Chapter 17 - Ch 17 : The Hunt

Amidst the buches of the outskirts of darkwoods, a frenzy boar stood munching at grass in peace knowing most predators in the surrounding forest wouldn't take the risk of attacking it.

It stood at 16 feet in height and weighed 400 pounds, it was extremely agile and was able to flip a noble sized carriage by a single full force ram.

It wasn't really a vicious beast, it had no essence flowing in its bones, but it's fur was thick and its skin was solid, hard to cut even with steel weaponry.

This skin was very useful at making flexible light armor and went for quite a decent price in the market, yet not many would seek killing this savage animal except if in dire need.

It occupied a very awkward position in the hierarchy of power ,too strong to be handled by mortal hunters, too cheap to be seeked by adventuring guilds and mercenaries.

It was thus quite a common beast in the outskirts of dark woods, slayed by the guards of the surrounding cities every season only to control their numbers from going overboard.

Yet This particular frenzy boar seems to have run out of luck, since it has fallen to Aric's rader.

Aric, who was hiding amidst the tall grass and bushes, was staring at the boar and making his final calculations on the confrontation that will soon occur.

Although he've never hunted a frenzy boar before, he had hunted hundreds of regular boars throughout his life, this one right here was just twice as large and fast, but the same concept still applies.

At first he wanted to sneak attack it but that proved impossible not long after, these beasts seem to be gifted with great senses and instincts, they're very hard to trap and fool, and whenever he approaches a bit too much, the boar would pick on the aura and would be on guard.

With such a creature , Aric had no choice but to go with a frontal confrontation.

He picked a handful size rock from the ground and took a deep breath and with all his power, he shot the rock straight at the boar's face.

The rock slammed and it stunned the boar for a second before he hunked and turned to find the source from where the rock was thrown.

In that second of daze, Aric had shot all the way from where he was hiding among the bushes and jumped towards the boar with the wood axe in hand , throwing a downward slash at the beast's neck.

The boar saw Aric's silhouette, and in the last second , it managed to dashed forward, dodging the hit by a hair's breadth.

" Damn it ! '' Aric didn't have the agility to keep up with the frenzy board, he knew if he missed this sneak attack, he'd be put into a passive position in the following confrontation.

After hunting three wild dogs with ease, Aric might've gotten a bit cocky, he didn't know if he had the power to defeat the frenzy boar in a fair fight, but now that things had transpired to this, he had to either fights or makes a run for it.

Aric then braced himself with both hands on the axe facing the boar, he was instinctively using staff tactics while handling the axe.

The boar oinked at Aric, and although it appeared comical as it pawed the floor with its hooves , Aric knew better than to underestimate this beast standing before him.

The boar shot forward with a headbutt, towards Aric's torso, with the speed it was moving at, Aric knew he had no chance to dodge to the side, and brassed himself to receive the strike.

The beast slammed with a devastating momentum into Aric's wood axe , it sent him rolling in the dirt, and Aric almost ended up staying in the ground, yet with a swift move from his hand , he flipped over and got back on his feet.

" Holy crap! that was strong ." Aric kept his eyes on the boar at all times and against all odds smiled smugly at it " but not as bad as I thought. "

The boar oinked again, this time mad that it's opponent had got off the ground and didn't stay down after the first hit .

It had never met through its life a paladin, and normal mortals are usually dealt with through single attack, some faking death, and others actually dead.

But it had never met a human that got off the ground after the first ram, this made it especially mad, and it went for a second hit, with all the strength it could muster it run towards Aric for a headbutt once again.

Aric didn't dodge to the side or brasse for the hit this time, instead he raised the rusty axe in his hands all the way over his head, and brought it down towards the beast's approaching skull at breathtaking speed.

The two met and Aric felt his very core shake for a second, before the axe overcame the resistance of the boar's skull, and cleaved through it and cut it in half.

With its head split apart, the boar lost all the strength in its legs, and with the remaining momentum it slammed Into Aric's torso and shot him stumbling back.

Aric spat a mouthful of blood and was sent rolling in the dirt.

Covered in blood and brain juices of the boar, Aric couldn't help but smile, and touched the plum body of the boar lying beside him .

" In your face... literally! " Aric chuckled a bit then got up and started skinning the boar right away, he had spent a while hunting for the three dogs and this boar, and the sun was actually setting in the horizon, and was pulsing with a lovely orange hue that only appears in the months of rain.
