Now, I would love to observe the village for a while and find out things like the guards' rotation or number but I think that all that will get me is another sledgehammer to the mind.
Apart from the guards, I can see a few villagers tending the fields. I guess we'll just walz up to the archway leading into the village and force our way inside. Time to give some last instructions to the goblins.
"Listen! We strong but together we stronger! Stay together!"
I can't tell if they understood but I hope I don't have to go search for them after this. A last look behind me reveals that all the goblins are ready and rearing to go.
We march towards the village and are soon spotted by the guards. There isn't really any cover so it was unavoidable. One of the three guards hurries inside probably to call for reinforcement while the two others bravely stand to face us.
I pity them, they seem to have an ordinary class that doesn't boost their stats and their level can't be above ten. Stat-wise I am superior in all aspects and we also hold a numerical advantage. This shouldn't be much of a challenge.
As soon as we get in range I sign for the slingshots and a volley of twenty stones flies towards the two guards. Most of them miss but the few that don't hit hard and make the guards buckle.
They don't have shields to defend themselves and their pikes can't reach us yet. One of them charges forward with reckless bravado but I can tell that he is limping a little with his left leg. The other one loses courage and turns to run in a very human-like manner leaving his colleague to die alone.
Or so he thought.
Here's a little piece of advice when dealing with goblins. Never turn tail and flee. The second you show them your back you become target number one.
Thankfully the goblins remember my instruction about remaining together so all that happens is that another volley of stones is launched and all twenty hit the running guard.
What kind of unholy aimbot is this? Before only a few hit now not a single one missed? Man, running away really isn't advisable.
Meanwhile, the more courageous guard has come close enough for me to be in range of his pike. He grins like an idiot and tries to skewer me. Too bad that I am faster than him and easily see through the trajectory of his pike thrust.
I dodge hearing a faint howl behind me as one of the goblins gets cut, idiot goblin, and slash at the guard's unprotected neck with my dagger. Since he thrust with all his might, the guard fails to pull back and defends to the ground desperately trying to stop the blood flowing from the cut on the side of his throat.
The goblins immediately go wild at the sight of blood and start hacking down on him. His corpse quickly becomes a mess and I call the goblins to continue. As we enter the village I check the other guard and find that he got stoned to death.
I can hear the sound of armor clanking and a group of eight guards with one in armor comes running. Upon seeing their dead colleagues they yell in anger and their speed increases.
Idiots. Running here and wasting their stamina before the fight even started? Fine by me.
Another salvo greets the running guards but since they aren't fleeing the aimbot doesn't activate. Half the stones hit them and one guard directly collapses after being hit on the head. The other seven continue on steadfastly but after the second salvo, they definitely look worse for wear. Only the one with a chest plate and a helmet doesn't seem bothered by the stones.
That one is strong. His level is clearly higher than those other guards. Should be around twenty...
Right, I didn't even notice I was doing that. Awesome, now I can know how strong Darwin is.
The guards are coming increasingly close and the goblins behind me can hardly hold themselves back from rushing into melee anymore.
"Get them! Kill enemy, be strong!"
My battle cry is picked up and echoed by the goblins. They throw themselves forward with wild abandon and try to be the first to draw blood with their new toys. You could think there is an achievement for drawing first blood.
In a rather practiced manner, the guards thrust forward with their pikes and some of the goblins get injured. Miraculously all of them managed to avoid being run through. Only the armored guard didn't thrust like the others. His weapon looks to be a halberd which he uses to swipe at the approaching goblins. Two goblins die immediately as the halberd cuts through their chests.
The armored guard roars in triumph but before he can realize that he has become enemy number one he is smacked on the head by two mallets. That helmet may be great but that kind of blunt force trauma isn't easily avoided.
As the armored guard is in a daze one of the goblins drops his cheap sword and snags the halberd. Without a weapon, the armored guard is basically done for.
After seeing the goblins overwhelming an opponent of such caliber I join the fray myself. I jump over the line the guards have formed and cut down two of them from behind. I turn to finish off the others but the goblins have already done so by surrounding them and are currently searching the bodies.
Again I hear shouting as another group approaches. We only lost three goblins in this fight so we are still able to fight effectively.
"Quick, this way! We have to support the guards against those green plagues."
A mob of villagers comes around the corner and freezes upon seeing us. Looks like that support you wanted to give came a little late, huh.
Hearing the villagers the goblins snap to attention and break into a run to get to them. I want to call them back but I can already feel the mental hammer take shape in my mind.
"Stay in walls! Kill all enemies inside walls!"
There. Happy? If they can get away and leave the village they will be spared otherwise they die.
Under the threat of getting my mind scrambled. Can't they talk to me themselves? No answer? Thought so.
