Chereads / Ghost: Countdown / Chapter 2 - Meeting

Chapter 2 - Meeting

The meeting room, filled with several contractors. One of em them was Jeremy, who was making sure all the files were ready. He looked at his watch, 2 hours already has passed. He sighed

"Daniel's late again?" One of the contractors asked as he took off his earphones that was connected to his phone.

"Yep, he is late again" Jeremy answered him with a disappointing tone. "I give him 10 more minutes"

"I bet 5 dollars he will arrive in 1 minute," Another contractor said as he looked up from his book.

"Are you sure about that Makarov?" The contractor earlier asked, thinking he was joking.

And right on cue, the door opened, revealing Daniel and Lena behind him. "Hey guys, sorry I'm late."

Makarov looked at the contractor, and put his hand up, "5 dollars James"

James grumbled and handed Makarov the money.

Jeremy rolled his eyes at the two, before looking at his little brother. "Daniel, just because you are one of the founders of this company doesn't mean you get to be late." He started scolding his little brother, "It sets a bad example"

Daniel lifted up his hands in an apologizing manner, "It won't happen again"

Jeremy grumbled, and then gestured at him and Lena to take a seat.

"So what we got?" Lena asked once she and Daniel sat down.

Jeremy handed the files to the contractor on his left, who handed the remaining files to the rest. "It's a raiding, search and destroy, and securing HVT contract." He explains, "Just to make sure everyone's on the same page, Revolver and his group of mercs recently has been spotted around and in Russia, and with the recent of attacks by random group of Insurgents, it's no coincidence the mercs are backing them up. Now, the Russians found their outposts and hideouts. One of em is located somewhere in Hamar-Dahan, the mountain tops in Siberia. The exact coordinates is in the files"

The contractors then opened the files, the first page showing the coordinates of the outpost.

"Now we don't know the exact number of mercenaries in there but it's estimated around 20 to 40. Search and Destroy, the usual, weapons and the like." He turned to another page before continuing, "For the HVT, the person you are capturing is Thomas Rhys, aged 35 ,former agent of WPTO, wanted for being a traitor and potentially has intel on Revolver on him and his other mercs whereabouts. He was spotted among them when the Russians scanned the outpost via satellite. Make sure he gets back alive, break his legs if you have to."

The contractors then turned the pages to the information of the HVT, which includes a picture of the man.

Fair tone skin, brown messy hair with his face giving a crazy look.

"For the mission, you will rendezvous with a small team of Russian soldiers at the nearby settlement. They will give you fire support and an EVAC once every objective is done." Jeremy then asked, "Any questions?"

One of the contractors raised his hand, "Yeah, why are we the one doing this? And not the Russian military or any Russian based PMCs?"

"Too many outposts and hideouts belonging to the mercs and insurgents so there werent enough soldiers and contractors to deal with all of it, which is why you guys and other PMCs are hired. Although this one was personally given to you guys by WPTO" Jeremy explained, "Does that satisfies your question Nathan?"

The contractor, Nathan, nodded with an appreciated look.

"Anything else?" Jeremy asked. Daniel and the contractor shook their heads.

"Good, get ready your things, do whatever you need. You will leave tonight, at 2300 to be precise. Dismiss"

One by one, everyone left the room.

....

The cafeteria, a place for the contractors to get some food when they were in the base. Every PMC had it. Currently, there were not a lot of contractors in there, as most contractors already had their breakfast earlier. But Daniel hadn't, which was he was in the cafeteria.

He got some sandwiches and a cup of hot coffee. He started taking a bite off his sandwich as he reads the file's content, to know better about the target.

"Think he's a hotshot who can evade any consequences, heh, suuure." Daniel chuckled as he read that part of the info, and took a sip of his coffee, before turning to another page, and then taking a bite of his sandwich.

"This seat taken boss?" A voice asked, and Daniel looked up, to see its Nathan and another Ghost.

"Yeah, sure" He answered with his mouth full, and quickly swallowed the bread. "Make yourself comfortable". He then closed the file.

The two took a sit, "So boss, me and Aminah, we decided to quit being a contractor." Nathan announced to Daniel, "Once we dealt with the upcoming raid that is and at least temporarily for me." He quickly added.

"Any reason?" Daniel asked with a surprised look

"You heard about the civil war that's going in Hungary?" Nathan asked randomly, which Daniel nodded with a curious expression, wanting know where this was going. "Well, both sides are making sure that no one excluding their own allies won't be involved. Which means PMC won't be hired there. And I want to help my country, so that's why." Nathan explained as well as telling his intentions.

Daniel nodded to show that he understood. "And you Aminah?"

"I got enough money to help out with my family's buisness, so I thought this will be my last one before going back to a normal life." She explained, "Nothing special"

"I see.... " Daniel felt a little bit of sadness to see them go as he enjoyed their company as part of his team but he respected their decision. "Anyways, is there a reason why you both tell me this now?"

"Well, we don't want to wait for too long for the approval paper from you since you are known to be late." Aminah cheekily said as she smirked, "No offense boss, but we all know you will be lazy after a firefight."

Daniel rolled his eyes, "Veeeery funny" but he laughed softly which lead to the two to join in before he continued, " You two will get the approval paper later. Anything else?"

The two shook their heads.

"Great, then I command you both to leave me so I can have my breakfast in piece." He told them in a joking manner, which resulted in them mockingly saluted to him before leaving him alone.

He chuckled softly, and then finished his breakfast before going off to do what he needs and preparing for the raid tomorrow.

Soon, night time arrived. Daniel and his team boarded the Helo and flew off to Russia.
