers passing by stopped and pushed her, a mischievous look on their acne-filled face.

"What's your problem?" She snapped and bent over to pick up the roses from the ground.

"Get off the streets. Don't you have parents? Oh, sorry. I am sure they dumped you just like the roses on the floor" one of them said and high-fived his friend.

Her small fists clenched and she stood up, tears about to escape her eyes but she promised not to cry and she won't.

"You are lying!" She moved forward to punch him but he held her back and she raked her teeth through his wrist which made him slap her cheek and she fell with a thud.

"Bitch!" He spat and rubbed his now bloody wrists.

"You are just filth in the streets. A nobody. A filthy rat!" he bellowed out and rubbed his slightly bloody wrist.

"Is there a problem here?" A deep voice laced with a Spanish accent intervened.

"N-nothing" the teenager stuttered and scurried down the street with his friends behind his tail, not wanting to feel the wrath of an adult.

The young man gazed at the small figure on the floor and brought his hand out to help her.

"Are you okay, little one?" He smiled warmly at her but she pushed herself off the ground and dusted her hands.

"I don't need help from anyone. I can take care of myself. And don't call me little, little means weak and I am not weak" she snarled and bent to pick up the roses.

He stared at her, amazed at the ferocity behind a small voice and at the damage she caused to the young boy's wrist.

"How much for these?" He pointed at the roses in her hands.

"Five dollars," she said and looked up at him for the first time.

His honey eyes shined under the sunlight and his dark hair pushed back to reveal his boyish but mature looks. He was in a crisp grey suit and was obviously wealthy.

She thought.

"I will buy all of these but under one condition" he uttered, his warm smile still on his face.

"What's that?" She asked and squinted to glance up at him.

"Come home with me, Mi Amore" he brought out his hand and gestured for her to take it.

She stared at his hand, an unreadable look on her face, and then gave him a bright smile that he had no other choice but to smile back.

I smiled a little at the memory.

Look at where I now am, compared to ten years ago.

I closed my eyes, feeling the warm breeze hitting my face and blowing my black locks.

I heard footsteps coming up and I opened my eyes but remained in my position.

Once I heard the footsteps stop, I turned around and saw two figures smiling at me and I found myself grinning at them.

Janet Peters and Bianca Romano.
