Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Dalei stood on the tallest mountain of Sambaria and watched in horror as the planet Kelar burned in the night sky. She could hear and feel the screams of anguish of the millions of inhabitants of the planet as they all perished. All, save for one. Khyl had been on Smbaria to try and plead with Zair. Now he stood beside the young goddess and watched as his home planet died.

"I...I'm sorry," Dalei sobbed, tears running down her golden cheeks.

"I don't blame you, Dalei. Zair would have done this anyway. We do...did not wish to worship him. He couldn't accept that."

The woman nodded her head and they continued to watch the planet die in silence. A silence that seemed to last forever. When neither could bear to watch the horror in the sky any longer they turned and began to make their way down the mountain.

They talked softly of memories of Kelar. Of her people, plants, and animals. Dalei brought up her first trip to the planet with Parvaian, and how she wished she knew where he was so that he could have stopped his brother.

"Parvaian has his reasons for not being around. Perhaps he didn't know his brother had something so horrible in mind. He would never abandon anyone without a good reason. When you see him again be gentle with him. The news of Kelar's death will be devastating to him."

"You talk as if you've known him all his life, Khyl."

"Close. I've known him most of mine," the man chuckled softly. His chuckle was soon replaced by a scream of pain as his body contorted and broke before bursting into flames.

"No," Dalei sobbed, placing a hand over her mouth. As she watched one of her dearest friends die before his eyes like those on his home planet had just died the air nearby began to crackle. She did not need to look to know that the sound was the universe being ripped open and Zair was walking through. "Wh-why?"

"This is all your fault, Dalei. I told you. Either you marry me or they die. If you refuse me again the next to go are the Sambarians you adore so much."

"No! Please no. I-I'll marry you. I swear. Just please do not harm any more innocent people."

Zair smiled coldly and took Dalei's hand in his, kissing her knuckles. "I knew you would eventually see eye to eye with me."
