Chapter 7 :
Avery and her team had just completed their mission about a minute ago and somehow decided to take Eli's direction -he was the prankster in their group and was now stranded in the middle of the forest.
The sun went two hours ago, forcing them with no other choice but to build a campfire, using the moon as their light source; each member was assigned with a task.
They were put into groups of four, with each group containing roughly about three members, while Avery was assigned the task of guarding their belongings.
Avery watched as her teammates went their separate way to find the resources that they needed to build the campfire, leaning her back against the trunk of the tree;.
She swung her right leg to and fro, completing an oscillation every time she did.
She began to sing under her breath that not even the moths could hear her. Avery had stopped singing when she heard a loud wail that sounded similar to that of a baby's.
Muttering some colorful words, Avery used her foot that was resting idly on the side of the trunk, to push herself from herself up from the tree; she gathered the supplies that she thought she was going to use and waited until she heard the next wave of the baby's cries.
Exactly a minute later the sound of the baby's cries came, but this time it was louder; turning towards the direction of the sound, she ran.
The branches were blocking her path and giving her a lot of bruises, her panting filled the air as she leaned on a log, she was currently sitting on the wet soil cradling her bruised limbs she had earned.
Avery had been running without looking where she was going and tripped over a log- the same log she was currently leaning her back on.
The baby's cries were still ringing throughout the entire forest, grimacing as she got up, Avery slowly walked towards the sound, the sky had darkened significantly, and she knew the other were probably back at the camp searching both high and low for her.
The more Avery walked the louder the cries got, finally Avery got to where the cries were and slowly took in her surroundings she was in a cave-like area, you know the ones you would see in 'Wu Assassins', and the first thought that came to her mind was to snap a picture with the cave-like surroundings and comment that she was on the set.
She suddenly remembered what brought her, what caused her to walk upon this beautiful scenery in the first place when she heard a whimpering sound from the bushes.
Perched on top of a low laying branch was the baby whose cries sound that of a banshee, the baby was carefully wrapped in a thin pink shawl and seemed to be exhausted from all the crying because it was yawning.
Avery stood there in silence, stunned eyes wide and mouth wide open as the baby opened its eyes. It was the most beautify eyes she had ever seen; it was a mixture of gray and ocean blue and had thick, long dark lashes that framed it.
Moving her hand that was free of injury, Avery moved the baby from the tree and held the baby into her hands and stared down at the little bundle in her arm, she felt so attached to the little one as if it was her own child, her first child, and she decided that she was going to call this child, Celeste.
The stranger watched from afar as Avery held the baby into her arm; he was rather surprised when she came there instead of her teammate, Marissa.
The stranger did not mind this at all when Avery had suggested that they must place themselves in groups of three.
He thought this was the perfect opportunity to execute the mission that their boss; The Falcon had tasked him with.
The Falcon wanted to see if Marissa -his current spoiled girlfriend, would take care of the abandoned child when assigned a mission.
The stranger noticed that Marissa did not even bat an eyelash when the baby started to cry; he had to come up with a quick but convincing excuse so that he could inform their boss of her reaction.
His boss was a bit disappointed and told the stranger that he should give him an update when someone decided to look for the baby.
The stranger let out a small laugh when he imagined his boss's reaction and how everyone back at the organization would react, when they find out that, The Falcon's ex-girlfriend was the one who decided to check out if it was a real baby crying or not, and not his current girlfriend Marissa.
The baby, Avery, had been taken from the orphanage as a gift for Marissa because she had been giving a lot of complaints to his boss about not wanting to lose her figure just for the mere sake of a baby.
Resting his side on the tree, he crossed his hands and smirked and decided to watch and wait to see how this unfolds.
His mind went drifting back to the one person who clouded his thoughts, his boss's sister, Casey; she clouded his visions since that night she left him stranded in the middle of the park and how shocked he was when she left him there.
He did not know what to say when his boss asked him for an update of Casey's status; he wanted to say that she was hurt, and she'd been crying, but he had a feeling that when asked she would try to convert the question in some way that you would remember what you'd ask.
He decided that he would report to his boss that her status was unknown and hope that his boss did not take notice to his stranger behavior, because he had always been the type of person to give a report that had everything -the person he was doing a status report on, did from the moment they woke up, to the very moment they went to sleep.
