Once they docked the ship at one of the colonies in the quadrant Decker called his crew to the bridge. "Okay, guys. Since we're here to get a job and we've been on the ship for three weeks without a break I figured you guys could take a quick break after you pick up supplies. Vax and Sherran, I want you two to go and get provisions. Cal and Mick, you two will go and get any non-food related supplies that we need. Jess, you're gonna be held responsible for making sure the batteries get recharged. I want you guys to get this stuff done by the time we depart in twenty-four hours. Jori and I are gonna go meet with this Zair guy that's hiring us to get more information on this job. Even though I'm giving you guys an entire day to get this shit done I advise getting it done sooner than later."
The men nodded their heads in agreement then started heading off to complete their assigned jobs. They knew from experience that departure times were not negotiable. Decker may have hated being called 'captain' and become a bounty hunter to get as far from the military as possible, but some habits die hard. The main one being his strictness when it came to time.
"Ready to go?" Jori looked over at Decker once the other men left to go about their tasks.
"As ready as I'll ever be. You guys are gonna owe me big for taking this job."
"You'll thank us when you get to be back on Earth."
"I never said I wanted to go back. I'm only doing this to keep you and the others from suffering too much damage from all of this artificial gravity and atmosphere shit."
Jori gave the other man a concerned look as he followed him off of the ship. "You were serious, weren't you? You really have not seen Catherine since the funeral?"
"Can we not talk about this? We're here on business."
"No. We need to talk about this, dude. You're not dealing or coping with Mandy's death properly. You need to go and see Catherine. You guys went through something seriously traumatic. You need to--"
"What I need to do is just get this job over and done with and get my ship repaired. Nothing else. Now shut up about it or I'm marooning your ass here."
Jori glared at Decker for a moment, but said nothing more and continued to walk to the meeting place with him in silence.
