Intervar sat in a hard plastic chair, listening to his parents lecture him.
Needless to say, his parents were unhappy with him for peering into a restricted area of the building, and they are now in a meeting with some of the higher-ups.
They sat rigid and irritated on either side of him.
The higher-ups were expected any minute, and he had no idea who they were, but something about his mother's frenetic pacing told him, they thought very highly of these people.
His father didn't say much, preferring to let the air in the room hang thick, allowing Intervar to sit in silence and reflect on his choices.
Donn, on the other hand, didn't seem to mind, although she did sympathize with her owner.
He slouched as much as he could in his chair, which wasn't much due to his parents' constant watch on his behavior. He couldn't say he regretted his actions much in this situation, more than once, he had been nearly arrested in the past. His parents would never allow such stain on their reputation. So this wasn't a big surprise when he wondered off and went straight into a restricted area.
And he'll probably do it again right after this meeting, or something even worse. Oh well, the world keeps spinning and we move on.
Soon after, a group of suit-clad individuals entered, including a man and woman standing side by side, the man with a solemn expression and the woman appearing way too thrilled to be here.
His parents sat up straight, and Intervar tried to at least have the decency to look guilty.
"So, your son has committed a crime." As he pulled out some documents, the man said.
Standing 5' 0" tall, this curly, dark brown haired white skinned man has a huge mark on his head that Intervar assumed was left behind following a surgery.
"I know Mr. Wune, but he won't ever-" His mother tried to jump in but was cut off.
"We're confident he won't, but Intervar, is that your name?"
Intervar nodded slowly as the man glanced at him.
"Um, yes sir." The whole situation felt off to him. The man very casual while he was expecting to be yelled at or something of the same caliber. This man acted like this was a daily occurrence.
"Are you not twenty-one, Intervar?" The man inquired.
"I am, sir."
"Are you aware that theft, breaking and entering, violating security, and property damage can all land you in jail?"
"Yes, sir."
'When the assignment was handed from someone of royalty, any action taken or words spoken cannot be held against the person or persons concerned.'
He remembered King Kirk telling him to go to Queen Mantis's court and acquire information, and that's what Intervar had done was technically part of the process.
Though he was sure he'd be laughed at and hung if that were to happen. But picturing it would be funny.
If Queen Sei were in a good mood, she would try to defend him. Though he doubts she would want to explain why she had a person of Dohi, gathering information from the people of Clossyo and reporting it to the people of Onama, while in the mist of war.
"We're letting you go with a warning because you have a clean record and your family has helped our people over the years and I don't get paid enough for this. Eda Scott, on the other hand, is standing alongside me."
When he looked at Eda, she smiled, but it was an awful smile.
She had an aura around her like she seemed happier to see you fail than triumph.
"She'll be staying with you for a while, making sure Intervar doesn't get into any mischief. Eda will join Intervar if he decides to leave the house."
"What will happen if we don't agree?" His father was the one who spoke up.
"He'll go to jail since he's a legal adult. For a very long time, most likely. Having Eda around you will be beneficial to you."
"Our maid will prepare a room for Eda. Is she looking for a place near Intervar's or any room?" The disrespect was noticeable in his father's voice.
"Any room, I'm assuming he doesn't sneak out a lot." Mr. Wune joked as he put some papers away.
"Oh no, never," his mother rushed out, "he's a wonderful child."
If it wasn't a meeting he was dealing with, it was finishing up tasks or training. And there had been almost five battles since Sei declared war on them. He'll have to do something about Eda if another meeting comes up or another battle arises.
"I'm confident that won't be a problem." Eda finally spoke up, her voice resembling nails on a chalkboard.
She had that look in her eye, as if she was planning to make his life unpleasant on purpose. This tall and unattractive tan-skinned woman has dirty black hair is tied into a neck length braid. Her eyes are narrow and hazel, she has a monobrow, angled lips, and huge ears.
"That's all there is to it. Intervar, you appear to be a good kid, and I don't expect you to repeat this behavior. But keep in mind that the next time you're in trouble, it'll be in jail." Mr. Wune gave him a friendly smile before departing with the rest of his staff, leaving Eda behind.
He still had to go see The Promise Ghost at five-thirty on Sydney Street, but it was just a two-hour walk away.
There was nothing he couldn't handle, except perhaps the entity known as Eda. He stood up and joined his parents. Donn yawned as he rose from beneath his mother's chair, where she had been hiding.
'She must have just woken up,' Intervar thought as she moved to cling to his shoulders.
Eda leaped when she saw her, so she must have scared her as well.
"What is that thing?" She looked at Donn with a disgusted expression on her face.
Intervar's eyes furrowed in wrath as his parents looked at her puzzled.
"That's Mr and Mrs. Davani's least favorite child, Donn. She is, on the other hand, is still their child, and you will not use that tone with her or about her."
Miss Katie entered the room, dissatisfied with what she had heard.
"In any case, Micheal will be accompanying Intervar and Donn to the fair. You'd better get ready because it's already four forty-six. Michael will be at the door to greet you."
"And who is Michael?" Eda asked, smoothing out her dress.
"Our security," She cast a glance towards his parents.
Intervar shot her a look, as to say 'What are you doing?'
"Sorry, first thing that came to mind." She mouth back to him, tilting her head apologetically.
Intervar remembered seeing that look when he was younger.
He remembered it best when he refused to eat his vegetables and Miss Katie threatened to report him to the 'park people,' who would shut down the park.
"I would like to meet him and Intervar will not be leaving this house," Eda was quick to snuff out any hope.
"Why don't you come meet Michael? I'm sure he would like to meet you," The maid's voice was tight.
Miss Katie escorted Eda down the corridor, leaving the family alone.
"I'll be upstairs," The youngest of the family quickly excused himself before anything else arisen. Silently thankful for the maid.
Donn was quickly dressed in a skirt and a black blouse, and he was dressed in his usual suit. He was about to visit The Promise Ghost, but he didn't need Eda to trail him; he had Gavin to do that already.
"Look for Christoph Mern, but don't do anything that will get you arrested. Come back if you think your next move will be caught or if you believe you are being followed. We can't take any more chances." He told her with a serious tone, he knew she wouldn't do anything stupid like that but he wanted to make sure.
He went downstairs to get Michael, leaving the window open in case she returned later. He was still talking to Eda and Miss Katie near the entrance door when he noticed Intervar.
Miss Katie rushed over, then she mouthed, "He doesn't know."
He nodded, he already assumed Katie wouldn't say anything about the meeting but appreciated her updating him anyways.
"Alright, let's get going." Michael said as he opened the door.
"Is Eda not coming with us?" Intervar inquired.
"No, I have faith in Michael's ability to keep everything under control." She swooned, causing Intervar to make a face, "Is Donn not coming with you?" She face changed quickly at the mention of the animal.
"No, she's sound asleep, and I didn't want to wake her up."
Eda stared him down and Intervar held her look, he smiled when she quickly turned her eyes towards Michael.
"Well have fun, I guess. I'll go set up my room." Eda quickly walked away, leaving them at the door.
"So where are we heading?" Michael closed the door behind them.
"Mount Blvd, Sydney Street. I'm seeing a friend, it's a personal thing."
"That's a long walk, sure you don't need me to come with?" He looked confused at the younger male.
"I'm positive, I'm sure you'll be at the library?"
"Definitely."
The walk took longer than he expected and he was pretty sure he was late. When he got there, the street was abandoned.
'They must've left, it does look late. But the letter did say come as soon as you can.' He thought and looked around, yet nobody showed up. After a few minutes, he was about ready to go home; but then he heard a voice.
When he looked back, he noticed a short man wearing a large hoodie, but the jeans were fine.
They appeared to be homeless, but the streetlights reflected off of multiple facial piercings, they must've had money. He thinks he can make how horns under the hood, but he wasn't sure.
"Are you The Promise Ghost?" He asked carefully, he must've sounded insane to any other person.
"No, I'm the homeless guy from down the road asking for a cigarette. Who else would be meeting you in a deserted location?" They asked harshly, not caring if they offend Intervar or not.
"I'm sorry?" He's met a lot of rude people, but he didn't expect them to be more respectful when doing business.
"Just follow me and shut the hell up."
Intervar swiftly pursued them as they turned on their heels.
He had no idea where they were headed and was not about to inquire. Whoever this person was clearly hated society, or maybe just him. You'd think they would treat someone better when they get message was from the queen.
