Briggan re-read the excerpt: "Ach der geworfene, ach der gewate Ball füllt er die Hande nicht andres mit Wiederkehr: rein um sein Heimgewicht ist er mehr." After flipping through the pages of the thicker tome, he found what he needed in bits. Going to the note pad, he took his pen and wrote out a few lines:
"Oh, the ball that's thrown, the ball that dared,
Does it not fill your hands differently when it returns:
Made weightier, merely by coming home."
Going over the translation, Briggan felt something - strange. He couldn't name it, and it was entirely foreign to anything he's experienced before. He didn't know what to do...
Mastace watched how quickly the wolf's expression changed. It was almost instantaneous. Something didn't feel right. Mastace looked a little more attentively and noticed that his gaze became distant. Mastace started to move toward the wolf, casually at first. Before he knew it, Mastace had began to run. He dropped into a slide, and caught the wolf, who had fainted, in his arms. Gotcha! The scene caused a lot of the other furs around to look at him and the wolf, and it triggered a lot of murmuring amongst them. Mastace ignored them.
Briggan opened his eyes to see the face of a lion looking right at him. " Are you alright?" he asked.
" What the hell just happened?" Briggan began to sit up, but the lion stopped him.
" No, stay down. You could hurt yourself further. You fainted right out of your seat. Lucky I caught you because I really don't think you'd like eating the dirt."
" No kidding, thanks." Briggan offered weakly. The lion just smiled, the said, "No problem."
" Hey, I have a question."
" Yeah?"
" Could you let me lay flat on the ground instead of in your lap?"
Only now did Mastace realize the situation. " Oh! Yeah, sure," he said, then obliged. "Sorry."
" What is your name?" Briggan asked.
" Mastace, and yours?" Mastace asked.
" Briggan,"
" Pleased to meet you."
" Please, the pleasure is mine," Briggan replied half-heartedly. Briggan shakily stood on his feet and sat back down at his seat. He quickly put his stuff away before the bell rang, and it was time for their first classes.
What a great guy, Mastace thought to himself, his head full of sarcasm. Wonder what happened to him?
