Chapter 3
The night gets deeper and deeper. Every second that passes our surroundings gets darker and darker. We only depend on the moon and stars above for lighting. We hid in the bushes behind a huge tree. We purposely hid in a dark area so that the masked man wouldn't see us.
My entire body is shaking due to the coldness. The river's waters were icy, we should be creating a fire to produce heat. But we are afraid that the man would see where we are and kill us. Reyn was beside me, Ethan went searched for another way inside the mansion to save Julie.
"Thanks for the steak by the way." I said, making us both laugh. Funny how things escalated quickly. We were just delighted about getting a vacation just moments ago. And now, we are hiding from a killer.
We both stiffened when we heard dried leaves being crushed, indicating that someone is heading our way. I grabbed the dried stem of the tree beside me, Reyn did it too. I hold onto the stick with both arms. The sound went louder making us nervous. I could even my heartbeat racing.
I swayed the stick as soon as I saw the silhouette of a man. But before I could hit him he held it with his right arm and threw it away. It was dark, but I could saw he hugged me. He caressed my back.
"It's fine." Ethan said to make me calm. "It's me."
"Sorry. I thought you're the masked man." I apologized for trying to attack him awhile ago.
"Reyn, do you know another way inside the mansion?" He asked. "I searched for another way in but I only saw the balcony."
"There's no way we could climb that high." I said stating the obvious.
"We could use the back gate but surely he'll guard that one!" a deafening silence came as we think of ways to get inside.
As their conversation rolls an idea popped in my head. I scanned my and searched for something I know for sure that will save our situation. I saw the marking I put ten years ago and immediately trailed it.
"Dahlia what are you doing? Reyn exclaimed.
"Where's the tunnel we used to play in?"
"In the river. They renovated the mansion. Why?"
I just shot a glance at him went to the riverside. they both followed me to where I was going.
"That river is too deep Dahlia! Reyn said.
"You can't swim either." Ethan added.
"Iknow but I have to!"
They both disagreed with my plan but a gunshot was heard. Without their notice, I jumped in the river. I heard Ethan grunting but Julie is more important now.
I opened my eyes. Darkness covered the area. I swim deeper and deeper in the black deeper. I could even feel some slimy plants tickling my legs. I went deeper and saw the door. The last time I remember it's supposed to be shiny but I could see it rusted due to being submerged in water for a long time.
I held it's the cold and ancient knob. I pulled it but it won't budge. Air is lacking my system. With my whole strength, I pulled it. Still, it was useless. Water accidentally entered my mouth. I choked.
Sorry I failed you, Julie! my hand let go of the knob but my brain wishes not to. But still, weakness is killing me.
A hand pulled me out of the knob. I was weak but I managed to see how Ethan tried to save me. I saw how Reyn opened the door just before my eyes shut.
