Friday 22nd April, Colette's Place, 09:46 a.m.
"Donnel, Donnel! Wake up, we gotta go get your suit," yelled Collette, excitedly shaking his body by the shoulders.
"Relax baby, i'm up," asserted Donnel as his blurry sight picked up her excited body language; surprising him, before he squinted his eyes to the bright sunlight that had now invaded Collette's pink room.
Several previous nights' moments turning into thoughts as he rose out of her bed, when tears would gather in her eyes and pour onto his chest, fertilizing his sympathy, as they laid in bed to the sound of late night's birds and crickets which liked playing on the moon. Yet now she had seemingly moved on from such sorrows and was pretty much excited for the matric ball, 24 hours away. Unless it was just. A facade that would come to pass as soon soon as the darkness of the nights squirts our of its hiding spot.
"Baby please go shower, my parents are waiting and you know his impatient my mother is." Colette said to him smiling at her phone before playing a familiar pop song.
"Okay Collie, but if that phone brings you any troubling messages or phone calls just toss it away of something," responded he inaudibly
That's when he overlooked her facial expressed, swept away her hair from her cheek before kissing; and jogged out her room as he brought his phone to his ear, Colette's giggles barging into his other ear.

"No Lethabo I've made up my mind, and I'm not going! How am I supposed to enjoy the night if my brother and his wifey are there, let's just go out, go ice skating or something, or even your favorite club." Katlego tried to sound convincing.
"No you have to, you promised you would, the night means so much to me." yelled Lethabo assertively, even throwing her phone onto his bed.
He could clearly see how red her eyes were, tissues in her hand as she pulled her nose and dabbed beneath her eyes again; now holding back her tears of fury as that anger shifted to her voice instead.
Katlego then heard his phone's vibrations before ignoring Donnel's phone call, assuming his sisters were behind it in an attempt to change his mind.
"Babes, we have to go, at least do it for me."
"I've already made up my mind Lethabo."
"Then change it then,"said she as her sombre mood overtook her beauty. We've spoken about this ever since the tenth grade and you know it. You promised your that we would go together, the last promised you made her before that fatal car crash of hers.
"Don't you dare try to emotionally blackmail me, and please leave my late mother out of this," he muttered. Guilt weighing down his chest. I'm not going and that's final. Period!
"All because of Zintle!" shouted Lethabo as Katlego walked out of the bedroom. "I see why she chose Karabo over you, you're clearly pathetic." You can't even honor a promise which you made to your mother.
"Mxm!", expressed Katlego. You're such a sociopath, and FYI my mother would have supported !my decision and you know that.
"I will surely get you, mark my words,"yelled Lethabo as the anger that had built within, poured from her heart, alongside her words.
"No need for threats Lettie babes... I still love you," awkwardly shouted Katlego, from the lounge, as he dived onto the couch.
"It's not a threat baby boy, it's a promise... And unlike you i don't break mine; said she, smiling deviously.
Katlego felt bad, for Lethabo's morose mood had contagiously caught onto him, as his gaze fell onto his phone, Zintle's apologetic messages still coming in. Apologies with no remorse, or any sense of redemption nor an attempt to rectify the situation peacefully.
His anger swelled and consumed him and his forehead was soon in his hand, as he listened to the rhythm of Lethabo's high heels just before she slamed the door. He stood and dawdled torwards the door, only to see her get into a white Polo Vivo upon opening it. Which left him puzzled as it dissapeared into the sunset
Now he was all alone as Caroline, Karabo and Zintle still weren't back from the last-minute matric ball shopping spree. So he just sat on the door and lifted his gaze towards the orangish clouds, perhaps in search of hope. The overwhelming sense of failure had fallen upon him and even the briskly roaring wind couldn't blow it away, as the emotions within his chest quickly evolved from a pride of anger to dissapointment.
The early evening wind drying out the tears that had now formed a river beneath his eyes, before his gaze changed focus and soon caught sight of the suspicious young man at the gate, with a white bag in his hand as he constantly looked sideways, as though on "high" alert, just before he threw his joint on the ground and squashed it.
Within a heartbeat, Katlego was already walking down to the gate, the rage in his heart suppressed by his sudden excitement, for his solution had arrived. A solution that would make him feel like a James Bond or a Jason Bourne. His smile stretching from one ear to the other as he reached the gate that Lethabo had left open.
"Good day my man, you've got the blue jacket and that... You're Katlego right?"
"One and only bruh, you got the package?"
"Salute, perfectly suited for your requirements. Got my blue leaves, my Madiba's?"
That's when Katlego felt excitement spreading through him as he fumbled into his pocket for the cash, his eyes becoming wild with a desperate fear as he recieved his deadly toy; wondering what hiz late mother and father would have said upon seeing him with that false sense of power in his hands...
