Chapter 8 - Ethereal

'Now, all that's left is to try them out' the dragon thought to himself.

His wisdom had only given him a basic idea about how he could increase and decrease his senses - normal and abstract - manually.

He actually didn't even know how it would feel.

So, he had to try them out because he needed get experienced in using them. As, it was going to be very helpful in the future.

He wasn't arrogant enough to believe that he would master changing his senses in an instant - as he knew very well that change takes a long time (even if he had an overpowered body).

Mastering all of those forms would actually be the best way he could increase his power once he maxes out his skills - after all, leveling up takes a long time.

He knew very well just how important reflexes, instincts, and intuition were. He did know a lot about sword fighting, after all.

Even if your opponent was faster or stronger and was as skilled - or even more skilled - in swordsmanship, if you have better prediction abilities, you would win.

He even knew some humans who had successfully dodged a bullet because they knew where the bullet was going to get fired and where it would land.

Though, that only happened because the one who had the gun was an amateur, and that they were killed in the next 10 or so bullets.

The dragon wanted to try spatial sense first. After all, it was probably going to be the harder one.

Spatial sense, unlike ultra instinct, required him to disable all his senses; while in ultra instinct he just needed to decrease most of his senses and only disable some of them - because unless he had instincts of a fucking god he won't be able fight if he can't see or sense shit.

'It's going to be weird.' the dragon to thought to himself as he gulped.

He knew just how trippy it had felt when he had increased all his senses. The world slowing down, seeing this bigger and clearer, etc.

Disabling all his senses would be very weird, as it wasn't something that he would even think about until now. But even more than that, he was still clueless about how spatial awareness would feel.

After all, he didn't even know how it worked as a normal sense. He always thought that spatial awareness was something that occurred due to the combination of all his senses.

His most overpowered skill, draconic wisdom, didn't even give him any basic idea about how the sense would feel, it only gave out that it would help him "feel" better - which wasn't a lot to go on.

The dragon then slowly started to decrease one of his senses.

The sense he had chosen was his sense of taste. He chose it because he had thought that it would probably the least useful sense and that it would be least weirdest one out of all of them.

It was pretty useless in combat situation, and also sometimes in real life. Plus, he had heard normal people lose their sense of taste due disease and that it wasn't common for people to pay a doctor to help them lose that sense.

The disabling process was slow as the dragon didn't want to rush it and mess up something. He didn't like the idea of messing up even, what is arguably, his most useless sense.

But once the dragon started doing it, he started to feel more comfortable. And due that, the dragon started to speed up a little and little.

The dragon thought that it would be fine and kept going faster and faster and then finally stopped when he had fully disabled his sense of taste.

He had only took about 30 seconds. It was longer than what he had expected and it was also a little depressing.

He needed 30 seconds to disable, what he had thought to be the, most useless sense.

He couldn't even begin imagining just how long it would take him to be able to change his form in a split second like he had imagined.

'It's going to be hard.' the dragon then had new flames of determination build inside of him.

The dragon then checked out how it felt to lose his sense of taste. After all, even when he was disabling it, he only felt some slight fluctuations in his smell.

It wasn't much, but he still lost a little of his smelling ability. It was pretty surprising as he hadn't expected to find that his tongue could also smell.

After all, the dragon had always thought that you could only smell with his nose. The dragon was very surprised, but even more than that, he was happy to make this new discovery.

The dragon then took some dirt and... ate it.

He couldn't taste anything, it was something he had expected. But still, it was a weird feeling. He knew how the dirt tasted, but he couldn't taste it.

'This is going to my weird memory list.'

The dragon then started to think about the next sense which he was going to disable. He didn't think too much about it.

He chose smell. As, even with his below average knowledge about his sense, he still understood that disabling his sense of smell would probably be the next easiest on the list.

Since unlike his touch - he didn't know shit about it, sight, and hearing. His smell only functioned to help him smell things.

'Here it goes!' the dragon started to decrease his sense of smell, and he did it pretty quickly.

He was a lot more confident about in himself and his ability to decrease his sense.

And just within 10 seconds, he had completely disabled his sense of smell.

The dragon found out that disabling his sense had a more profound effect on him, compared to his taste. It was expected for the dragon.

But the thing that was the weirdest for him was the effect of losing his sense of smell. It was something that the dragon hadn't expected.

When the dragon looked at world around him, he felt like it had lost some of it "personality" and had gotten "blander". It wasn't something he could put into words, it was a completely new experience for him.

"This is surprising." the dragon said to himself.

It was truly surprising just how important his senses were to him. It also showed how the world had more things to it than just it scenic beauties.

And he also knew why people would want to see a location by themselves, and not just experience it through VR.

Now all that was left for the dragon was his sense of hearing, sight, and touch.

The dragon was actually a little worried about those senses – especially his sight and touch.

He didn't know why, but his intuition told him that disabling those last two senses should be his last priority.

And the dragon fully agreed to it. Without his sight he won't be able to do shit; but, he still didn't know anything about touch - but he knew that it should do something as it disabled his sense of pain.

'Hearing it is.' the dragon then started to decrease his hearing. It was the slowest he had ever gone, after all, he was a little scared to lose his hearing.

But the dragon pulled through and slowly and steadily managed to lower his hearing to 40% of the original.

After reaching that point, the dragon just yoloed it and just completely disabled it.

The dragon had to wait for a second to finally process what had happened.

"I did it." the dragon breathed a sigh of relief.

The dragon was actually in peace, it was if everything had became calm. But he knew that wasn't the case.

After all, he couldn't hear himself.

'I see why deaf people can't speak.' the dragon thought to itself.

The dragon always wondered about why deaf people couldn't speak, but he couldn't do anything to get anything about it, after all, it was a dumb question and he didn't want to be embarrassed.

But know he knew, after all, he was deaf right now. He couldn't hear anything.

But he could still feel. He could feel the vibrations produced when he spoke.

To test it out, the dragon then started humming some random notes.

And just like he had expected he couldn't hear anything, but he could still feel vibrations.

It was a surreal experience and something that he hadn't imagined that he would be able to feel.

The dragon then chose touch as his next sense to disable.

He was more scared about this sense than with his hearing, after all, without it, the world might be totally empty.

He had made a hypothesis that disabling his touch would literally disable his sense to feel things with his body.

And if that was the case then the world would truly be empty for him; he could still feel the wind blowing around him - it was the last piece of thing that still gave the world some "personality".

It would also make for another surreal experience – and one that would trump the previous one, and probably the next one as well.

After all, he had heard about deaf people, blind people, and people who couldn't smell nor taste; but he hadn't heard of people who couldn't sense anything.

The dragon gulped like a dragon would and started to mentally prepare himself. If the dragon was being honest to itself, it didn't want to do this at all. He was starting to get a little scared.

But the dragon had to do it, otherwise, there might a time where some invisible bastard would just kill him. He was a motherfucking dragon, after all.

And there was no way in hell someone wasn't going to hunt him down, especially humans.

He knew that he was a valuable creature, he was able to kill strong monster – even bosses who were higher leveled than him.

So, even without his wisdom telling him, he was able to deduce that he was special. He did have sacred and divine skills and also had the legendary rank. He was also a world boss monster.

If that didn't spell amazing, he didn't know what did.

The dragon then quickly stopped himself from thinking more depressing thoughts. He didn't want to admit that he was going to be a gold mine for the person that would kill him.

He then prayed to any greater powers that was watching over him (A/N: *wink* *wink*) to make sure that there won't be any people coming after him.

He would still prepare for people that would want to hunt him down, but still, he would be scared shitless if someone was coming to hunt him – especially if that someone was a being which he couldn't beat (like a divine monster/beast, or Level 10+ beings).

After thinking depressing thoughts, the dragon again had to mentally prepare himself. He didn't mind being more prepared, as he knew that this one was going to be a little scary.

The dragon then took a deep breath; he then started to decrease his sense of touch.

The dragon was doing it slowly and was slowly increasing it the rate it was decreasing. The reason for that was pretty simple, the dragon was getting more comfortable with it.

And after about 2 minutes, the dragon finally completely disabled his sense of touch.

Though, disabling his sense of touch made him realize something.

He was wrong about it, it wasn't as strong as he thought it would be.

No, it was way fucking stronger than what he had expected it to be.

He was certain that - except his sight - disabling his sense of touch would actually affect all his senses. It was just that fucking strong.

The dragon felt that the world now was same like a picture, it was still beautiful, but it had lost all its "personality" and the atmosphere that had made it shine in his eyes.

He couldn't feel anything, he couldn't feel his arms, his wings, his tails, nothing. His mouth felt truly empty, the slight vibration in his ears were now non-existent. Everything was... still.

The dragon started to get even more terrified of it, he wanted to get his sense of touch back. He wanted it back.

'I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it.' the dragon could only think of it.

But, thankfully, the dragon finally managed to calm himself in the next moment - as he didn't want to get the mental resistance skill.

He was really thankful for his perfectionist self, as he would have probably been thinking that same thing over and over again. He probably would still be fine, but giving up now as a really bad idea.

Though his wisdom hadn't told him anything about cancelling the block when he hadn't even finished it. His intuition was screaming like crazy. And he knew that in that state he would probably not listen to his intuition.

Just the thought of not listening to his intuition shivered him. Even though he really didn't want to think about the previous incident, he still couldn't stop himself.

After all, the fear he had experienced wasn't normal, it was something primal. It was his entire body acting against him.

He now knew that Spatial Sense was probably going to be his least used form. It was too hard to do so, and also because he won't ever use it unless he has to.

It was too much for him right now, and he would only try it more after he gained the skill, mental resistance. Though, that would be in the future, as he was aiming for mental acceleration.

Though, he was very happy that he disabled his touch before he disabled his sight.

He knew that because of how he felt when he disabled his touch just now. It was like he was disappearing. And if he was blind, the entire world would be black.

Feeling his body "disappearing" would probably terrify even more; if he had to explain how the feeling would be like, he would probably say that it would feel like being dragged to the bottom of the ocean where there was no light and no hope for him to get out.

Just thinking about it gave him shivers. After all, his brain didn't know how, no, want to process that.

But he quickly made ignored it, after all, feeling mental stress was the best way for him to get mental resistance - a skill which he didn't want, yet.

The dragon then started thinking about positive thoughts, he wanted to try his best to distract himself from the feeling of existential dread.

Because of that, he finally stopped the crisis he was having.

'I never expected to have an existential crises like this...' the dragon disappointingly thought to itself, though to his credit, that was like death.

'Well, thinking about death. I actually didn't feel anything about it.' the dragon was a little weirded out by that fact, but he didn't dwell on it for too long.

The dragon then started to getting prepared to disable his eyesight. Even though being blind was a terrifying thought, for him, it wasn't; after all, he had just gone through an existential crisis.

Then suddenly, his wisdom made him aware of another fact. Due to it, the dragon's eye widened and started to shine.

After all, what he had just heard would make the entire process easier and would make the chance of him getting that skill almost 0%.

The dragon could start to increase his spatial awareness after he starts to disable his eyesight. It was something that the dragon was a little worried about.

Due to his intuition screaming at him to not increase his spatial awareness, he hadn't done it.

But after the divine message bestowed upon him by his great wisdom, it had stopped screaming. After all, the ordered went like this: draconic wisdom>>>intuition>>instincts>his brain.

With that knowledge, the dragon smiled as he closed his eyes.

With that done, he started to feel the dread creeping on him again - it was very scary due to the darkness. But, he still continued.

He then started to decrease his vision and increase his spatial awareness.

But, due to the activation of spatial awareness wasn't instant, the decrease in his eyesight scared the shit out of him.

It was as if body was inside a dark void where there was no escape. He was just there, standing around doing nothing as he could only do nothing. He had felt that if he had stayed there any longer he would start to feel the thread of his reason snap.

It was a scary and surreal feeling, and something which he didn't like one bit. Thankfully, he didn't get an existential crisis this time.

Though, once he started putting "points" into spatial awareness, it quickly went away. But, instead of just going away, it made him feel a surreal feeling that had trumped everything until now.

He couldn't even begin explaining it. If he had to say, it was akin to being able to not "feel" and "feel" at the same time. It was as if he was fused with the world itself.

In the 1m range he had at the time, he could "touch", "hear", "see", "smell", and "taste" everything in it.

If he had to explain the sensation in a single word, he would say it was an 'Ethereal Feeling'.

And because of that, he could was able to max his spatial awareness and fully disable his sight in just about 10 seconds.

Making his reach one of his forms, Spatial Sense.

With this, he could again say for fact that this sensation was 'Ethereal'.

He had a range of about 130m. And he could "feel" everything in that radius. Be it above him, around him, or below him.

He had dubbed the range in which he could everything, field. As, it kind of was a field.

Inside the field, he felt as if he was fused with everything. It was even more amazing that when the field was just 1 m in radius.

Within it, he felt things that he wasn't supposed to feel. He felt the tiny movement of the planet, the insects, the creatures, plants, and monsters etc. It was an amazing feeling.

Because of that, he knew that there wasn't anything notable inside the field. And even the nearest monster was 100 meters away.

The dragon then disabled Spatial Sense - which he had rename to Ethereal Vision because it sounded more accurate and cooler.

He then activated Super Sense State - which only took 10 seconds. And started searching for monsters - he didn't use Ultra Instinct since he was very overwhelmed by Ethereal Vision.

He wanted to get a mental enhancement skill, so, he started to change the efficacy of senses continuously.

As it would be mentally tasking and would also help to lessen the fear. He still was very scared about losing all his senses. Plus, it would give him some training for activating Ultra Instinct.
