Lydia is such a loving, sweet, gentle, quiet, understanding person. There's
really no one that I know who dislikes her. She's not very loud, she loves to be
quiet and peaceful, very patient and loves to help everyone. Lydia grew up
with her parents in the countryside, with her four brothers and five sisters.
Lydia's struggle in life started as a young girl. She was in high school, form five
to be exact. When her Mom said some very harsh stuff to her, just to stop her
from school. Her mom told her that she doesn't see any reasons in her going to
school. Since all she does is run after men.
Lydia felt hurt and ashamed, even though it wasn't true. How her Mom made it
sound, it hurt a lot. Two weeks later her classmates and their form teacher
came to visit her. They pleaded with Lydia's Mom to let her return to school, if
it's at least to write the final exams. Surprisingly after pleading with her, she
agreed to it. Lydia was overwhelmed with happiness. It's the break she'd been
wishing for.
During this time of writing exams, there was this guy from three forms higher.
His name, Chris Hugo. He would usually tell Lydia during there school time,
that she was his soulmate. That she was the most beautiful girl in the world,
even that she was everything to him and that he'll wait for her, since the day
she started high school.
Chris was such a gentleman, also had a good education, quiet and not forgetting
how dark and handsome he was.
Chris never touched her, much less say a bad word to her. Every morning he
would be waiting on the corridor just to greet her, saying the sweetest rhymes,
just to see her smile. Lydia never took him to be that serious, she always
thought he was fooling around. Just as exams were finished he came up to her
for the first time, in Lydia's time of knowing him, did she ever saw him so
serious.
"Is something the matter?" Lydia asked.
"No I just need to ask you something." He said.
"Okay then, I'm listening." Said Lydia.
"Not right now, I need to speak to you in private, meet me at lunch time, on the
stairs of block E."
Said Chris.
Lydia and Chris met at block E on the stairs as planned, she was a bit anxious,
not knowing what's with him today, that day. Chris asked Lydia to hold her
hands, which was very strange for her, but she played on. To her surprise,
Chris asked Lydia to marry him, she yanked her hands away as fast as she
could. Lydia asked him if he was mad or out of his mind. Lydia told Chris that
she can't get married now for reasons such as, she's too young, she's still in
school. I believe she just wasn't ready for such a big step, up.
He looked so sad, he just walked away without saying another word. His
feelings got hurt, but Lydia didn't know what to do, she was naive to these
things. She never saw him after that day.
Little did she know that she would regret turning this proposal down, later in
the future.
Lydia asked around, to some of his friends also, no one knew of his where
about. She then asked one of his neighbors, if they had seen him lately. They
said that Chris went job hunting and got through to a good job, it's a bit distant
from here, so he's going to stay up there.
After graduation, there was nothing left for Lydia to do, but stay at home. She
told her Mom that she can go and apply for a job at a nearby grocery as a
cashier. They did call but her Mom secretly carried Lydia's two younger sisters,
Ruth and Rose for the interview. She then told Lydia about it on their return
home.
Lydia got so angry at her mom, but could not show it. Knowing Lydia she would
put it behind her, cry it out in the shower or something and move on.
Eventually her parents did get her a job, Geriatric as we know it now, before
was taking care of the elderly. These jobs came as sleep-in jobs, so the person
that gets this job has to stay at the employers home. Only to visit their own
home on weekends or once a month.
After staying and working at that strange place for a couple of weeks and crying
herself to sleep almost every night, Lydia actually liked taking
woman. She learned a lot, even though she still misses home a lot. She kind-of
enjoyed the time away.
The old woman had three sons, early one morning the eldest son came to see
his mom at around 6:30am. She was certainly still asleep at that time.
"Why would he come so early, it's probably important," Lydia wondered.
Lydia put her thoughts aside, opened the door and let him in.
"Seeing that she was already awake, why not brush my teeth and wash my
face while he was talking to his mom," Lydia thought.
Turning around after brushing her teeth, she almost bumped in to him
standing in the open door way. Lydia asked him if he needed something but he
just nodded, no and took a step closer to her. She stepped back and asked him
to leave, he took no heed. Just as he placed his hand on her stomach, his mom
called out to her from the bedroom, Lydia answered and told her that her son
is here to see her. He turned around and went to the bedroom to see his mom.
That did not end well, he made sure that he went to Lydia's parents before she
had a chance to tell them anything. He told them to come and take Lydia home,
that she was caught sneaking a security guard through the sliding window.
I have known Lydia almost all my life, she would never do something like that.
That guy couldn't get what he went there for, so he ratted on her, making her
parents scold her. She felt very humiliated, everyone watched her differently.
Do you think her parents believed her? No way, they believed that guy because
he was elder than them.
"How could they believe him, I'm their daughter, doesn't that count?" Lydia
questioned herself, over and over again.
Lydia couldn't believe that no one knew her enough to know that she couldn't
and wouldn't do anything so ruthless.
