Avery exhaled loudly. She didn't know where Vincent was taking her. Sometime later Vincent stops the car in front of an old building. This was it. She thought that this is the place where she will die at the hands of Vincent. She waited patiently for an order that she knew Vincent liked to give and she wasn't wrong.
''Follow me, and don't speak'' Avery got out of the car and reach Vincent's side. He proceeded to enter the old building that cracked under his feet. There was no light and she was a little afraid of what is to come. She heard a sound a put her hand in her chest shaking. She peeped under her eyelashes at Vincent but he didn't react. What was that? A scream was heard throughout the house.
Vincent stop in front of a door and waited for his men to open it. A big muscular guy in a black suit opened the door and motion us in. Avery closed her eyes for a moment to adjust to the light. When she opened them she gasped. In the middle of the room, a man was tied to a chair. He had bruises all over his face but Avery recognized him. He was one of the two men that was chasing her before she found Vincent, or before Vincent found her and capture her.
She didn't make a sound. She was too stunning to talk to. Do these things happen for real? She only saw such scenes in movies, heck she didn't know that Mafia existed either. Avery took a step away from the scene but Vincent didn't let her. He grabbed her by her elbow and brought her close to him. He put her in front of him and encircle her waist with his hand.
''Where do you think you're going, princess?'' Vincent chuckles in her ear and Avery shivered from the noise. Her body responded immediately to Vincent's call and mold into him. Although her mind was screaming at her to step away, her body was glued to his.
''Do you know this man?'' He asked teasingly. He wanted to find out the relationship between this man and Avery. She shook her head and looked at the floor. Vincent released her and she instinctively took several steps away.
''Now Avery, don't be afraid.'' He teased her and grinned at her. He was playing games and enjoying every bit of this. Avery on the other hand knew what game he was playing. She knew that Vincent didn't know what this man wanted with her, but neither did she. So if he thought that she somehow was involved he was dearly mistaken.
''I'm not,'' Avery told him in one breath and got close to him. ''Very well.'' Vincent didn't expect her response and grinned like a child.
''This man, in case you don't know, is working for the Underground Association.'' She didn't know what that was but didn't question him either. '' Now tell me, sweet princess, what this man, who works with an assassin's organization, is after? '' She had no idea what this man wanted with her. In her entire life, she hadn't done anything wrong. She didn't hang out with dangerous people and she hadn't ever come to a disagreement with anyone. So why were they chasing her? To kill her?
''Don't test my patience.'' Vincent was getting angry with every second she didn't answer him. He wanted badly to find out and this woman was making him reach his limit.
''Vincent.'' Avery was tasting the waters. She wanted him to relax first in order for him to let her live.
He stood still. It was the first time hearing her saying out loud his name. She sounded out of breath and her voice awaken his body. '' I don't know this man. I found him outside my home.'' She said calmly. She was telling the truth but Vincent didn't know this and he was skeptical.
''He's all yours. Let's go.''He said to his men and left the room expecting her to follow him. She followed outside and reached the car. Vincent was leaning on the hood. When she went to enter he caught her wrist and cornered her, caging her with his hands. His face was very close to hers.
''Why are you testing my patience?'' Avery didn't know how to answer this. She wasn't doing anything, she was telling the truth.
''I'm not Vincent. I'm telling the truth why don't you believe me?'' This was getting out of hand and she forgot she was talking to the Capo and not some man she knew.
''What did you say?'' She knew she had made a mistake. Vincent was very angry. Heck, he was furious. For starters, he didn't know why he let her talk to him this way. This woman was doing something to him and he didn't know anything about her. He suddenly took a step back. It was like a new idea was plant in his mind. A new bad idea. Vincent was a man that planned his every move beforehand and calculate the outcome of his decisions.
''Maybe, you need to be put back in the cell, to reflect.'' He said maliciously and got in the car.
''Come on darling. Are you afraid of me now?'' he asked her. He was playing games once again. She wasn't going to be a victim this time even if it kills her. She had to show him that she's innocent. She didn't know why she wanted to prove to him her innocence so badly. But she knew the truth and the truth always comes out at the end. She couldn't also forget her brother. To find him she needed Vincent's help. He sure was a man with many connections.
She had made up her mind. She placed her hand on top of his and looked him in the eyes.
''No, I'm not.'' Vincent was startled. ''I hope you know what you're getting into.'' Avery didn't answer him right away.
''I don't.'' She wasn't sure what she was doing. But she always follows her heart.
''Good.'' And then something happened between them. Something that was unspoken. And they didn't know what was that changed.
