Chapter 3 - Professor Snape Ch 4

Kavitha's cheeks flushed. As much as it could with her skin color anyway. She avoided looking at Ajith."I-I, well..." her voice trailed, breaking.

Ajith straightened himself and walked towards her. "Here, you can use my computer."

Kavitha's eyes widened in surprise. He was just going to help her? With no insulting remark?

Ajith left to go upstairs leaving Kavitha with her thoughts spiraling. Kavitha had no idea why he was being nice to her. They were barely even friends.

Kavitha noticed some crumbs on the floor and bent down to pick them up. She scooped them in hand to efficiently pick them up.

"You don't need to do that." A voice called. It was Ajith, holding his computer carefully in his arms. Kavitha smiled lightly as she continued to scrape the bread crumbs off the floor. "It's ok, it's no trouble for me."

Two strong arms wrapped around her waist. Kavitha's cheeks felt hot. The warm sensation of Ajith's body sent pleasant tingles all over her. Ajith hoisted her up easily in a standing position. His arms were still wrapped loosely around her. "You don't listen, do you?"

Ajith's voice was deep and it sent chills. Kavitha immediately turned to face him. Ajith beat her to it though. "My mom will clean it up, you will get yourself dirty. The floors haven't been washed in a while." Then, without waiting for her to respond, he pushed her in the direction of his computer which was sitting on the glass table, and released her. The familiar fervor vanished from her body as quickly it appeared.

The computer was on with the screen brightly lit. Kavitha saw his background it was a cartoon version of Professor Severus Snape.

Kavitha chuckled heartedly at that. She couldn't help it. Something about the most feared potions masters of Hogwarts all bright-eyed and rosy-cheeked struck her fancy.

"Something amusing?" Ajith asked his voice monotone as he leaned against the table. Kavitha smiled childish,y somehow having the confidence to look in those masterly amber orbs of his.

"You like Professor Snape?" she asked. Ajith gave a curt nod. Kavitha grinned excitedly. "He's magnificent! He is the mastermind of potions which is chemistry. He had a good heart and he has saved Harry so many times-"

Ajith cut her off her rampant. "He also is misunderstood. Like me." his voice was hard but there were slight cracks in it.

Kavitha looked at him timidly. She sensed sadness from his hardened face. She had no idea, he felt this way. Despite, Ajith not saying much, she almost understood in somehow.

"I'm sorry." She whispered. She didn't know what else to say. She wanted to comfort him but didn't know-how. But how can she, after all that taunts and ridiculing. She still hoped he was ok, however.

Ajith looked at her accusingly. "I don't need your pity." His eyes were blazing. Kavitha's heart fell.

"I'm not giving pity!" she pleaded. "I'm sympathetic towards you! I know how you feel." Ajith looks at her, his eyes piercing. "You don't," Ajith replied simply.

"But I-" Ajith held up his hand to stop her. "Hurry up and print your document."

Kavitha refrained from pouting. She wanted Ajith to listen to her, but she knows she crossed the line. Sulking, she typed in the software, Kamal used. She then pulled up Kamal's work.

Ajith bent down to see the screen."Is this the only sheet you need to print?" Kavitha nodded numbly. Ajith then plugged in a u-drive and saved the document to his computer and then clicked print.

The print started to buzz and once the ivory paper slipped out it stopped. Ajith took the piece of paper, glancing at it for a second, and handed it to Kavitha without even looking at her. Kavitha retrieved it without touching his fingers. She felt hurt.

"Everything all good?" Ajith asked. Kavitha wordlessly nodded, her gaze averted to her shoes.

Ajith seemed to sense she was upset. "Listen, Suresh..." he started. Kavitha wasn't going to let him speak. "I'm gonna take my leave now, Thank you for letting me use your printer." She then turned on her heel and made her way to the door. After she placed on her boots, she turned to the door. Kavitha wanted Ajith to confide in her. But he was making it very difficult.

Ajith grabbed her by her wrist. Kavitha struggled to break free. The warmth appeared welcoming on her skin. It was the worst type of comforting. Kavitha loathed it as much as she welcomed it. Kavitha tried to break free but his grip was too strong. Giving up, she turned to face him. Ajith released her and zipped up her jacket. Then he tucked her hair into her hood and pulled it up.

Kavitha gaped at him. Ajith shrugged. "It's cold outside." At this point, Kavitha can't take it anymore. "Why can't you open up?" She asked helplessly.

Ajith froze, his eyes never leaving hers. Seeing that he wasn't going to say anything. Kavitha continued. "You always ridiculed me and made me feel so small for nothing. Even when I attempt to be nice to you, you don't let me. Why are you always so cold to me?" Kavitha felt tears prickling in her eyes. "Yet, you switch up and be nice to me to make me confused. Is it manipulation? I don't know."

Ajith stayed mute. His expressive eyes gleaming. He stepped closer to her, his eyes not betraying any emotion. Kavitha shook her head. "I hope you have a good night, Ajith." She turned, opened the door, and left.

Everything hurt, however, nothing hurt more when he called her by her last name. It hurt tremendously even though it shouldn't. As they are barely even friends.
