Kavitha turned the corners of her lips upon her aching face.
"It's ok, Erik" She stated softly. "It's ok, Erik. I hope one day you'll find something you deeply care about."
Erik paid her no attention. Kavitha smiled firmly before turning to gaze out the window to avoid the uncomfortable tension that was created.
It was silent in the car for a while.
Until Vren broke the silence. "So..." He started as he was adjusting the rearview mirror to have a lookout of what was behind the car as he drove.
Kavitha raised an eyebrow. "So?" she smiled. Vren grinned. "What's your ethnicity? If you don't mind me asking." Kavitha relaxed her features in a deadpan. "In that case, I do mind actually." Her tone drained of everything that makes her entity.
Vren's face fell. "Uh, sorry about that Kavi." He seemed genuinely sorry to offend her without intent.
Kavitha grinned, showing the gleam of her teeth while Vren looked at her sincerely confused.
"Kidding!, I don't mind." Kavitha laughed light-heartedly. Vince laughed out loud. His voice booming. "She tricked, you, V."
Vren scoffed. "V? Best nickname you got? Your name starts with a V as well. Won't it get confusing?" He asked condescendingly but playful at the same time.
"She tricked, you..." Vince trailed off. His voice, thoughtful. Vren raised an eyebrow. Kavitha leaned forward to hear Vren's new nickname while Erik glowered at his phone. He was still upset. Kavitha decided she will make it up to him later.
"She tricked you, you Motion Wizard!" Vince declared finally. Vren chuckled. "Well, my twin. I'm impressed." Vince scrunched up his face. "You should be" He replied hotly.
Kavitha giggled. "Fitting, cause you are great at Physics I can tell." Vren smiled gratefully at her. Vince mirrored Vren's grin. "Love Kinematics, my specialty," Vren said proudly. Kavitha parted her lips in a smile. "Yessss! Although, I'm best at the unit: sound. and waves" She admitted. "You would love Rebecca. She's amazing at Physics. It's like her superpower." Kavitha glowed at complimenting her best friend, thinking about all the times Rebecca patiently helped her. Vren smiled. "I'd love to meet her." Kavitha grinned. You guys will make good friends I know." Vince smiled. "Science just slaps." Kavitha and Vren nodded in agreement.
Erik interrupted the moment. "Motion Wizard?" Erik asked, his eyes withdrew from his phone.
Kavitha gazed at him under her eyelashes, unsure whether to look him in the eye or not. "Uh, you know. Since it is a unit in Physics." Kavitha never saw Erik so dumbfounded. That was saying something since it was his signature look during class. "Kinematics? Motion of Objects?" Kavitha offered. Kavitha's heart dropped when Erik shook his head.
Her disappointment made her barely hear Vince say. "Erik really said 'What the hell is v= u +at?'" Vren snorted. Kavitha weakly smiled, though her mind was elsewhere.
The thing about having a mega crush on someone is that Kavitha has this crisp perfect image of Erik, though she knows flaws are supposed to make her love him more. That was true love defined to be.
However, more and more Kavitha saw Erik's flaws, the more, she wondered if they truly confided in her adoration of him.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Kavitha directed her attention to the front. "How much longer until we reach the Youth Carnival?" She asked.
Vince glanced at his watch. He smiled at her through the rearview mirror, his blonde hair gleaming in the sunlight. It suited Vince profoundly.
"Just a half-hour left." Vince calculated, smiling. "Aight." Vren inputted. Kavitha chortled inwardly. She loved Vren's lingo.
Kavitha thought for a moment. "Vince, I love your hair!" She said randomly. Vren grinned. "Yeah, I can never pull it off like Vince."
Vince chuckled with gratitude. "Thanks, lil bro." Vince smiled gently, crinkling his almond eyes. "Thanks!" Vince said to Kavitha. Kavitha smiled, absentmindedly tugging at her long black hair. It is so long that she can practically sit on it. It reached the upper part of her thighs. Her hair was her utmost pride and joy. She can never do anything drastic to it.
Erik seemed to read Kavitha's thoughts as he said something unexpected. "You should dye your hair blonde like Vince."
Kavitha stared at him incredulously. Erik turned to face her, his grin seemed to appear out of nowhere. "Really! You would look so hot."
"Ummmmm" Vren sounded as uncomfortable as she felt inside. Vince shifted his position to look at Kavitha intently. "Black hair makes you look like a doll very classy and sweet. You can for sure pull off blonde hair. It will add more warmth to your face and make your brown eyes stand out."
Kavitha smiled at that. Though, she preferred to stick to the classier version of herself. Erk jolted a corner of his mouth up. "Yeah, but she would look so hot and fierce," Erik added.
"Erik!" Vince snapped. "She can dye her hair if she wants to. That is not up to you to decide." Vince looked livid while Vren looked disgusted. It was such a sibling moment. Vren shook his head. "Erik, if you like blond hair so much, dye your own hair!" Kavitha instantly felt better. "Yeah! I think it would bring out your cheekbones." She suggested helpfully.
Vince laughed. "You don't have to be nice, Kavi. I would learn telekinesis before he actually dyes his hair blonde."
Kavitha smiled lightly. Erik rolled his eyes. "That wasn't what I meant." Erik grumbled. Vren smirked at his cocky friend. "Wasn't it though?" Kavitha smiled. It was absurd to see defeat in Erik. Luckily, she wouldn't have to dye her hair.
Somehow, her thoughts drifted to Ajith. She still needed to apologize to him. She wondered what he would think of her dying her hair. Somehow, the thought of Ajith compelling her to dye her hair or even anything doesn't seem to make a clear visual in her mind. She can't possibly imagine him doing it, regardless of his crudeness and reservedness.
Erik's voice broke her out of her daze. "Call me, if you are planning to dye your hair. I'd 'die" to take you to glam you up." His smile was smug as ever. Kavitha didn't even try to fake laugh at his pun. She felt a sense of tiredness wash over her. It seemed wrong that Erik thought she needs to glam up in the first place.
Vren groaned while Vince facepalmed.
Kavitha's insides were flamed. It doesn't seem to be in a good way.
