Two weeks of training for Ryuji and Mako passed by extremely fast, and today is the big day the day for the selection matches in order to make it on the list for the big tournament.
They both are already at school as they arrived earlier this morning to register ahead of time. As they were to excited to wait any longer.
Right now they are inside the arena everyone who wants to take part and show what they have in the selection exam is sitting in their seats waiting for their name to be called so they can go up and fight.
This was the same arena that the school does there combat classes in, as it is the only one big enough and can house around a dozen small fighting rings inside. Their are around 1000 students trying out for the tournament, the way that they are weening them out is simple 5 minute 1v1 matches.
They would have to ween those 1000 students down to the allotted 50 for the big tournament, so for the next two days they will be pretty much fighting non-stop to find out who wins and can move on to the next round.
They have been sitting for 3 hours already when Mako is called up to before Ryuji for his first fight, He is ring 12 the last one in one of the corners of the arena. He was up against a C-rank swordsman, so for him it was an easy fight to win especially with all of his training the past two weeks.
Both standing in the ring with their weapons drawn and glaring at each other with intent. The referee seeing that they are both ready ask them for confirmation before they begin.
"Are you both ready"
"" Yes.""
Both of them replied instantly the referee than said "Begin" signaling the start of the match. The swordsman immediately lunged at Mako as fast as he could going in for the attack.
Unfortunately for him Mako was a lot fast and easily countered his attack and than quickly used this opportunity for himself and launched an attack of his own at his side. Striking him the man jumped back clenching his side in pain, glaring daggers at Mako.
Luckily everyone in this selection tournament was only using training weapons since they are so close to the actual tournament which is only a week away so they didn't want any of the m getting to badly injured. That being said getting hit by a training sword still hurt quite a lot as it was able to break a few of his ribs.
Hesitating a bit the man knew that he was weaker in rank but he has been training in the ways of the sword for a while. He could also defeat monster higher rank than him as well with his sword skills. However he severely underestimated Mako's strength and was regretting that now.
Mako seeing the hesitation in his opponent used that to his advantage and charged at him sending forth his attacks on him. Mako's speed improved a lot in his training and his opponent could barely block them all allowing some of them to hit him.
Stopping his attack and colleting himself, he was preparing his final attack. He gathered his mana around his sword creating a bright beautiful and pure gold light. The man sensing that he was done for but didn't want to run away like a coward also started gathering his mana in his sword, it turned a crisp light blue but was not as dense as Mako's mana was showing just how much stronger his opponent was.
Their mana finished gathering at the same time and they both lunched forth with their attacks looking to end it. Mako was faster and was able to easily dodge the attack and struck the man across his chest knocking him out of the ring and knocking him unconscious.
Winning the match and moving on.
After he walked back to his seat next to Ryuji to relax and restore the mana he lost.
Like that another few hours past until it was Ryuji's turn. He was called up and he is fighting in ring 1 in the center of the arena for everyone to see. His opponent is a C-rank Tank a horrible match up for him as he is now.
