Synopsis
"Is there an Al Vandetta here?" The man standing in front of me had placed down a bag of sour cream chips. He brushed the smokey black curl away from his eyes before I gave him a once over. He was wearing a thin jacket over a Gokemaine shirt, he had shorts on while there was snow on the ground, he looked like a little boy who had dressed himself for the first time. I was shocked to see the amber eyes I had known staring back at me. Scars made up the lower part of his face, leaving almost no unscarred flesh. I couldn't help but stare. I felt like crying and screaming at him. I heard Feri moving in the back, he came back into the storefront with a box full of small chip bags. He must've seen something wrong with the way I was interacting with the kid because he slid into the counter with me. He placed his hand lightly onto the killing bat. He looked at the boy. The kid taking it as a question repeated himself, "I'm looking for Al Vandetta." Feri's mouth remained slightly agape as a breathy word escaped his mouth. "Jesse." Jesse's eyes lit up with recognition. It's Ami and Feri's senior year, but after things settle, they change. This year will be full of challenges, and hard decisions, not to mention fear.

Chapter 1 - Late night talks

I was listening to my sleeping playlist. My feet tangled into the heap of blankets I had cast across my bed. My phone read twelve minutes until three. I plowed my fingers through my matted hair. It was sweltering on the top bunk this morning. I regretted leaving the fan in the attic last November. I made a mental note to make Feri climb the wooden hill into the attic to reclaim the old box fan. I heard my brother let out a groan. He thrashed around before a sigh escaped his lips. "Feri?" I whisper yelled.

"What?" I could tell he was stretching by the whine in his voice. "How long've you been up?" He asked me, a slight whine lining the words.

"Honestly I don't even remember falling asleep." I turned to face the far wall of our room.

"Uh, yeah dumbass that's how that works." he snorted at me from the lower bunk. I moved to hang off the side, my hair slung down near his face. I gave him a look as he sat upon his elbows. "Don't scrunch your nose at me, Ami, it's not my fault you got fewer brain cells than khaki, the goldfish." His lips were chewed all to pieces but in the streetlight shine from the window made them look bloody.

"At least I don't look like a crusty ass toe, that fell off of a hearse," I hissed at him as he pulled out his phone, "What time is it old crusty one?" He sighed and pawed at the notification bar.

"It's four to three, Ami." He clicked off his phone and laid his head back. With a great grunt of effort, I swept my head back up onto my bunk. "Are you going back to bed, or do you want the lights?" I covered my head up with the blanket, the heat trapped under there was enough to make me kick the blanket away.

"Feri, it's not even six of course we need the lights off." I heard him sigh, a car drove through the old alley next to our room. I checked my phone, a notification popped up, claiming that somebody had tried to sign into my phone. I set it down with a groan, I wiped my eyes leaving colorful spots clouding my vision. The lamp flickered off and I heard him shift the plastic on the bed. "G'night toe."

"Good night brain dead." He hissed at me while I turned to face my wall. I didn't remember falling asleep, but I was woken up to a high pitched whine. The whining came in short sudden bursts resonating with me that I should be recognizing the sound. "That sounds like a ghoul." he moaned shifting on his mattress. The sound ran around my brain like a racehorse, each burst of the cry pounding in my head. I sat up, panic settling in as it hit me that it was the sound of a baby or a toddler I should say. I jumped the six feet to the floor landing hard on my feet. "It's not the West's baby is it?" He slid out of his bed pajama pants sweeping the stained grey carpet. I dashed down the slender hallway, sure I looked ridiculous, but Bee can get out of her bed, she could have lost her grip and hit the floor again. Her bedroom door was slightly opened, but she had gone quiet.

"Bee?"
