Chapter 141 - Blood in the water (3)

The hook hits his face and splashes it with blood. I'm in one hell of a lot of pain but I can't help the smile that flashes across my face as a great idea hits me.

I had thought of my ground spikes as a spell that could only be used on horizontal surfaces. But looking at those hooks jutting out of the vertical rock wall I realize that the only thing confining me to horizontal surfaces is my imagination.

Seeing my smile the climber quickly raises his shield. He presses his body against the rock and braces for whatever may come from above.

But nothing comes from above. Instead, a spike shoots out of the wall his body is pressed against and he instantly gets skewered. I used only one spike so the mp cost was relatively low. Actually, casting a spell has never felt this easy.

The other members of the adventurer team of the alpha plane immediately begin to climb up as fast as they can. They are holding onto the rope while bracing their feet against the wall to stand horizontally. This way my ground spikes can't impale them directly.

I don't know how they are planning to cross the last two meters of wall that aren't yet secured by hooks and rope but they must have a plan. As do I.

I jump off the cliff and drop down. I land exactly on top of one of the climbers and ram my daggers into him. The landing absorbs most of the shock from the fall and I immediately jump off again. I work my way down stabbing all the climbers and a few normal adventurers who also tried to make use of the line the climbers had created. By the time I arrive at the bottom I've stabbed more than five people.

The adventures standing below holding off the skeletons so the climbers can do their thing are immediately alerted by my sudden descent. Some of them whirl around to fight me but as they are sandwiched between me and the skeletons their situation turns bad quickly.

Meanwhile, I hear shrill screams from over where the ice path is. I chance a quick glance over there and see a mage being devoured alive by a shoal of piranhas lying on top of him.

Rediverting my attention to the mess before me I stab a thief into his left thigh and dodge a short sword. A few energy daggers come for my throat but their aim is unsteady. The skeletons are quite distracting for the adventurers since they attack without regard for their well-being.

I have to say, these skeletons have no chill when it comes to assaulting adventurers. Those sets of bones seem to be fighting differently from before now that I am observing them more closely.

Are they imitating me?

Indeed, as I focus on one individual skeleton I can clearly see it using the same motions as me. And are those skeletons in the back throwing bones?

Sadly the adventurers die under the combined assault of me and the skeletons before I can observe more. I am already prepared to rush over to the ice path but there is no one left standing there.

Meanwhile, the water in the lake has turned blood red. Light is suffusing through the water making the color even more vibrant. For some reason, I get the feeling that the lake is alive.

They are? I wonder what they will evolve into. Any idea?

Come to think of it. I killed a few adventurers and did a lot of fighting. My level and skills should have increased!

Oh, my! I'm level 31 now and nearly all my training stats seem to have improved a little. Throwing, instructor's assessment, and earth magic leveled up too! I knew casting spells had felt easier at some point.

And what's that? Field surgery? Is that a medical skill and if yes how did I get it?

Doing something like that gives you a skill?

So you want to make me a doctor? Does it pay well?

Field surgeon...

That just sounds wrong to me. But that part with the money sounds like music to my ears.
