"Your boyfriend is waiting outside for you."
My fast turn nearly caused me a whiplash.
"Wha...Hm, What?"
"Your boyfriend. Matthew. He seems nice."
"You-you talked to him?"
He nonchalantly sat on his chair.
"Yup. Cool guy. Way out of your league."
Even though I was still beyond shocked, I couldn't help but frown. Out of my league? I don't care if it's true, he doesn't have the right to say that.
"Asshole," I muttered to myself.
"So you're gay huh?"
I was a little taken back by his bluntness.
"Bisexual, actually."
His green eyes widened: "O cool. I wouldn't have guessed. How long have you guys been together?"
I just stared at him with my mouth hanging slightly open: "Um...It will be a year in a week."
"Good for you. Now you have to get up and go to him because he has probably been waiting for you for a while now."
He stood up to leave when I stopped him.
"Aren't you surprised?"
"Yeah, I was. The first minute and then got over it."
"But like, aren't you um...don't you..."
He sighed: "Look, I don't give a shit who you sleep with. That's your business. If you think that I will see you differently because of it, you are wrong. I still don't like you."
I weirdly appreciated his words. I really did. My gaze dropped to the ground.
"Please don't tell anyone."
I looked up to see his face. The expression was almost one of hurt.
"Do you really think I'm such a dick, that I would out someone?"
I shrugged. His green eyes looked strangely foggy.
"Is that way you never told me? You thought I was going to judge you?"
"Well, can you blame me? You judge everything else I do."
And also because we are not really close and I don't trust you. I left out that part.
"The fact that you are doing him has nothing to do with you being an idiot. But I would never use your sexuality against you."
His hand brushed through his brown waves.
"Um, my-my best friend, when she came out, she went through so much shit, that I just...Ah, I just never want to see anyone else putting up with crap like she did. So no, I won't tell anyone. Also if you don't hurry up, you'll probably become single," he answered a question I never uttered.
While listening I forgot about Matt. I almost tripped while running through the door. I could hear Lukas behind me commenting: "You walking nightmare. He could do so much better."
If I hadn't been in a rush I would correct him. At that moment I was a running nightmare. God. Sometimes I cringe at myself.
I saw Matt standing on the side of the building, leaning against the wall. A smile reached my ears. Maybe I was a little euphoric, because of what Lukas said. He bent in to kiss me, but I gave him one of those no-homo bro hugs. He looked at me confused.
"I'll explain later."
He forced a smile and we went to get lunch.
X
"So now that we are alone, can you tell me, why did you friend zone me earlier?"
We just ordered and I knew the question time was coming.
"People I work with don't know I'm bi and I don't want them to."
I gulped.
"Why?"
I knew that look. It was his ˝I'm gay and proud˝ look.
"No, I'm not ashamed, so save the theatrics. I just know they will treat me differently."
"You can't know that."
"I can and I do."
"You can't."
"I'm a psychologist, so I can and I win this argument."
He chuckled and shook his head: "That's not a valid reason."
"Matthew! Coming out is my choice. It doesn't affect you."
"It doesn't affect me? I can't come to pick you up for lunch without you being all nervous that someone will see us."
I rolled my eyes: "Ok, First, you literally only came to my workplace once and you are acting like this has been happening a whole lifetime. Second...Like you want to meet any of my coworkers."
"What if I do?"
"You already met one. I thought that would be enough."
"You mean Lukas?"
I nodded.
"He seemed ok. Nicer than you describe him."
I narrowed my eyes: "That's what he wants you to think."
"Maybe you're just being harsh. He doesn't seem that bad and he is also insanely hot."
I hope I didn't hear right. No, I pray, I didn't hear right. But judging from his expression, I did.
I could feel my face turning disgusted: "What?"
"It's just an observation."
"No. Observation would be that he has brown hair and gray suit. That he is h...ho...What you said, is a very subjective evaluation."
I know it sounded like I was jealous. I wasn't. Just annoyed.
He was watching me with a warm smile.
"What?"
"You're so cute."
"So I'm cute and he is insanely hot? Wait, no, don't change the subject! You really think he is hot?"
"Well, he is not bad looking."
"I hate you."
"I know babe."
