Chapter 38 - The Change

Chapter 38 :

"Please welcome Miss Victoria Jamespell and Mr. Andrew Jamespell," announced the MC as they entered the ballroom.

Tonight was the night where all the elites of the world gather to award the best of the best.

Everyone knew this event as the Yahontov ball. This event only came every four years and only acknowledge the best of the best.

Currently, this was Victoria's second time at the event and Andrew's first time.

She knew that Andrew deserved to be here because he made so many sacrifices to be where he is today.

And for Victoria, she still has yet to figure out how she received an invitation and that too yesterday.

"Victoria!," called out a very familiar voice from the crowd. She quickly turned around as saw Mrs. Briggs walking towards her direction.

'Mrs. Briggs? what is she doing here?' Victoria thought as she asked herself while giving her a plastic smile.

"Miss Briggs, what are you doing here?" she asked in a polite tone while tilting her head to the side, which caused a strand of her hair to move along with it.

"Ahh dearie, I got married to the person keeping this event," she said while clapping her hands in delight.

'What?.... no way,' she thought as gave the lady in front of her a shocked stare.

"H-How?... I spoke to you a month ago, and you said that you were still working at the hospital," declared Victoria while giving her a small confused smile.

Mrs. Briggs placed her aged hands on Victoria's arm before giving it a light squeeze and breathed, "I may be married to a billionaire, but that will not stop me from living my dream."

"I wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a little girl, but my family was not financially stable, so I had to clear the thought of going to med school at a tender age," she continued while shaking her head slightly.

"Dearie promises me that no matter what happens, you won't throw away your happiness," she said in a somewhat frantic tone.

Victoria stood there watching Mrs. Briggs as she waited for an answer. She was so confused as to why she was saying this to her.

"Promise me," Ms. Briggs hissed as she gripped Victoria's arm tightly, causing her to let out a loud gasp.

"I promise," whimpered Victoria as she tried to smile at the couple walking by.

Releasing a sigh, Mrs. Briggs slowly releases her grip off Victoria's arm.

"Aren't you going to introduce that dashing young man behind of you?" she asked in a teasing tone as she darts her eyes towards Andrew.

"Y-Yeah… Um .... that's my cousin Andrew," she said, a bit flustered as she gestured towards him.

"Ah Tori, I don't think that's a proper way to introduce a gentleman like me," Andrew said as he pointed towards himself before turning towards Mrs. Briggs.

"Madame Briggs, it a pleasure to meet you," he said as he took her hands and brought them towards his mouth, placing a kiss on them.

Victoria watched in amusement as Andrew when down on his knees and said, "I'm Sir Andrew Jamespell from the house of Jamespell," he said in a British accent causing Mrs. Briggs to giggle.

"Um, I'm sorry to interrupt you guys... But I think it's time for us to gather in the hall," announced Victoria while crossing her arms.

'Why is everyone looking at me,' she thought as she anxiously waited for them to finish whatever the hell they were doing?

"Come on children, I'll show you the way," said Mrs. Briggs as she wrapped her nude-colored shawl around her as she and Andrew both walked ahead of Victoria.

"Honorary guests, welcome to the 64th annual Yahontov ball," announced an elderly man with his hands wrapped around a model.

"As most of you may know, they derived the name Yahontov from the word Yahont which used to be an old name given to two precious stones — ruby and sapphire. This means that everyone attending this ball carved their way through the most precious stones and metals to be where you're at right now, an elite," continued the old man as he walked down the podium.

And looked into the eyes of every single person in the room and chuckled, "Guys, I hope you're ready for a drama-filled weekend because as always our best isn't good enough."

Two hours passed by in a flash and Victoria was dying to go to her room. "My, my, my..... Victoria Jamespell, is that you?" said a nasal voice.

"Go away and let me be, please," she groaned while closing her eyes. She wanted to just simply fall asleep right there on the floor, but she had an image to maintain.

A few minutes later she heard the sound of someone chewing beside her ears. "You know that if it was any other person you'd be canceled already," said the voice as it continued to eat.

'What is this person talking about?' she thought as she tried to zone out the sounds of their chewing.

"The name is Grahan Boswick, you're gonna have to remember my name the next to we meet," she heard him say before the sound of fading footsteps.

Victoria opened her eyes and looked around her quizzically and saw that a majority of the guests were looking at her with a judging look.

'This is definitely starting to feel weird now,' she thought as she tried her best to ignore the stares.

She became startled when a hand came out of nowhere wrapping itself around her shoulder.

"What the-" she started as she turned towards the owner of the arm, but stopped and rolled her eyes when she realized that the arm belonged to Andrew.

"You're an asshole, you know that," she voiced as she punched his arm.

"Yeah... you've said that like a billion times," he sighed as he tightened his arm around her.

"And I'll say it again," she said before sighing, "I'm tired."

"Then sleep," Andrew said bluntly, and watched as Victoria pouted.
