The office door slammed shut leaving just the two of them inside the fairly lit room.
Standing in the center of the room, Cage stood tall with his hands clasped behind his back. Dressed in black denim jeans, jacket, and a black cotton shirt, Cage glanced around the office, as always it was neatly arranged with everything in its place, except for the number of instruments laid out on a red cloth resting on top of King's desk. His eyes lingered on a very familiar jagged blade glinting among the lineup of pistols and knives. It was the very one King had nearly killed him with during their first encounter on the field.
"Cage, I really don't want to waste time with this, so just tell me what happened okay?" King said from his chair backing Cage. His phone's bright screen could be seen over his shoulder as he scrolled through Instagram.
" I didn't find Banks"
King's fair thumb froze on his phone.
"You broke the rider's arm and beat someone nearly to death. My first question is why did you spare that person's life."
Cage swallowed and pursed his lips.
"That person wasn't Banks"
"Then who was that person?"
"I don't know"
"Yet you spared the life"
"Yes"
"Interesting... "King trailed off and resumed scrolling through Instagram, his fingers stopped on a Handle "A'sDoughnut", a video of a familiar pair of siblings doing a weird dance on a basketball court played on the screen.
Cage's eyes went wide once he recognized the voice of a little boy coming from King's phone. Sweat began to form on his forehead, his stomach felt like his insides were being weaved and his fingers twitched frantically as he tried to control his breathing.
King liked the video and commented
"Sick moves y'all🤯", then set down the phone out of sight.
"Cage... I need a report to give those executives, they're extremely testy with this Banks case and I don't want to deal with their crap. So save me the stress and just tell me everything. You've never failed a task, and yet right now, not only did you not succeed but you're lying to me. I might not be big on morals, but even you should know nothing's worth my anger... now for my second question, what are you hiding from me?" King asked in a lazy tone, he yawned stretching up his arms, and turned to face Cage. He raised a brow noticing Cage's uneasiness and placed his phone on the desk.
"Are you okay?" King asked just as his phone lit up with "Unread Messages" flashing across the screensaver. King watched with furrowed eyebrows as color drained from Cage's normally stoic face, he followed Cage's gaze to his phone which was still lit, and looked back at Cage who stood there, utterly frozen.
King frowned.
A sudden knock on the door interrupted the deadly atmosphere drawing both Men's attention to the door.
"Enter," King said through gritted teeth. His secretary rushed into the room quickly and placed a black envelope on his desk before rushing out, making sure to close the door quietly behind him.
King groaned and slouched in his seat scowling hatefully at the black envelope. He raised his gaze to see Cage looking at the envelope with just as much disdain as he had, although quite different from the statue he was before.
King stared at him silently, his eyes searching every inch of Cage's form.
"Cage..." he said suddenly, drawing Cage's attention from the envelope to him.
King leaned forward with his arms on the desk, his eyes trained on Cage.
"Take this crap away and make the necessary arrangements regarding whatever it says," he said with a lazy expression on his face, he yawned rather loudly as Cage walked towards him.
Just as Cage reached out to grab the envelope, King immediately grabbed his arm and swiftly grabbed the jagged blade and stabbed Cage's right armpit, turning the blade 180° before pulling it out forcefully. Cage groaned out in pain and blood gushed out of his arm, splashing on the desk and King's cold face. King let go of him and he staggered away from the desk grunting with blood flowing down his arms and the side of his clothes.
King stared with a blank expression as Cage continued to stagger back and forth, gritting his teeth forcefully to stop himself from groaning.
"You may leave now, but please keep in mind that this discussion isn't over, next time, I expect a full report of this incident," He said as he grabbed the blood-stained envelope from where it shifted to near the red cloth.
Cage staggered out of the office, groaning and grunting with each painful step he took, his arm felt like a heavy weight too heavy to balance as the pain radiated through to his right leg, the room began turning hazy as he reached the door, forcing his good arm to work, he pulled up door open and walked out of the room leaving an alarming trail of blood in his wake. Gasps and murmurs could be heard from beyond the office door as the door slowly closed, cutting off the noise from seeping into the room.
King tore open the envelope and read its contents, first, he raised his brows in surprise then a smirk formed on his face. He set down the letter and picked up his phone. Once he unlocked it, he opened his Messenger app and unread messages from "Chocolate" showed at the top, he tapped it opening their message space.
Chocolate: I saw your comment on Insta, that's Audrey's victory dance, would have loved to do it with you too... it's not too late though... I think.
King smirked. The AC blew from above his head, the cold breeze gently ruffling strands of his dark brown hair. King texted back.
King: Definitely not late, let's do it at the amusement park during the weekend, you think he'd like it?
Chocolate: Definitely... wait... does that mean you'll be coming to Seattle soon?!
King: 😎How does next Tuesday sound?
Chocolate: Awwwwwesomeeee!!!
King: 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I can't wait to see your faces again, let Audrey know I'm coming to reclaim my high scores on all my games, that little monster topped them by thousands! Doesn't he attend school anymore?
Chocolate: Lol, he does... though he had to...nah...he forced me to let him stay home and take care of me when I fell ill, I'm actually still recovering but I'm doing a lot better so he doesn't have to stay home with me.
King: You were sick, rather you are sick? why am I just hearing of this? what's wrong, please let me know, I can't bare the thought of you hurting
Chocolate: Just bring some white chocolate chips and coconut candies
King: Even I know that's not for sick people... but seriously, I feel bad you couldn't tell me about this, but I'm glad you're getting better now.
Chocolate: I'm sorry, I just didn't want to worry you.
King: You can make up for it
Chocolate: How?
King: A chocolate kiss
Chocolate: what is that?
King: You'll see, but you're going to let me have it yes?
Chocolate: As long as it's not my innocence, Sure.
King: 😅 I swear I'll be gentle
Chocolate: Nate if you even think of my sister the wrong way I'll tie you up and burn you to ashes.
King: Yikes! I swear not to harm a hair on her beautiful head Sir!
His phone's light lit up his face, he stroked his neatly trimmed beard as he smiled at his screen and turned around in his chair.
The office was organized, but not so artistically decorated with blood splattered across the floor and desk, a nameplate on the desk also stained with the dark red liquid displayed the name "NATHANIEL KING", the liquid rolled down the edges dripping into the red cloth, all the instrument laid out on it equally stained red.
