Everything was ready. She was going to escape tonight whatever it takes. She couldn't live with Vincent anymore. It was dangerous. He was dangerous. He conquers her mind in every possible way. It was only the first months. How about when a year pass?If she will still be here. She couldn't let herself like Vincent.
She had to go and find her brother. Getting Vincent's help was out of the question. She had everything ready. A bag was packed with water and food. She borrowed money from Michaella. Avery had forgotten where Michaella's loyalty lied. That was her first mistake. Her second mistake was trusting someone that she knew a few months. This life was difficult and she didn't know it yet. How could she? Her brother protected her from everyone. It was dark outside and she knew that the guards were changing shifts at 8 o clock. She had half an hour left. She carried her backpack on her shoulders and exited her room. Vincent was waiting in a dark corner for Avery. Michaella had informed him that she will escape tonight. He couldn't let her go. Not yet. When she exited her room he took a hold of her hand a cornered her in the wall.
''You think, you can escape?!''He said angrily. He was beyond angry, he was furious.'' Vincent'' Avery began to negotiate but Vincent had other ideas. ''Don't. You should have respected me when you had the chance. And now you want to escape me? You will never escape me. I will not allow that.'' He grabbed her by the hand and forced her to walk with him.
Avery was scared of him. She didn't know the extent of his actions. How far he can go.''Vincent listen to me.'' He abruptly turned around and grabbed her by her neck.''You should stop talking before I do something else.'' He let her go and dragged her to the basement by her elbow. Michaella was watching from the kitchen the commotion and had an evil smile on her face.
She was tired of playing the good girl who befriended Avery. She saw the interactions between her boss and her, and she couldn't take it. On the other hand, Cassandra was petrified. She followed Michaella when she went to talk to their boss and heard everything. But she couldn't do anything to help the poor girl from the jealousy.
Vincent dragged Avery to the basement. The guards were changing shifts and no one was there. He opened the first cell he saw and put her in.''Now you will never escape me.''Tears were streaming down her face as she looked at Vincent with blurry eyes. She was sobbing quietly but not for a specific reason. She was crying because she might never see her brother again, and stay down here for the rest of her life. For the crime that she wanted to continue her life as it was.
''Vincent.'' She tried once again but he was long gone. He informed his guards about Avery and commanded them to take care of her. Bring her food twice a day and guide her to the bathroom only once. He was furious with himself and with his lifestyle. He had to teach her a lesson. His men had started to question his authority. Vincent didn't want to look bad in the eyes of his men. The Mafia was everything he had.
He couldn't possibly be soft to her, he couldn't afford weaknesses. Vincent exited the basement and glance at his men seeing them trying to act like they are guarding and not watching what took place a minute ago. He ignored all of them and went upstairs to his office. He had to think carefully about his next move. The call he received was an important one. A shipment was destined to be delivered Friday night. He had to sabotage and take it. The Russians can't do business in his territory, and he was going to demonstrate exactly that.
Cassandra took it upon herself to put some sense to the arrogant caveman. She had a gut feeling that Vincent just did a great mistake. She knocked on his door gently. She had raised this boy from the day his parents died until now.'' Enter'' As always Vincent ordered everyone, even Cassandra. When he saw Cassandra he couldn't help but relax.''I know what you're doing here.'' He said to her. He had seen the way Cassandra treated Avery.
''Vincent.'' She said in a motherly voice. She loved this boy so much but he could be blind sometimes.'' Don't you think that it's weird?'' She started. Vincent didn't understand what she was saying.''What exactly is weird?'' He wanted to humor her.''The fact that from the time she came here she says the exact same thing.'' She continued. If she needed to push Vincent in the right direction, she would do exactly that.''I don't see how this is relevant to her trying to escape.I don't want to talk anymore.'' He said looking again at his laptop.
Cassandra sighed and stood up.''She wants to find her brother, maybe that's why she wanted to escape.'' She said and turned to leave.''Think about it darlin'. '' She opened the door and left. Vincent couldn't help but be troubled. Even if that was her reason she shouldn't have escaped.
He had to think carefully about it. He had other things to do. He called a meeting and exited his office.
Avery was lying on the cold hard floor. Her tears had dried and she was staring blankly at the wall.''Psst. Are you there?'' A voice sounded from the cell next to her. She got up and approached the front of the cell.''Yes, who are you?'' Someone else was here too. That was a relief. She had someone to talk to.
''I'm David, who are you?'' He sounded curious. Avery asked herself if it was wise to talk to someone she couldn't see.'' I'm Avery.''
''Nice to meet you, we're stuck here.''
