Evony~
I only stood there watching my place of refuge, burn down. A dark chill crawled down my spine at my father's voice...No, kades voices.
"I expected the alpha to come out here, but instead you came, that's quite curious. He should have noticed the burning house long before you I guess that means the rumors are true. He's dead." The amusement in his voice made me sick to my stomach, I just wanted him to be quiet! Be quiet and disappear... But I knew I had to face him again at some point. I can't avoid him forever, as long as he's alive he will always be the plague of my life.
Turning around I faced the man who has caused all the pain and suffering me and those around me have had to endure. My body felt weak, and I could feel my wolf's uncertainty she didn't want to cower away but all the pain and suffering we had to endure was because of him! He burned it into our minds that we were nothing.
Kade stood there crossing his arms with a smirk on his face, six wolves standing by ready to taste blood.
"He is, isn't he? You must be relieved, you no longer are his pet, your free to do as you wish, you could join me and we'll take back our pack destroying anyone who dares to defy us! I have an army just waiting to sink their teeth into the traitors who sided with their dead alpha, instead of me, once this is over they will become part of my newly formed pack, they will be our new family!"
He smiled gesturing to the wolves beside him, they believed every word he said they thought that being a part of his pack would give them everything they wanted. That he could give them what they wanted.
Anger started to bubble up inside of me, he always did this, he always manipulated people to do his dirty work. Now he expects me to come crawling back to him? After everything, he's done?! He only wants me as leverage against alpha Nathaniel! Clenching my fists I glared at him.
"Come daughter lets do this, together! With the alpha gone and my new army we-" I cut him off with a snarl.
"No!"
His smile faltered and he watched me surprised.
"You're nothing but a cruel man who's done nothing but hurt people! I would never help you after everything you did to me and I am not your daughter!"
I take a step forward growling, my wolf's uncertainty was fading as her own anger grew. This man was not family, he was a killer who killed my mother and my mate!
His smile dropped as he lowered his hands looking at me unamused. The wolves beside him were growling, ready to attack me, waiting for a signal.
"So you finally know the truth, heh I should have guessed you would've learned eventually shame if you weren't so useless I could have made you into something great. But I suppose with your blood I would have had to get rid of you either way... Your alpha blood really is something... "
A loud snarl broke the tension as Ethan jumped out in front of me snarling at my father. His voice spoke within my head as he growled at each of the wolves who dared to take a step closer.
"Evony, are you ok?!" I looked up to kade who was glaring down at Ethan. Responded with a nod, glaring at the man before us.
"Well, it seems life under your alphas wing has faired you well boy, so much so that now you're their beta, I wonder what your father would think of your betrayal."
Ethan snarled batting his fangs, ready to rip his throat out, but the wolves around kade were ready to jump in and fight. Ethan was strong but not strong enough to take on six wolves and kade. Even if I managed to shift, I have little to no experience in that form, alphas blood or not id be killed in seconds, we stood no chance against them.
Kade smirked crossing his arms as he looked down upon us. "This is quite a familiar scene don't you think? I remember it quite well, you made the same mistake as a pup by trying to protect that girl, in the end, you just ended up losing your sense of smell, how shameful, you can't track or hunt, I wonder how you managed to become beta, surely it must be your fighting skills? Should we test this theory of mine?"
His wolves stepped closer as tensions started to rise.
"I suppose I could forgive your insolence if you beg... Your alphas dead, you have no leader had over the pack and I'll spare you both from the bloodshed."
Ethan growled before shifting to his human form, as kade smiled and waited expectantly.
Ethan stood to his feet standing in front of me defensively as he spoke. "You're never getting this pack."
Kade only laughed in response to Ethan's words. "Axton had no family left and neither do you boy, so all I need to do is kill you and the pack would be mine, if you won't give it to me then I'll just take it!."
Before his wolves could stack I stepped up to face kade.
"Your wrong! Axton did have a family! A mate who is now luna of the pack... Me!"
Kade stared at us both only slightly surprised. "So it's true then..."
Ethan crossed his arms smirking much to kades disapproval. "And not only that, alpha Nathaniel is here and knows she's his daughter if you attack us you won't even have time to escape or call for backup before he chases you down, and rips out your heart...
Panic suddenly came over kades' features, at ethans bluff, he didn't know my father left this morning to raid one of his camps, he also didn't have the meant to fight of my father and his wolves.
" your bluffing...."
Ethan didn't even falter. "I certainly can't track you down with my damaged sense of smell but alpha Nathaniel is more than willing to hunt you down after finding out not only that you killed his mate, but that you had his daughter this entire time!"
Kade grit his teeth before looking at the wolves beside him.
"Retreat, now!" All six of them looked at each other before running off into the forest. Kade shifted to his wolf form, he was little more than a mangy brown wolf. He glared at both of us with a silent promise of his return before running off into the woods. I silently thanked whatever deity was watching over us, for them believing their bluff.
Ethan sighed in relief before turning around and looking at the burning cabin. I followed his gaze and watched as the building collapsed upon itself as the fires consumed everything. Questions still plagued my mind as we watched our childhood burn before us.
"Why didn't you want me coming out here?"
He didn't look at me, instead, he turned away so I couldn't see his face.
"He did want you to be sad... I knew coming here would only remind you of the night you both first met... i was just trying to do what I thought was right."
I silently contemplated his words not shre what to believe anymore, I had suddenly thought that there was some chance of Axton being alive, and I blindly ran right into danger. We could have both been killed because of my actions as I was desperately clinging to a false hope despite having all the proof I needed of his passing. The pain from losing him, and the packs distraught from the connection of their alpha being severed should have been enough, yet I jumped at the chance of him being alive. If this happens again someone could get seriously hurt. I'm only hurting myself and those around me.
"I can't just forget about him... But I know I can't keep doing this to myself and to the pack... I need to focus on what's coming and we need to prepare for the worst.
I gave a small smile to ethan who looked at me sorrowfully. " im sorry..." Shaking my head at his apology I sighed, this was my fault, not his, I can't blame him for anything that has happend.
"I won't chase these hopes and fantasies anymore... I can't let people get hurt because of me..." Looking back at the burning cabin we stood in silence.
"This isn't just a personal grudge anymore... This is war..."
We watched until the cabin was little more than rubble beneath the flames, a strange feeling stirring within me. "We should head back," Ethan spoke, pulling me out of my daze, I nodded as he started walking back towards the packhouse.
I only managed to take a few steps before my vision became blurry, so I stopped and held my head looking at the ground, as everything started to spin.
Ethan stopped in his tracks and glanced back at me confused. "Evony?"
Blinking a few times I tried to clear my head by taking a moment, but it only got worse as I started to see spots.
"Evony?" I glanced up at him, now seeing everything in threes. Something was wrong.
My entire body became weak as I was unable to hold myself up. I could hear ethan call my name one last time before everything went black.
