Chapter 77 - Here and Now (1)

- Lucifer and Kahvis -

Lucifer and Kahvis were on their own at the front of the right army, with Death being alone on the left. The two were channeling magic as they walked, Lucifer's arms were covered in explosive orbs, and Kahvis was holding two orbs of electricity. Kahvis had switched to a black shirt with three linked blue circles on the back, with black pants. The two were walking through the destroyed headquarters. Kahvis looked around at the area, confused by what happened.

"I don't have time to explain," Lucifer said.

"It doesn't matter," Kahvis responded.

The two kept moving forward. They were meant to spearhead the demon armies along with Death. They would need to deal massive damage first, or the resistance's army would simply be overwhelmed. It didn't help that the average demon soldier is stronger than the average human. The odds of the battle went through Lucifer's mind one last time before he silenced his thoughts.

The vibrations in the ground alerted the two that it was time. The four-horned demons stormed forward with a loud battle cry.

"FOR LORD MOLOCH!" The army shouted in unison.

The two launched their channeled attacks, and a mass of explosions and lightning struck the enemy forces, causing a shockwave to ripple out. While the initial damage was great, it would only eliminate a small amount of the enemy's total forces. They needed to follow up while they had the momentum.

Lucifer took a breath in and conjured his wings. This was different from the Underground and Sol. There weren't buildings for him to maneuver around, so he was completely reliant on Kahvis's ability to cover him. He flew towards the army with Kahvis running below him.

Moloch's forces were mostly comprised of ground infantry, with a small force of flying demons above. Kahvis was as dependent on Lucifer clearing the skies, as Lucifer would be for them to cover him.

The flying unit of Moloch's army engaged Lucifer first. Explosive orbs and wind shot towards him from the sky, while the anti-air on the ground tried to snipe him down with lightning. He grabbed the orbs, endured the wind, receiving only minor cuts, and then avoided the lightning. He countered with his own fire magic, causing a string of massive explosions to rip across the sky.

While Lucifer was removing the aerial threats, Kahvis was focusing on taking out the lightning users on the ground. They traced the lines of electricity and went straight for their targets while veiling themselves in an illusion that made them look like another demon. They snuck into the middle of one of the anti-air units and shot bolts through the demons they saw firing at Lucifer.

Kahvis had to move quickly after killing one group of anti-air demons. They shot themselves into the sky with a blast of wind, bringing a large pillar of stone with them as they ascended. They turned the stone into spikes and shot them down at the demons, killing most of the ones that fired at them.

Lucifer had used Kahvis's distraction to be more aggressive against the flying demons. He filled the sky with smoke and rushed his targets down. He flew towards one demon and incinerated their head with his fire breath while shooting down two that were on opposite sides of him. He was maximizing his lethality and continuing to push deeper, aiming to swiftly eliminate the demon's aerial forces so he can assist Kahvis below.

When Kahvis landed back on the ground they made sure to avoid serious damage, opting to just endure minor hits and heal, instead of trying to avoid everything. Demons tried to rush them down, but to no avail. Every melee swing of a weapon was met with a powerful magic response, and every ranged magic attack was reflected or redirected.

Kahvis had seemed nearly untouchable to the demons. Having every base affinity allowed them to catch or deflect all basic magic sent their way. They had become a much larger distraction for the army than even Lucifer, who was currently filling the sky with the smell of burning flesh. The two were an effective combination that was about to meet their first real challenge.

- Jahkar, Molakar, Lucifer, Kahvis -

Jahkar bulleted towards Lucifer. Lucifer finished off the last of the flying demons as he heard Jahkar's approach.

Jahkar generated a small explosive orb on each of his fingertips. He threw the ten orbs at Lucifer on a curve, causing them to explode before the prince could catch them. Jahkar giggled and flew into the smoke cloud.

Molakar ran towards Kahvis, his armor making a heavy thump with every step. His speed was surprising given how heavy his armor looked. The demons made a path for their commander as he ran. He leaped, aiming to land on Kahvis, but missed as the unknown dodged out of the way.

Lucifer immediately knew who attacked him. He and Jahkar were facing each other. He had no plans to exchange fiery attacks with the demon, instead choosing to rush them. Jahkar followed his movement and rushed to meet him.

Lucifer was confident in his strength, but he knew enough about Jahkar to not be arrogant. Lucifer pulled out his dagger and went to pierce Jahkar's skull, but his hand was stopped.

'Fucking eldritch contracts,' Lucifer thought.

Jahkar went to shoot a close-range blast of flames at Lucifer. Lucifer redirected the attack and breathed fire as he did. Jahkar released him and flew low.

While Jahkar and Lucifer were fighting in the air, Kahvis was dealing with the hulking mass of black metal in front of them. Their attacks weren't enough to pierce the armor, and Molakar wasn't using his magic, instead attempting to simply hold Kahvis down and crush the life out of them.

Kahvis and Lucifer weren't necessarily struggling, but as their respective battles dragged on they both noticed the growing mass of red around them. Moloch wouldn't be at the front of his army, like Baal, so they had time until they needed to back off, but neither was doing enough damage.

Lucifer and Jahkar were dog-fighting when Lucifer noticed who Kahvis was dealing with. He knew he needed to switch targets, but couldn't find the time to. He had absolute faith in his ability to win a battle of fire magic, which made the difficulty he was having pinning down Jahkar all the more frustrating.

Kahvis was running around the demon forces, trying to gain some amount of distance from Molakar. The other demons had switched to defensive tactics, simply focusing on stopping Kahvis from moving instead of trying to injure them.

Molakar eventually cornered Kahvis amongst a large crowd of demons. They laughed, causing a small echo to come from his helmet. He was ready to squeeze the life out of the being before him.

'Fuck this,' Lucifer thought, speeding straight down with Jahkar at his back.

Lucifer shot a mix of fire and smoke behind him as he descended. He was partially gambling with his own durability. He needed to help Kahvis, and was assuming that potentially taking an attack in the back from Jahkar would be worth dealing with Molakar. He felt the heat of an explosive orb torch his wings as he landed on Molakar's back.

"Really Prince?" Molakar scoffed.

"Really," Lucifer said, blasting the side of the helmet with blue fire.

Lucifer conjured himself new wings and flew off the now screaming demon. He grabbed Kahvis's hand as he flew, and flung them into the air above him.

Kahvis flew up into the air and shot two bolts of lightning at Jahkar, clipping one of the demon's wings. Lucifer flew up and grabbed Kahvis's arm. The two did a strafing run on the demons below them, with Kahvis simultaneously healing Lucifer's injuries as they flew.

"You alright brother?" Jahkar asked with laughter, feeling the damage to his wing.

"I'm fine," Molakar said, his red eye glaring through the melted black metal of his helmet.

Lucifer and Kahvis were focusing on retreating for now. They didn't completely handle the initial wave as they had hoped. Lucifer dropped Kahvis to the ground and the two moved on to their next plan.

Kahvis created stone pillars all over the former headquarters. They made two large pillars for Lucifer and themself, and both were now overlooking the area. Lucifer placed his left palm up and channeled a large grapefruit-sized explosive orb. He used his right hand and slammed his palm against the orb in the direction of the approaching army, causing the orb to launch forward in a blur. Kahvis stood next to Lucifer, ready to intercept any attempted counters.

Moloch's army was now being pelted by large explosive orbs, each of which was killing at least ten demons with every explosion. The orbs moved too quickly for the army to properly respond to them. They decided to simply march forward and use their numbers to endure.

The army approached the headquarters, ready to remove Lucifer from his artillery position. The stone pillars made most of the demons hesitate.

"It's just stone! MOVE!" Molakar shouted.

Molakar placed his hands on the ground and caused a large eruption of fire to rise from the ground. Most of the stone pillars were destroyed, but Lucifer's position was still secure. More explosions rang out near the back of the army, causing Molakar to run into the headquarters.

Kahvis jumped down to meet Molakar, while Lucifer stayed up top and continued to fire. Lucifer had given Kahvis an opening in Molakar's armor, a fact that Molakar was fully aware of.

Molakar stared at the unknown, fighting the urge to rush them down the same way they had previously. Parts of his face were exposed, and the new knowledge of Lucifer's blue fire had him hesitating. As much as he hated it, he decided to wait for his brother.

Jahkar was further behind Molakar due to having their wing healed. The phantom pain made flying immediately, difficult. He could see Lucifer's attacks hitting the army, and decided to try and remove the prince from his position. He flew up, copied Lucifer's stance, and aimed at the large stone pillar.

Lucifer saw the orb heading towards the middle of the pillar. He flew off of his position and switched to assisting Kahvis.

- Moloch and Kut'thar -

"I should be near the front with Jahkar and Molakar, sir," Kut'thar suggested.

"You'll stay right where you are," Moloch ordered. "We'll move AFTER our forces have weakened the enemies, and act as the finishing touch."

"Fool..." Kut'thar said under his breath.

"What was that?" Moloch glared.

"Nothing, sir."
